Gardening and growing food, how to be self sufficient (can bundle some biology into this as well)

Remove religion, wanna teach religion, bundle it in with history as a way of teach how most wars start

Yes on gardening! I took a year of horticulture in high school and did not use it much until I owned a house and had kids who want to grow things. (Also brought my mom's plants back to life several times. It is surprising relaxing and is one of those, "bask in the victory, troubleshoot what went wrong" kind of things.

Lots already suggested this, but I 100% agree that 'real world' finance management should be taught to kids. How interest rates work, loans and credit cards, how to avoid getting into massive debt etc. How to save wages to buy something rather than take out expensive finance (or at least how to shop around for the best deals etc.). Most kids (me included) stumble out of school with very little knowledge of how all that stuff works and if they have parents who are also awful with money and running up debts, it's a vicious circle.

That was exactly my life at the time. At least I learned how not to be bad with money by watching how bad my parents were with it, and not to do that.

I agree with the suggestions of some more practical skills in general. I mean, I don't know if you really have to teach someone to change a tyre on car, but kids aren't going to learn effectively in a classroom all day anyway, and balancing it out with more hands on things is probably a better use of time.

FWIW Swedish schools have a subject dedicated to more practical life skills mostly focused on cooking food and nutrition (it also includes home economics and that kinda stuff though).

Adding to 'life skills' - everything to do with home maintenance and minor interior decor renovations. Cleaning stains off the carpet, fixing a faulty washing machine or a clogged pipe, etc. Why? Because in 10 years I never found a single person in the 'home repair' industry that was not a crook and wanted to charge 5x for some stupid shit.

Example from a week ago - washing machine is leaking to the neighbor downstairs, wife calls the customer service, they want to sell her 200€ plan for a technician to come and fix the machine. I get the machine out of the cupboard, notice the hose getting the water in is leaking, order a new one on Amazon for next-day delivery, afterwards machine is perfectly fine.

What schools are you guys going to where religion was taught outside of its historical impact? (which is huge) I think some of you are just trying to be atheist because you haven't said it in a few hours to anybody.

Yeah I’m a little surprised they teach religion as part of the public schools in any western country.

I went to junior high and high school in the Bible Belt and it was never, ever taught. I remember what were basically “trigger warnings” before lessons on evolution and that’s about it. For the history classes everyone took, we learned about the Greco-Roman and some of the Egyptian pantheons but that was it. AP Euro covered religion in a typical historical frame where there were schisms and Catholics vs Protestants and Popes doing stuff.

I was raised in a non-religious agnostic/atheistic household before converting to Christianity as a teenager so I would have been hyper sensitive to any actual religion prior to that.

Perhaps my generation was lucky enough to have parents around d that took the time to teach this shit too, whe u boil it down, its just logical thinking and problem solving skills, with practical skills on top

Mom later converted weirdly enough (she passed away in her 40s sadly) but dad died a staunch and miserable materialist. Nothing worse than an 80+ year old alcoholic nihilist.

I am 25 and I only really just learned how to manage my money properly, budget it and save it. I can't remember ever learning too much about it at school. It really is one of those things everyone should learn, sooner rather than later.
