[IGN] Overwatch 2 - 55 New Details - PvE progression, new maps, role changes, etc.

Overwatch 2 didn't get a release date, or word on a beta at BlizzCon 2021 - but a behind-the-scenes panel revealed a huge number of new details. We've picked out 55 of the most exciting changes being made to Overwatch from gameplay and hero looks to new maps and modes.

Passives for roles are interesting. Ult changes....

PvE mode could be promising?

From that video, PvE as a whole sounds potentially massive. Making a full co-op RPG-esque campaign out of it with skill trees is way more than what I thought it would be.

I don’t base the pve events we got in overwatch even on the same league as what they have shown in OW2. The blizzcon 2019 mission showed a major step up. It looks like they took a lot of the good stuff from destiny and found a way to frame it around OW characters. The weather stuff is great, the new gun sounds and subtle effects seem like a huge step up and the skill trees will be tons of fun for coop / solo. however after all the tree unlocks I want to know the reason to come back.

Their view of 100s of hero missions sounds pretty pie in the sky but if they are able to get 30-40 really good quality in the first year or two that will be more then worth my $60.

Honestly can’t believe they didn’t show us a tease of the next hero. Makes me think this is a 2022 game for sure.

Hopefully not late 2022. Was hoping for a spring 2021 release based on the first footage they showed years ago.

It's real purdy, but is there a market for a sequel? With BR (love it or hate it) still being the dominant genre.
Still, good news if you are a streamer/influencer. Lots of marketing dollars coming your way. :p

It's marketed as a sequel but all exisiting owners of OW will have their game be upgraded for free to OW2, with only the campaign co-op missions being behind a paywall. But everything else like new heroes, new multuplayer modes, the new engine, art updates, etc. will be available to everyone. Even all your stats and unlockables transfer over.

It's a rather consumer friendly way of doing a sequel to a GAAS game. I'm surprised they manged to convince the Activison-Blizzard board members on this idea. You just know they wanted to turn OW into Blizzard's COD with multiple sequels released every few years.

Someone explain to my why Blizzard still thinks anyone cares about Overwatchs story.

Played 500+ hours of it and the only thing I know about it is Reaper and Widow are bad...I think.

It's a sci-fi superhero universe with a diverse cast of likeable characters. FWIW, I dig the cinematic shorts, comics and stories released so far. I don't expect to be blown away by the Evil-Robot Strikes Back storyline, but the serviceable plot is just a setup to see these heroes and villains in action.

The effort justifies the wait although part of me would prefer if they just threw in a couple of new maps and that PVP Push mode so we can get on with it. This is the first time I couldnt’t be bothered to grind out the wins for those new skins.

2CP won’t be missed if they missed if they go through with it.

I honestly couldn't care less about story missions, all I'm interested in is PVP. In that respect, it looks like overwatch 1.5

Make it F2P you cowards!

If they have the audacity to include loot boxes in a full priced game, just go full F2P. Seems like there's enough content angles to support it. Skins and paid DLC modes if they want.

I sure as hell aint paying $60 for OW2 so it will be an easy pass if not F2P.

Overwatches loot boxes are actually pretty damn fair. They are literally only cosmetic items that have zero impact on the game, and are given out like candy every week as long as you play some games.

I have never bought a single one and I have just about every item in the game along with over 100,000 in the buying currency they give you for duplicates / coin boxes.

I don’t think Overwatch can handle the toxicity of F2P. The paying customers are bad enough.

Is Mei a tank yet? Never understood why she was moved to Damage.
Tank? Why? She fulfills virtually none of the roles that a good tank occupies. On top of that, from a design perspective, she's too tiny and nondescript whereas every tank in the game is large, imposing and forthright.

I mean, i'm gonna play the pvp too, but i was kinda bored of that after 200 hours in the first one so i'm curious about the new stuff.

Same. Of course I will dip into QP but probably some ranked here or there but that became so obnoxious after awhile, for me anyway.

If PvE co-op is fully fleshed out in OW2, I see myself spending most of my time there, with some PvP on the side.

I've done better tanking with her than with most of the actual tanks. & she's a tank in HotS.
