I was nearly going to say this is Neo Geo territory back when their games cost the price of a Rolls Royce..

Things like this will only make services like GamePass and PS Now more acceptable as time passes.

Those prices that I am seeing on this thread for any video game are absurd.

Physical version is set (for now) at ~us$96 here in Sweden (799SEK).

On the Xbox side we're doing GP Ultimate for $60-80/yr, all 1st-party included day 1. My family runs 4 subs like this, it would be near impossible to purchase physical games and maintain perfect MP/Crossplay library in the same manner.

TLDR: We use Xbox like Netflix.

Wait 4 months, buy it 30 %.
Wait 6 months, buy it 50 %.
Wait 9 months, buy it 70 %

Check Ps store's deals if you dont believe me :)

If you bought the PS5 DE then you basically agreed to Sony fucking you over on digital prices. Outside of the random sale events, they are not competitive to physical disc prices you will find on Amazon or JB.

Considering digital games have no resale value, it’s just bonkers why they are so much more expensive.

Big mistake locking yourself into digital only. The best options for you are gamesharing and waiting on sales now.

Take a deep breath and WAIT FOR A SALE!

As a resident cheap ass bastard, paying full price should be a criminal act to begin with. :messenger_winking_tongue:

In the US, after tax, PS5s game are about $75 from PSN Store.

For me, that high price tag just means I'll wait for sales on games I'm less interested in. They go on sale fast enough.

But I'll gladly pay $75 on day 1 (to own forever) certain must play AAA PS5 games, like GT7 and GoW.

This is why a digital console only makes sense with something like gamepass.

$125 AUD vs $60-70AUD games isn't even the end of it as you can resell the physical games , so the gap is even bigger than it seems.

I would not stress it only if you are somewhat desperate to play the game, these games always go on sale compared to Nintendo games where it sometimes takes a decade to bring the price down.

I purchased the digital edition of the PS5 because it's the only one I could get my hands on. I am comfortable in life so don't really need to worry about trading in games etc to save coin and like the convenience of a digital game collection and not having to swap out discs.
Good luck.

Probably shouldn't have bought a console with only one storefront without any knowledge on the pricing. Your stuck paying what Sony says when they say. I'll pick up the disc PS5 with dozens of different storefronts to buy my games.

All digital consoles have always been the trojan horse. Support your retailer and buy the physical disc version. The used games market is there for exactly this. Gamers spoke loud and clear about it in 2013.

Now it's presented as a choice. Well, make the right choice.

Main reason I want to go full PC this gen.

For PSN, the best current alternative if you live in a country where Sony went crazy with the prices is creating a US account and waiting 6-9 months to buy games for $30-$35.

Probably a dumb question, but can you create an American account and pay American prices?

I know you can create a Japanese Switch account and buy stuff off the eShop, but I'm not sure how pricing works when doing that.

Yeah.
It won't let you use a credit card issued outside of the US but you can buy credit from Amazon or other places.

Also make your address in Alaska or some other state with no sales tax on PSN.

With that said, it's technically against the TOS. So you'll be spending potentially tons of money creating a digital collection that Sony could ban at any time. Not that they are actively banning these accounts or anything, but it's always going to be a possibility.

This is one of the many reasons why I do not give a fuck about the PS5 at this point, despite having bought every other Sony system at launch.

Every time I see that Demon's Souls is $130AUD for the BASE version, I just nope the fuck out.

Every man has his breaking point, and open, naked, unapologetic price gouging by an increasingly arrogant corporation is mine. Fuck Sony, fuck their game prices, and fuck their shitty system.
They usually go on sale like a month after release I got Demon souls for $99 from EB Games, as I priced matched Harvey Norman. And you get good trade in value if your level 2, it was $50 for trade in.

Buy physical/ wait 2-3 months for price drops.

Right now in my country they are selling:

Demon's Souls - 49,99€
Spider-man MM - 39,99€

You only pay premium if you want.

