people are reminded that Sony sells a console that is largely built on exclusive content.

Yeah right... Take FIFA, GTA and Fortnite out of Playstation and sales go down by a third. This is not Nintendo we are talking about.

And the brand itself, it's "global appeal" was a long term strategy that included being VERY hands off with pirated HW on third world countries, even first world ones during the ps1 and ps2 eras at least. That way they ran Sega out of the HW market and almost manage to do the same with Nintendo were not for their handheld division keeping the ship afloat.

It's undeniable that their first party studios play a role in the appeal of the playstation brand but that's not the whole picture

Of course not. I agree with you - the biggest sellers on all systems are third party. COD, Fifa, etc. First party doesn't move units like third party.

But, if you're not a forum warrior with an axe to grind, and you're looking at the two systems, the PS5's exclusive lineup is - in all likelihood - somewhat more enticing. Especially right now, since Microsoft delayed Halo Infinite.

This is a lot of complaining from people who are more than likely going to pirate the games and say they’re shit anyway

Because that would ruin the image where they want people to buy into their ecosystem. It's how Microsoft started with Xbox One games being on PC. Then they fully became transparent when porting over their games on PC.

Untransparent? Do you mean opaque?

Days Gone is almost 2 years old. There's really nothing remarkable about a 2 year old console game being ported to PC.

There's a few things that Sony has been doing lately that has me scratching my head.....

PSN being gimped to where it's harder than ever to find what you're looking for, like addons for example, or the lack of pics or vids and lack of sorting options.

Ending production of the superior PS4 Pro, but keep producing the inferior PS4 Slim. Totally backwards IMO.

The PS5 being a big gargantuan monstrosity unnecessarily. I mean, REALLY?

Having only a dinky little ~650GB of storage for PS5 games (and soldering it to the board instead making it replaceable if it fails) and dragging their feet about enabling the secondary SSD slot, and/or allowing cold-storage of PS5 games to a less expensive HDD.

Lack of what should have been super-easy physical BC with PS1/2 games. I'll excuse no PS3 BC for reasons most here should already understand.

Letting their first-party exclusives go to PC.

And of course, lack of availability of the PS5.

It honestly seems like they are TRYING to diminish their video game division. Why would they do these things if they're not trying to reduce their dominance?

Jim Ryan said ps fans did'nt complain about Death Strending and HZD ports on pc, so they will continue... Hey gaf ponys what are you waiting for? Why the biggest shitstorm ever has not began?

ps. Sorry for my bad english.

I think they are mainly to find the right balance between getting money from PC players without getting PlayStation player to move to PC.
I really want to know how many dedicated Console players can move to PC or even afford to own high end PCs if exclusives goes to PC
.

I was not planning to buy PS5 on scalper rates anyways. Steam storefront offer native support and regional pricing. It is win win for Sony.

Fanboys dont matter.

I don't think they are sneaky on purpose, it's just nothing to make a big announcement for. Why shpuld Sony care? I bet 80% of the gamers don't give a shit about their exclsuives anyways and from the rest there is only few die hard fanboys that cry their eyes out. Nobody cares about those freaks.

You're saying things that are patently stupid. I'm not a troll, I'm responding to your absurd argument that having Sony content on a Microsoft platform doesn't value-add to said Microsoft platform. It's a ridiculous claim to make. You're the fool for making it.

It adds nothing. There is no direct monetization so they may as well be spending their gaming time downloading pirated MS software via torrent.

And honestly, who the fuck is going to buy a gaming PC just to play 2 year old Playstation games? If they are that important why the wasted time and increased expense over simply picking up a used PS4?

No one. People buys a PC to play games the most superior way and ps4 games may seem to be a bonus for some.

In the grand scheme of things, as a bonus for owning a gaming PC its utterly insignificant. An extra couple of old games among literally tens of thousands via direct play, streaming, and emulation is not going to move the needle!

Put yourself in their shoes.

Do you realize how it feels to be in a social media crossfire between rabid PS fans and PC Master Race zealots? Those people are already annoying enough as they are, you’d have to be really stupid to willingly and openly give them more ammo :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Some people really want to see a conspiracy everywhere.

When other publishers port 2+ year old games to a different platform it`s barely worth a 5 sentence news article and that`s normal, but when Sony do it and don`t send airplanes dropping fliers everywhere it`s "sneaky".......
Why do some kids always try to shoot everything out of proportion? Just how bored are you?

OP makes some good observations. Sony is quietly pushing out PC games not to upset the more rabid fans and to not take away from the positive buzz surrounding the PS5. They're not being sneaky, it's more of a balance act.
Once the public is properly lubed up they might get more aggressive and start dropping The Uncharted Quadrilogy, Bloodborne & Ghosts of Tsushima.

I’m not a PC player so this doesn’t affect me the least, but I can understand why people would feel this way if they are pc players as well as ps owners

For PC players, I understand they should be aware it’s coming to pc from the get-go. Even if years away. At least give them a choice instead of low-key force them to double-dip

On the other hand, games so far are already a few years old. More revenues will most likely mean a better chance for a sequel/better-bigger next game(s) from studios

The real question to me is ‘’are the new revenues making up for the current players deciding to wait from now on to see IF it’s coming to PC’’?

What a strange OP. Is a console manufacturer supposed to set off fireworks about releasing a game on something other than their platform? Until they start collecting license fees for PC games, don't expect them to make it any kind of priority for development or marketing.

Or just subscribe to PS Now for a month. That's how I played Bloodborne and Spiderman.

They make no official announcements themselves and it’s always in an interview down in the 9th question. Horizon Zero Dawn was “announced” in the PS Blog in a segment not about Horizon or anything PC related.

Days Gone was “announced” in a magazine interview from a random question out of a segment which again has nothing to do with Days Gone or PC. Moments later the Steam page shows up. Like they strategically planned it timingly after the article went up.

They also are very secretive on what other games are coming. A game shows up out of nowhere and they give bullshit tidbits about the PC market then leave people speculating until the next random game shows up. Unlike say Microsoft who is very clear on their PC support; everything day one everywhere.

It’s like they’re trying fool people to keep buying PS4 and PS5 thinking all those games are still exclusive while they sneakily release their games on PC unannounced.

Here’s to the next PS game on PC being known about while Jim Ryan is being interviewed about his house decorations.

There not being sneaky at all. Expect PS4 games to eventually come to P.C. to build interest to purchase the PS5 if they want to play the sequel or Sony's New IPs. It's actually pretty smart.

It's because SONY must continue to sell PlayStation hardware to be successful. They make an enormous amount of money selling hardware and related peripherals, along with the "exclusive' software.

If they openly announce all or some their exclusive games will be on PC at some point, it would kill the appeal of having their console for potential consumers.

They're basically quietly replicating Microsoft's strategy, in some ways. The only difference is Microsoft doesn't really have to sell XBOX hardware like SONY has to sell PlayStation hardware.
