Games that you regretted buying at full price

R-4561196-1478954820-8504.jpeg.jpg

One of my earliest purchases for Playstation when I was really into fighting games. Among the worst games I've ever played regardless of price.

Most games mentioned in this thread are just games that were overhyped but generally ok or maybe dropped in price very quickly. Blind purchases were much more common before gaming sites and forums became popular and some of these games would be considered borderline unplayable by modern standards.

Doom Eternal, what a sequel run amok gone bad, they thought that "More EVERYTHING" would make it better, instead they've watered down and fucked up what they accomplished with Doom 2016. They turned enemies into walking ammo dispensers by making ammo rarer at the early parts of the game, they made every other enemy have a special weak point that slows down combat in a counter-productive way. FUCKING JUMPING PUZZLES IN A FPS... even Half Life got fucked in the behind over this one, what the fuck were they thinking?

Doom 2016 is still amazing...

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Just cause 4. Played through 2 and 3 and were hyped for the fourth. If I pre ordered at Gamestop I would get a metal case.

Fuck that game it was nothing like the precious games. They took all the fun parts of the previous and replaced it with garbage.

Space Channel 5 - I remember it was a summer day when it was 100 degrees, and I bought it out of sheer boredom.

I remember I was super excited for 4 and then something else came out at around the same time I got instead. Never did play it until it was part of PS+ recently.

Yeah, it's bad. They even lowered the amount of ammo you could carry to basically nothing and I was constantly out of ammo in the few hours I played.

I expected a schlocky B game but I straight up got pure garbage. Maybe the framerate problems were kind of endearing on PS2 but on PS4 this was just sad.
4.1 is amazing! Played the crap out of it on ps4 pro. Still have a lot of it to play. FPS drops you come to expect with this series, can't wait to see 6 on ps5. Honestly, the fps drops weren't that bad on ps4 pro, try playing the ps3 version then you'd appreciate it lol.

I have to second the Just Cause 4 remark. It took a long time till framerates became playable. Just didn't feel like the last few games which I really enjoyed. The only JC game I haven't finished.

Damn, can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game.

Yea that's about all. Have I loved every other game....NO. But at least I got them for a deal. Not bad for over 30 years of buying games!

Modem Warfare 3. Got halfway through the campaign and realized it was rehashed shit that should have been DLC to conclude story of previous MW games.

Don't buy games for full price. I've been gaming for 20+ years. I've purchased one game for full price: Halo: Combat Evolved. Games didn't go on sale super often back then and I still waited on most games. Now they nosedive.

The Division, Anthem, Mass Effect Andromeda, Far Cry Primal, Watch Dogs 2... There're more I'm sure but those ones come to mind at the moment.

This gen FFXV.
Other games were disappointing or didn't live up to expectations. Like TLOU2 was disappointing but still felt like a well made and polished game.
But FFXV wasn't just disappointing, it was an unfinished mess. Square pretty tried to pass an early access release for a full $60 final release.
Same here. It was the first game I played on the PS4 in over a year. I had it shipped fast, and it really kind of blew compared to what I was hoping for. What's worse is that it was discounted a couple weeks later.

I was slightly disappointed in myself for purchasing BoTW on WiiU. I told myself it was a good move because I wasn't getting a switch. 6 months later I bought a switch.

Pokémon games
Brute Force
Counter strike for Xbox
Makai Kingdom/Phantom Brave (Disgaea these were not)
State of Emergency
Suikoden 4
Midtown Madness 3
Little Big Planet 2
Soul Calibur 5
Darksiders 2

Blue Dragon

Actually far less than I expected but there have been lots of used games and rentals that were trash too.

I also have a tendency to buy a game at full price and then not even get around to it until the game is already like $15-20.

