Terminator Game Concept (my idea)

I was watching T2 this weekend and thought about how much of the first two movies and even the third movie was nothing but roaming around a city trying to hunt down one of the Connors. There’s also a lot of car chases. A lot.

Speaking of vehicles, in the first movie, the Terminator steals a station wagon, a motorcycle, a police car, a pick up truck, and a semi. Kyle Reese steals a Ford LTD, an AMC gremlin, and a pick up truck.

In T2, Arnie steals a Harley, a pick up truck, a station wagon, and a 67 Chevelle The T-1000 steals a police van, a police car, and a police chopper as well as a semi hauling liquid nitrogen.

In T3 it’s more of the same except the vehicles are bigger and the Terminatrix can control multiple vehicles at one time.

So, we have a movie where the characters roam around a big city...

Steal multiple vehicles...

In Los Angeles...

In the 1990s...

Yes, I’m saying Terminator should be an open world game where you can steal any vehicle you want just like GTA. In fact, modders made a Terminator MOD for GTA V. So, the concept certainly isn’t unheard of.

I was bored today, so I came up with an idea of a Terminator video game. It could follow the first two movies with the first half of the movie following the events of the first movie and the second half, the second movie.

Of course it couldn’t be a fully fleshed out sandbox like GTA. That wouldn’t even make sense since that’s not the point about a game where you spend the majority of the game running from an assassin.

No, it would be more like L.A. Noire or Mafia where the open world part is mostly to get from one mission to another with some notable exceptions.

The focus of the gameplay would be to play as Sarah Connor/Kyle Reese (T1) and John Connor/T100 (T2) and go around LA collecting the different tools/weapons you need to defeat the terminator while avoiding the police and said terminator. Maybe expand upon the story for the sake of making the game a little more meaty.

Meanwhile, the terminator goes around randomly looking for you. The more attention you attract to yourself, the more likely he is to show up. He can be slowed down but not killed, at least not at first (like in Alien Isolation). All you can do is escape.

One variation could be that since the movies are set in LA and we’ve beaten LA to death by now in the game world, you could set it in the timeframe of T3 and make it take place outside of LA. Another variation would be that when you finish the game, you get to play the other side as a terminator hunting down the Connors.

An online mode could include a death match mode or battle royale, whathaveyou.

Then for a sequel, set the game in the future and give it to the devs that made Mad Max.

Anyway, my taco salad is ready. Let me know what you think.

I’ll be back...

i hope every game has a sort of "GTA" base

i'd love it if rockstar did a terminator game

especially after thinking about gta 6 because the impeccable gameplay motions we get in gta and rdr2 is going to evolve into even better things

i would just adjust vehicle acceleration to be more lifelike rather than how it is now where you're at motorsport speeds in seconds

a terminator chase gameplay would feel so cheap if the current vehicle models would be used

I used to play Warhawk on PS3 a lot and always felt that game with a Terminator future war skin might of been cool.

The tone of T1 or T2, with the effects, vehicles, lighting and scores from either one of those films.

Always wanted a Terminator MP game.

- Rebels vs different Terminators
- Each side has awesome gear and vehicles (ground and air)
- Stacked teams where rebel teams get a 4:1 or 6:1 ratio since Terminators are way more powerful
- Half and half, day and dark maps
- Half and half, modern day vs. futuristic war torn maps
- When you play as a Term, you use its optics (like red mode with analyzing shit all all over the screen)

I remember reading on gaf when I use to lurk someone thought an alien isolation style game would work wonders for Terminator. It was years ago, though, so I seriously doubt I can find it

I know about it. I heard it sucked.

Its a budget game saved by an actual good origin story that tied in perfectly with the main series, when was the last time that succeeded? Also the environmental artist and use of the licensed music/ sound help. These were my positives/ negatives from my review

Positives

Excellent use of music, sound from movies
Environmental artist and lighting
Story and characters
Weapon upgrade is a cool new idea
Level design
Exploration
Better than expected
Menu options

Negatives
Enemies AI and they can only go so far in an area
Weapons lack punch, volume
RPG elements are really unnecessary in this game
Too much loot, crafting obsolete
No photo mode
Why is there a vehicle being assembled/fixed in a bunker?

I like it!
In general, it feels like open worlds aren't utilized enough. This sounds like it would take great advantage of the playground and I like your idea of mechanics that balance the fact that you need to gather items and the more ruckus you make, the easier it will be for the Terminator to track you. Sounds like a potentially fun balance.

Problem with the terminator franchise is it’s just a chase constantly, trying to run away from the killer robot.

if they were to make that as a game a survival horror game could work really well, I don’t think action games are suited to terminator as an atmosphere. There has been some great terminator game don’t get me wrong but they don’t have that terminator atmosphere of being hunted

Have you ever played Friday the 13th on the NES? It’s essentially an open world survival horror game where you have to go around picking up all the necessary supplies to beat Jason. He shows up at random times or when you are getting close to your goal and all you can do is beat him back enough to escape until the final showdown. A modern day example of this would be Alien Isolation although that game is technically not open world.

So this would be an open world survival horror game with a single nearly unbeatable foe.

I would say it does not suck at all. I had great fun with it. It's not a new Titanfall or Halo, of course, but it's made with a big heart and has a surprisingly good story. Try it if you're a Terminator fan, I'd say it's made by fans for fans.
