Lord of the Rings: Gollum delayed to 2022

KyoZz

Tag, you're it.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been pushed to 2022, according to a PR email sent out today, January 26.

The email, from Dead Good PR, announces a "fellowship" between The Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer Daedalic Entertainment and NACON, which has officially been announced as a co-publisher.
NACON has published a bunch of sports titles like Rugby 20, WRC 9, and Tennis World Tour 2, as well as Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood and the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong.
Buried within that fellowship announcement is the sentence "Developed for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC, the game will be released in 2022".

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was announced in March 2019 and was set to release sometime this year on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5. It seems that the release date has quietly been pushed back to sometime in late 2021 but it's unclear why.
We do know that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will use ray-tracing and more new features on PS5, including the DualSense controller's haptic feedback ability to denote when Gollum's stamina is low. Perhaps the team at Daedalic needs more time to make sure the game shines on the latest consoles, hence the delay.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Entire Lord of the Rings Universe to make a game about and you choose Gollum? What a absolute waste.
Agreed - literally the least interesting character in the entire book / series I could possibly even think of. Maybe if they made some sort of Hello Neighbor game, where you hide from the Sackville-Bagginses? Nevermind, even that kinda sounds more interesting and fun.

The whole game is probably going to be slithering in shadows trying to make it to the next check point. There's orcs and elves and made up new monsters every 50 ft and you got to forge ahead by throwing a rock to distract them and you scamper by. Next, you hide in a bale of hay in a wagon and get a free ride to the next point etc....

Have we seen gameplay yet? Might be a good move pushing this back. Also is Andy Serkis involved? Listening his Audio book read of the Hobbit ( ready many times prior) and loving his performance.

Man I feel bad for these devs. Must be brutal to work on a game almost no one is interested in.

I see nothing wrong with a game where you play Gollum, don't see the issue. Could be fun, my biggest fear is whoever voices Gollum will do a horrible job. I'm kinda expecting it. Anything after Andy Serkis is basically just pissing against the wind.

So tired of these ambiguous ass 2022 delays. Why not give a window, season, or quarter? If the game was supposed to be out this year then why cant you specify when its coming next year?

They probably can't be more specific since there's, you know.. a worldwide pandemic going on still.

The character model looks so goddamn terrible. They better redo him from the ground up as he seriously looks like a child. don't know who approved this

i dont think the pandemic is a blanket excuse tbh. If the game was supposed to be out this year than it must be somewhat far a long. Dont think its unreasonable to think they could give us a more definitive time frame if the game is pretty far along as it is.

If 5 years a go you had told me "in 2022 there's going to be a next gen LOTR game and you won't give a shit about it" I'd have called you crazy