Unfortunately you have bought into a locked market now, digital has always been an expensive option as they always release games for the absolute maximum rrp on there. So you're pretty much screwed so you either wait and hope the games you want drop price in a sale or just not buying them as there's no other option. I'd never buy a digital only machine it hands over way too much control to the company in ownership.

I have a Digital Edition PS5 and I'll just wait for sales. There are many PS5 games that have been $40-$50 already (down from $70). IN my country, it's much more expensive if you buy physical. It's not like in the US where they discount games really fast. You can still get sport games at full price here. One time I saw Uncharted 2 for PS3 and it was FULL PRICE! 10 years later.

With PS4 I did buy games day on or even pre-ordered, however, my strategy this gen is just to wait few months for at least $20 price cut (which normally comes 2 or 3 months later). If there's a game that I really want, I might consider it at full price, but it will be the exception this time around.

I haven't bought Spiderman Miles Morales and Sackboy because I know they'll be on sale sometime soon.

Digital games prices on console are a joke. Even better when they lock discounts behind their strong armed subscription services that are standard discounts for everyone on pc and even on other consoles sometimes. Imagine coughing up 70-100 dollars for one game or going without until the one digital store you have access to puts it on sale. What a scam.

As I said in the other thread, PS5 price hike from $60 to $70 for the US isn't that bad at all. The real problems with price hikes is the unjust prices in other regions like Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. Just look at those prices 90US$ in Australia for a game? ridiculous.

Yeah I regret getting all digital ps5. I'll get one with a disc drive whenever they make a slim version

You all wanted a high end (ish) $1500 gaming PC for $500.

Well..nothing is free, time to pay the piper.

At least Sony price drops games over months. They could be like Nintendo and keep games the same price for years.
I guarantee you a 100%, Sony also would if they could. But nobody would pay 40+ today for Uncharted, Horizon and so on. Nintendo games sell like hot cake for many years.

The trend of incentivizing the player to wait continues. As noted already, digital is especially egregious regarding pricing, and there’s no competition so you either pay Sony’s price or you don’t. This is why I’d never buy an all digital console; any savings on the hardware are quickly lost from frequent butt reamings.

Thats cool your dad works at Sony and knows this stuff.

My aunt works at Nintendo and told me of a massive price drop from $59.99 to $59.98 for their games.

It's not that difficult. Nintendo misses many big 3rd party AAAs, so the selection of high quaility games is much lower and new console owners have to buy the older games. I know that some fanboys think so, but there is no such thing as good guy Sony. It's a huge company that wants to make money and if they could they would. Simple as that.

It is ridiculous indeed. I understand (although don't like) the price jump from $60 to $70, but considering the ever-increasing scope and development cost of big AAA games that Sony produces, I at least get $70 per game.

But then it should be around $70 even after currency conversion -- whether you are in AU or EU. Those people are paying extra for no reason.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
I wonder why they're screwing over other regions so much? Is there a reason for the cost increase?

In the US they went up by $10.

It's simple really.

It's because they can't get away with it.

Should've waited to get the console.

Just swap it for a disc edition when they're more readily available. Eat shit on the cost of the drive and the swap now to save a lot more in the long run.

In Brazil PS5 games are US$66, while PS4 games are US$46 or something

Sounds good, but it's really not. A dollar is more than R$5, and the Real was created R$1 to US$1

So I won't buy current gen console anytime soon....

3070/5600X will be fine until "Pro" consoles appear.
But a good pc comes up to 3k now... prices are fucked.
That's high price for exclusives. Other games should be normal + ps4 library

Yeah, prices for PC parts are ridiculous now, I'm glad I was able to secure my 3070 very close to MSRP. AMD is charging premium for 5xxx series but I was stuck with 570x board, I think right now Intel 10700k is the best CPU in terms of perf/price ratio (doubt 11 series will change much).

In 2-3 years PS5 will have some exclusives worth playing and will be in stock, this will be the good time to buy this console.
