Games that you regretted buying at full price

The Medium.....jesus where do I start? Runs like fucking shit even on a 3090 and a 5950x at 3840 by 1600, with black borders cos god forbid they make it work with 21:9 aspect. It jumps from sub 40% gpu usage to 98% at the drop of a hat, while the cpu usage never basically gets above 8%. It's utterly terrible performance wise if you turn on all the bells and whistles (and why wouldn't I before anyone starts, it's a flipping 3090). I eventually turned down the RT to the middle (On) setting rather than ultra and capped it at 30fps. It still had framespikes whenever anything remotely dynamic happened on scene. The poor performance ruined the game's flow and momentum too.

It looks like crap too. The RT doesn't seem to take the lighting conditions into consideration at points in the game (late on it's night time and the puddles are reflecting the area, but with what appears to be daylight lighting). The characters look photoshopped onto the scene due to the horrible DOF effect they employ. Everything is blurry.

Gameplay wise, the puzzles are stupid....oh I need a valve handle to open this valve.....five steps left....oh there it is. Every single puzzle feels like this. Otherwise it's walking (or fast walking if you prefer the jog) through a drab environment. Then we have to cut holes in some flesh bag shite to pass through, which takes forever to perform as the PC cuts through it.

The only thing it has going for it is the sound design is pretty good and creepy. I'll not go into plot details in case anyone wants to play it, but I don't personally think it was anything to write home about.

Marvels avengers for 70 dollars ( my rationale; oh boy ill have another ps5 launch game ready to when the system comes out) of course they lied about the next gen releases at the console launches, and now the game is routinely available for 20 bucks, what a moron i was.

C77 - still waiting for proper updates. So there was no need for pre-order (it was my first, and probably last pre-order ever).

I can't even remember. Pretty sure it was Uncharted 4. I lost interest half way through because it was more of the same. Since then the only games I've paid full price for are Nintendo games but they're usually worth it.

Anthem is self explanatory. For some reason I couldn't really stay interested in RAGE 2 so I quit playing quite fast & Ghost Recon Breakpoint took 1 step forward with some nice additions but also took 2 steps back for me. Although after the update where you can get rid of the RNG/RPG stuff in Breakpoint it has become much better.

Dark Souls 2 on PS3:
After an hour of trying to enjoy it I booted up Demons Souls and the contrast in visuals and framerate was shocking.

Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve's Racing Vision PS2:
Not just the worst racing game, not even just the worst game, probably the worst THING ever.
I biked back into town in the rain just to return this abomination.

It wasn't very expensive but I resented every single penny I spent on Dangerous Golf. Thought I was doing the right thing by supporting ex-Criterion, but Christ that game was absolutely awful and should never have been released - I get that it was a proof of concept of their engine but that doesn't excuse how unplayable it was.

The Bouncer on PS2 and Dark Cloud. I thought Dark Cloud was going to be like a straight up Zelda clone and I remember being annoyed at running out of water and stuff in the dungeons. I should probably revisit it though because I was a kid then and probably wasn't grasping how the game should be played.

The Bouncer, I don't remember exactly what I didn't like about it, but I feel like everyone was disappointed in that game. Early previews showed destructible environments and stuff like that. I don't think the actual game included anything like it.

Horizon Zero Dawn
God of War PS4
Uncharted 4

These three games cured my 25 years Sony fanboysim for good :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Hmm, I usually don't buy full priced games (at one point I just bought used copies, because I wasn't in the rush to play new games) and now GamePass has more or less discouraged me from buying stuff altogether, but I got Ps4 pro pretty late last gen just to play all the exclusives. Some were heavily discounted by then and some were more or less full priced. Two of the latter were Days Gone and Death Stranding, both of which were huge disappointments. I meaninglessly wasted around 20 hours on both and despite my appreciation of open world games, I couldn't stand them for very specific reasons.

FINAL FANTASY XV. I thought I was buying the biggest thing that was going to be ever made after 10 years of waiting...I received a game in Alpha State with no story, with shit gameplay, with an empty world that screams "BUY THE DLC!!!" at every corner. Made me lose all my faith on Squareenix..thanks god FFXIV Shadowbringers exists to give me hopes.

Anthem. I know I know, it's my fault...but the idea of a 3rd person IronManDestiny was too good for me to dodge.

Xenoblade Chronicles DE.

It starts off really well with story and missions but then it becomes apparent that the main mechanic is to avoid really strong enemies and only fight enemies of a slightly higher level and gradually level up rendering the challenge a bit academic. The attributes and budding system is also not terribly clear and I am not sure what it adds. I am wandering the Avatar-like glowing night section aimlessly and really can't be bothered to figure out what I am supposed to do next knowing that it is just more of the same- the story payoff just doesn't feel worth it so I am starting Xcom 2 instead.

Red Dead Redemption 2
It's so long and all the activities are so laborious, that, rather than be immersive it feels like a total chore to do anything. Stopped after less than 10 hours.
Agree with Xenoblade chronicles. One of the most overrated Jrpg's I ever played and I love the genre. Will still try XC2 though, heard some say that one is better.

I bought this based only on the store page description and screenshots.
I think I must have been half asleep when I hit the buy button.
Impulse online store shopping is not my forte.

SF2 on the C64. Think it was about 15-20 pounds (before Euro)

Considering the limitations of the hardware, the faithfulness to the original art style of the sprites is somewhat impressive. There was actually attention paid to the art quality in this rancid piece of shit....fun to see.

All they need to do is create a PS front end where so sign in on my desktop to my account and have access to the store with PC versions and I'm there.

Posted this earlier but time-stamped it here when it is explained exactly.

1 programmer and a forced deadline for Christmas. It was nearly unplayable but check it out on an emulator if you want a laugh. Shocking they charged full price for it.

Oh and the high ratings in gaming mags at he time conned people into buying it. Hilarious in retrospect but normal for games back then it staff were bribed.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
Uncharted 1, 3 (2 was awesome until ND decided to be the mp no fun police)
The Last of Us

All stupidly overhyped by people so they can feel special about their console purchase choice. Go corporate brand!

Assassin's Creed III.
Although I've never bought a game at full price, I still regret wasting the money I spent on this piece of shit.

Read Dead Redemption 2, but I've wasted plenty of money with games on sale too that I never played or just played once. Nowadays, I almost never buy games on launch day unless I'm a fan of the developer.

same.

The issues I had at release was just horrid. Missing faces, people flying in the air, Roach not crossing the bridge, a corrupt save at 40 hours. During the rest of 2015, so many other great games came out like Fallout 4 and MGSV that I legit forgot about it and ended up playing it years later....only to find many of those issues still existed. So it sucks to beat a game years later and still have issues with it and by the time you finished it the shit was like $15..... Its not the worst game of all time, but they had no fucking business releasing that game in 2015 with all those issues especially after all the shit they gave Ubisoft for Unity the year prior.

The next game I regret buying at full price is Cyberpunk 2077 lol (to be fair, I got the Amazon 20% discount for new games as I had it pre-ordered for years and they ass was going to PAY WHAT THEY OWE)
I'm sorry but its funny to me how you made the same mistake twice. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Worst hockey game on planet Earth. Why didn't I just rent it for $2 or $3? Damn.

I loved that game! It felt so impressive to have a 3D ish hocket game back then. I do remember the game having some exploits that were game breaking though.

Cyberpunk.

Don’t take me wrong, I absolutely loved playing it but a small part of me keeps thinking I should have played this when everything is already fixed.