Dragon Age inquisition

idk if it’s any good or what the consensus is, i bought it randomly and I was put off by how people looked and couldn’t get into it after that

This thread probably is meant for when you buy a game, play it and it ends up being trash.

but honestly the most regret and most common scenario is when someone buys a game and just never ends up playing it or only a few minutes. Irrespective of the quality of the game. Then the game in a couple months is half price as with all games these days.

I rarely buy games new anymore and if I do it's because I trust the developer not to release a turd.

Before the last gen started it wasn't too uncommon to buy the occasional stinker at launch, especially before the internet got involved. A lot of the time the games would be at the store before the EGM telling me if a game was shit or not so I had to take a leap of faith.

I think the last games I bought at launch that I regretted were Watchdogs and Halo 5. Since then I've been a lot more cautious with the games I buy day one and haven't had any full-price disappointments like those. Pretty much any game that has a review embargo extending right up to the release date throws a red flag.

Last year. I was locked down for almost three months, and I spent most of it drunk and listening to Frank Zappa with tears in my eyes. Couldn't see my parents, couldn't do anything. Hardly any games releasing.

So, what did I do?

I thought it would be a GREAT idea to buy Marvel Avengers. Full price. The deluxe edition. On Steam.

I still think about it and stare at myself in the mirror, feeling the shame that is usually reserved for sex criminals and cancelled celebrities.

Marvel's Avengers (played for less than 3 hours)
Evolve (played for less than 3 hours)
Godfall (got the Plat at least)
Anthem (lul)

Lmao. Dude, are you telling us that you just fell for all these "game as a service" type of games, which had their own betas prior release -betas where you could clearly confirm how bad they smelled before pulling the trigger?? Maybe, it is time to give up on these type of games, or go play some decent free to play games with the game as a service offer, if you like that much.

My lastest full-price purchase regret was The Outer World.

I was expecting my New Vegas spiritual succesor, and what I received was an unbalanced-repetitive mess with lame story, non-existence consequences, bland world with dumb characters and dialogues, and lack of variety.

i even pay for deluxe price. wait for almost 10 years that end up with half assed content. its like flashy tin can. nice design and marketing but made empty loud noise when thrown on floor.

Ethnicity is not a race!
Division 2
Battlefield 1
Gears 5

But the worst is Gears of War 4. That game is the one that taught me that I am one of those folks that is easily manipulated by loot boxes. I go through my MS account, and I spent SOOO much money on lootboxes on that game. It actually makes me a little sick when I look at it. I got Gears 5 launch for cheap, and I haven't played more than the main campaign. I refuse to get into the multiplayer, because that is what sucked me in.

I bought a PS3 for Uncharted 2.

I forced myself to play until a mind numbing train level and stopped.

Literally the first game in my life where I felt the critics misled me. Every other critically acclaimed game I picked up before then, I loved.

Yeah, uh, I made fun of myself for it. Was that not clear?

I'm just a sucker for looter shooters (in Evolve's case, I believed in the team making the game).

Already got 70 bucks ready for Outriders. YOLO.

Haven't seen it yet, but Wolcen :(

I almost included this. Yeah, it kinda sucked (and still kinda sucks, tried playing it again last week), but I did sink about 60 hours into, so I guess I got my money's worth? At least it looks nice, I guess, for the genre.

I didn't fall for anything. I'm just a sucker for looter shooters (in Evolve's case, I believed in the team making the game).
Evolve could have been so good, but for whatever reason, I found it painfully boring to play.

Bought it. Twice. On PS4 and PC. Ugh.

I held out hope and didn't refund it, but man, it just felt "off". The devs having the math behind your stats borked really didn't help me wanting to put more of my time into it.

I ended up just buying Diablo 2 for the 100th time and got my fix that way

I dipped out of Cyberpunk to wait for the next-gen patch, I still trust CDPR to make it right considering launch Witcher 3 to current Witcher 3 so I didn't bother with a refund.

My biggest regret was probably the 3DS at launch. Those 10 GBA games didn't make up for Nintendo slashing the price by a third in 6 months.
