PS5 System Update 20.02-02.50.00 Released

Doing some tests now. I can browse extended still and am doing a test copy from internal to external which has started so it looks fine

But everytime I try and start a game tile that is located on it, the splash screen comes up and locks the console. No reaction from pressing PS button on controller or holding power button on the front of the console either
thats not really a test. hook it up to a pc and let it check sector by sector.. it sounds like you have one or 2 bad sectors.
this is also a behaviour when a ps4(s internal disk starts to die

For what it’s worth I’ve updated and tried God of War and Persona 5 Royal from an external SSD and both worked perfectly (as they did before).

I've had ongoing issues with Spotify and trying to use it after coming out of rest mode.

I'll have to see later if this fixes that at all. It always gives me random error messages until I fully restart the console.

I've had my HDD hooked up for about 2 months now and I haven't had any problems with it so I assume that's been fixed already. Only thing that I want right now is for VRR and the disc to stop spinning like crazy every half hour. Makes me feel like some war veteran getting flashbacks to the when I hear my console go that loud.

Hopefully the disc drive will not randomly spin when not playing a game. Shit's annoying as hell.
I don't think it's random. More like at predetermined intervals... prob as a check. I do agree that I would rather not have it all.

Haven't had issues with rest mode since launch except one (and it think it was cause electricity went out). Hopefully that trend continues with this update.

PS4 didn't do it, and it's worthless if I'm not playing the disc game.

As others have said, I really hope they get rid of the disc drive going from 0-100MPH out of nowhere every hour or so.

Every hour, it's basically got me like:

Whats the problem with rest mode? I am using it since day one with no issues.

I’ve had a few games like Immortals Fenyx Rising where resuming from rest mode causes the console to have trouble even turning on and then eventually you get a “checking disk” startup. Supposedly Miles Morales did this too to people. It’s not a constant thing that will happen to everyone but it does end up there randomly.

Never had problems like that with either a launch PS4 or PS4 Pro.

Ah so its related to a game running suspended.
I usually close the game before i put the PS5 into rest mode.

One out of 4 times you put it into rest mode the entire screen just turns green and the unit turns off. You then have to wake it via the physical power button and it greets you with the PS5 was not turned off properly message and it rebuilds the database.

This is a bug that does not effect everyone.

If I reset the console and wipe everything it MAY fix this. But I'd rather not.

Like? I haven't seen anything since the launch period and have a USB drive plugged in continuously. I thought they fixed it all in the first few firmware updates.
If I turn the system on with my external drive plugged in, it will not recognise the disc in the tray.

My firmware issue still isn't fixed.

Whenever I put the PS5 in rest mode while playing Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (PS5 disc version), and then turn on the PS5 again, I get the message that I have to insert the AC;V game disc even though the disc is in the drive. I can't eject the disc either. The only way to fix is to turn the PS5 off and on on. This has been the case from day one. I can't believe this easy to reproduce problem hasn't been fixed yet.
I get the same issue with most disc-based games.

I can't believe all these bugs everyone's reporting. It's making my wait for a ps5 a bit easier. Hope they get things in a better place firmware wise whenever I do finally get one. Seems like my ps4 pro disc drive may spin randomly but only for a few seconds and not often.

Yeah, although I haven't had much trouble with drives.

It would be great to see more than one external drive at a time. I have somewhat of a beefy library, so I have to keep disconnecting one and plug the other to see if I remember xyz game is on this drive or that drive.
I'm worried that when we are finally able to use the expandable SSD drive slot that we will not be able to use that and an external drive plugged in at the same time.

For whatever reason, consoles are struggling with AF. Even games that get patched are using low to medium AF settings.

Shit is infuriating on Sony consoles. Microsoft has had 16 AF systemwide and on all games forced since Xbox 360 for heavens sake.

It's not as bad as it sounds, you are reading a forum that has a concentration of people all exposing issues at the same time. The issues are not really console breaking and don't really hinder the experience overall.

I've had my PS5 since official launch day in November and my PS5 had crashed a few times, had the external hdd issue where it has to rebuild the database a couple times. One disc version PS4 game I could not play without re-installing. I had an issue where my tiles on the screen don't disappear when deleting a digital game until I go to re-download and then cancel and delete that download.

That may all sound bad but that's like less then 10 times that I've had some small issue out of over 100 times I've used the console with no issue.

I hear your statement all the time from people about so glad I waited or sounds like I'm better off without it for now etc.. It was the same with PS4.. I'm guessing you never had one at launch, most people like to make it sound like it's worse than it really is but it's not!

That random issue where sometimes Demons Souls hangs when you launch it......is that a issue for Bluepoint to fix, or is it PS5 firmware related? Havent really heard anything about if its being fixed and its happened to me a few times. Only fix when it happens is to restart the PS5.

Lmao how is it I'm not having these issues with my external? I just have an evo ssd in enclosure.

I have a 2TB Samsung T7... no issues as well.

I had issues in November when the PS5 would crash playing Spiderman MM... nothing since.

When will we get the SSD storage to work update i finally got a digital PS5 order to go through and it will come to me in about 3-4 weeks i have a couple NVME SSD that i would like to used with this.

Yeah, that would be a bit strange. Because the M.2 Drive has to be screwed in. It would be silly to unscrew it and place back just to read (def not).

So I'd imagine worst case the M.2 SSD would just come up as an "Internal Drive" and you can use the external USB drives as they are. Could all be coupled in an update.

Yeah that would be how it should be but who knows lol

I get the same issue with most disc-based games.

That's interesting! I've also noticed that the eject button doesn't work on my PS5 (I can only eject discs using the OS UI) and the "Restart PS5" option doesn't work, because it only turns the PS5 off. Does your PS5 have similar issues?

I've completely reinitialized my PS5 today (including reloading the PS5 firmware from USB), but that didn't fix the issue. I was able to resume playing AC:V from sleep mode only once. When I tried this a second time, I got the "Please insert the game disc" error again...

Anyone else getting hardlocks during Spiderman Remastered? It's done it to me like 4 times during cutscenes. Maybe this update fixes it.

Still no folders, no way to organize your library, and not even a way to hide all that crap from PSN+ you claimed, or the PS4 demos that can't even work on PS5.

I didn't even know I liked that activity stream thing where I could show off all the trophees to my friends from games they'd never ever play.... until it was gone on PS5.

Did they fix the WIFI and internet issue? I always get disconnected after 30 minutes or very slow connection which makes multiplayer impossible. Other connected devices work just fine..

it most likely your setup. I have a launch unit and had 0 issues with network.

Well this is shit......my ps5 won’t start a game with disc in drive but once I eject it the game will load
Its a known issue and a mild inconvenience at worst. I found this to be the case only for ps4 discs of games that are available in PS+ collection.

Yeah it’s just weird that everything else works fine but the PS5 - iPhone, PS4, Smart TV, tablet, all works using the same router. My PS5 is the Japanese version if that makes any difference.

Look. It happens. I had the similar issue with Surface Pro 3 few years ago. All of my devices were working perfectly over the WIFI, but my SP 3 was disconnecting every 10-20 minutes. No matter what I tried, I just couldn't get it to work. Finally, I broke down and got a new WIFI router, which solved the problem right away.
