the main question is will the be a new 3ds situation or a gamecube to Wii situation.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the former but I would prefer the latter. To a degree. Just do what MS is doing and have the next gen version be 99% identical barring the jump in processing power that way the larger switch install base won’t be completely abandoned and within the next couple years start phasing out the regular switch.

Yeah dlss 4K with same graphics sounds like a Nintendo style refresh.

I mean I hope I’m wrong but eh.

Just having effective temporal reconstruction/AA would be a nice upgrade imo, the res is so low that it ruins the spectacle in Odyssey sometimes for me, like so pixelated I can't even understand what I'm looking at, like I'm wearing goggles filled with catapillars.

DLSS 2.0 is incredible. Gonna make a world of difference on the Switch Pro. A DLSS 2.0'd to 4k image on a Switch size'd screen will be sharp as fuck. (edit: in retrospect, I realize how stupid the 4k screen comment was. As others pointed out, 4k would be for docked mode output on TV, not portable)

Gonna buy the shit out of this whenever it launches. Hopefully, anyway. Probably gonna have to have stock alerts ready.

Can't wait to play Wii ports in 4K 😍

I mean basically all games look great in 4K so I'd be genuinely happy to play Wii or even N64 games in 4K.

3D World and BF in 4K would be amazing.

Some of the smart ass posts here are really bad.

I still don't get the concept behind the supposed Pro though. It being enough to do 4K but no more than that doesn't really make any sense so what's the idea here?

65" is too big for switch bro!

Over 3 year old game still running like a shit show on a RTX 3080 paired with an I9 9900K. Latest build of the emulator too.

Well yeah they neglect to mention that... and shader compilation stutter... and many other problems. Xenoblade must be a tricky one to get running well given that performance though.

New year, same rumor. The Switch Pro has been rumored to release for about as long as we knew the Switch's official name.

So, 2018 wasn't the year. We were pretty sure it would come in 2019. We KNEW it would come in 2020.

2021 is a given. Right?

If you mean why doesn't it go higher than 4K if its upscaling using dedicated HW cores* - as in, it doesn't demand nearly the same increase in rasterization power that native 4K rendering would actually require - then I'd say its because of the video output, 4K+ requires HDMI 2.1 and thats super niche right now. Every year they overpredict 8K adoption and its funny, in March: "There will be 1 million sold!", then in July: "There will be 300k sold... we think!".

*If it even is that, could just be pure software

Unless thats not you meant, in that case what did you mean?

If it doesn't come this year I'll pan fry and eat my resolutions, you can quote me on that!

Indeed, I've increased my viewing distance to the other side of the street for Switch games. I sit in my neighbours garden.
In all seriousness it depends on the game but odyssey looks reasonably crisp, but jagged on my 55, Bowser's fury is lower res on average so it looks noticeably rough when not moving, and 540p(!)Yoshi is just blurry, wonder what that looks like on a 65 sony. Now imagine if our TVs weren't so good at upscaling :messenger_grinning_sweat:

As for a new model i'll believe it when I see it we've had 18 rumors so far lol.

I still don't get the need for this. They sold 80M and are still doing well. Why add new HW to the mix? They will need a new system in a couple of years anyways. Releasing a modest update over 4 years, possibly 5 years into the system's lifecycle seems stupid unless it is the next gen system.

How well did the upgrade work for the 3DS? How much do they make on a switch sale? Would users who upgrade to the improved system bring in enough revenue by themselves or are they hoping used switches on ebay after upgrades will bring in more software sales? Do they think they can win over other gamers with an improved switch that wouldn't buy the regular version?
Whatever it is, it will likely still be very underpowered. I'd prefer it be a new system with the big step up that should entail.

I was playing BOTW with my son the other day.... it looked a bit rough.... but in addition to a resolution bump I hope this 4K switch has some mythical texture AI upscale powers as well... someone get Bioware on the line!

There's no reason it needs to have one. After the Lite, all rules are off.
Handheld play is a big (main?) part of switch's appeal (not to me, but) so I don't see that happening. I would like them to just release a switch home with 1060 esque performance and dlss on top but we all know that shit isn't happening lol. Hypothetically in that scenario, if there's no switch pro lite, that would make putting games on the OG switch a huge pain in the ass / an impossibility.

I'd love that, but I'll believe it when I see it. It really doesn't seem like a Nintendo thing to do and the Switch is still selling great. Nope.

According to many surveys, they are used nearly 50/50.

If I had to bet, there will be a docked-only iteration of the Switch at some point. They even be able to make a docked Switch both more powerful than the current Switch and cheaper to manufacture.

Farts from no name insiders verified by no name mods, like the farts from Dusk Golem which proved to be a hit and miss like all the "verified insiders".

Support 4K =/= play in 4K resolution.

A Xbox one (classic) support 4K resolution but are incapable of doing 4K resolution gaming in 99% of the games...

Yeah i doubt that. In fact i doubt it will be much more powerful than XB1 and PS4, this is Nintendo we are talking about here.
XB1 is already 3 times more powerful than Switch, would anyone really expect Switch Pro to be more than 3 times as powerful as Switch?.
wasnt the wiiu powerful than the PS3 so why wont this be powerful than the PS4 giving that is coming in 2021/2022 before you add factors like DLSS. as for me im hoping for 1440p+60fps with the help of DLSS.
