because I have a PS5 already?
Should I play these on PS4 instead?

cross gen isn’t a new concept and it doesn’t invalidate good games
I look forward to the year 1 memes in 10 year years of all the great games only on PS5. Similar to PS2.

You got your wires crossed, I asked why they should upgrade to PS5 from PS4 not why you should downgrade if you already did.

If you can’t see the the difference, that’s not my problem.

I’m not asking anyone to upgrade, so why would I care? If you don’t, you do you bro, idgaf

not like Sony cares either with every PS5 being sold out before even getting on the shelf

all I’m saying is that for me my PS5 is going to be playing a lot more great games in year 1 than PS4 or PS3 had

Nice move.

More dishonest goal shifting when called out on your original statements.

I wish one time one of you had enough conviction to stick with your original story.

Sure Sony is nothing but bangers now and everyone needs to own a PS5 for cross gen games. Best launch ever.

🤪

I'm putting all of you on my wall of degenerates giving this trash an A

I gave an A for Returnal and FFVII remake. I also liked Crash 4 a lot, Kena and Oddworld.

I loved so much the graphics, atmosphere and art design of Returnal in this last video. I find this game very original and can't wait to see more.

Kena : bridge of spirits was quiet good too, lovely game.

You can put me in whatever wall you want, but I liked a lot Returnal, Crash4, FFVII, Kena and Oddworld on PS5.
Trash ? You should reserve these words for your type of attitude and posts.

A lot of these games are ps4 and ps5, and yet series s is blamed for "ruining" next gen. Just goes to show you how much bs that is.

Kena looks amazing regardless.
The story of returnal is starting to look a bit more interesting.

Ratchet not a cross gen title, Demon’s Soul not a cross gen title, Astro’s Play Room not a cross gen title, FF VII seems more like a remaster of a remake, but hey...

I think Kagey’s just trying to bait you and try to get you in this corner where you would have criticised Xbox from doing cross gen for two years (not sure if you did any of that, but being part of people assimilated in Sony GAF you kind of blend together), misquote the “We believe in generations” line without context to make for a stronger effects, and tie it to the statements you are making.

There is a mix of exclusive PS5 only titles that make use of next generation features and cross generation ones that do not make best use of PS5 as if they had been next generation exclusives.

PS4 support will diminish soon enough and without COVID and supply issues it would have waned even sooner, the point behind XSS stands. A cheaper digital only 512-1024 GB XSX for $349-399 would have helped the entire ecosystem, but since MS did not go with it and launched XSS instead we are stuck arguing why it was a genius move or the bestest move 🤷‍♂️.

Sony has both. I just don’t really care about a game being cross gen if it looks better and is a great game.

Was titanfall not considered next gen? It was mostly associated with Xbox one ..the sequel doesn’t have dramatically better visuals or anything either

if halo ends up being great I won’t care or even associate it with Xbox one, it’ll obviously play way better on series x

That was great, makes the fact I can't get a ps5 slightly easier to bare as there is literally fuck all currently out there and in that show that even interests me, fuck I may end up buying this thing when TLOU3 releases at this rate...

Ah well I'll continue to plow through my back catalogue, this witcher3 game everyone wouldn't fuck up about is some craic...

It's going to be many years before developers leave behind 100+ million users who play on ps4 and xbox one. A shortage of new consoles and pc parts will slow this further than normal. A digital Xsx woukd have been nice, but it doesn't fit the long term goal of the s - a true entry level priced machine sooner rather than later. S will be $249 or $199 soon enough, and they will sell like hotcakes.

See, that is MS’s goal which you seem to be making your own ($199 soon is your hope and wishes though, not that realistic) but everything as pros and cons, the cons is that it ties the generation down and there is plenty of space to sell hundreds of million consoles at a much higher price (there is Xcloud + GamePass anyways right anyways ;)?). See your PS4 example you were just quoting.

I agree that the transition is happening slower than it should have gone in normal times, so we will see a bit more cross generation fames mixed with PS5 exclusives.

The cheaper digital only XSX would have still expanded the more cost conscious audience ($349 at launch would have been doable for the 512 GB variant) and allowed a unified target for developers targeting XSX titles which would have meant better games for you and lower costs for devs. You are arguing against that...

Still absolutely no word on anything TLOU2 related. My personal theory of no one willing to work at ND anymore is becoming more and more likely by each passing day.

They can't even patch it to run at 60 fps on PS5, the only First Party studio that didn't leave a game be like 6 years ago to do so. (Bloodborne, Last Guardian, no others come to mind, and in the case of Last Guardian you can run it at 60 if you own the disc) Let alone copying the Multiplayer from 1, let alone anything beyond that lol.

I don't wanna be that guy, but that's absolute dog shite.. no matter what you read about ND and their work practices or how you feel about their woke Level, they are one of the best game studios around and i imagine for everyone that is burnt out either through crunch or politics there's probably about 100 applicants ready to fill that spot. They're no different than any other big mainstream studio ffs and who wouldn't want to work for the best or have their game on your CV.

As for the rest of your comment, yeah i agree a 60fps/4k patch for TLOU2 & Uncharted4 would be nice but these things take time and that patch will come with the release of MP, ND polishes the fuck outa their games and releases when ready, they ain't no CDPR, EA, Ubisoft ffs

Nah. They’re likely going big with the multiplayer, and any PS5 patches are probably going to be rolled into that announcement to garner a big splash.

Obviously I was being slightly hyperbolic, but you can't deny ND has slowed down to a crawl. TLOU1 launched with MP, as did UC4. And a 60fps patch in all honesty is a trivial matter since all games are backwards compatible by default.

No excuse IMO for the radio silence.

You can ad Returnal. This game is impressive. I can't believe how people are dismissing it. Same for five night at Freddy's.

I'm not surprised but damn, some people on here really overreact. The State of Play set out what it was gonna do before the show, and it it delivered on that. It gave some more in-depth looks into upcoming games that we had seen before along with a few new announcements like Sifu, Knockout City and FFVII. I know Knockout City was shown at Direct but still a new game for Playstation.
Of course the pandemic has played a part in slowing down development on new games but I think they've been showing games like Deathloop and Returnal multiple times to increase hype and interest in the games. They must be focus group testing those games like crazy and see that people generally aren't getting what those games are. Deathloop is still kinda hard to know what the game actually is, even if it has the Arkane DNA. Dishonored wasn't for me and Deathloop probably won't be either but I did dig the 60s aesthetic they showed off. Same with Returnal, I was pretty uninterested when I saw that it was a rogue-like but recent showings has started to turn me around as it seems there's still some heavy story elements to it.
All in all, decent showing. Kena and Solar Ash look great. Abe's Odyssey being free on PS+ is a nice bonus, although was expecting some PS+ March announcement as they held off on that news on Wednesday.

But in a sens TLOU2 was super huge, like too huge and too long for its genre, i felt like i played 2 games in 1 game which i don't feel usually. If you see what i mean.

I don't think it would have mattered much, ms is making pc games for most of thier games anyhow, a third skew isn't/didn't change much for most developers, especially with it being a single closed platform with a ton of similarities. (Cpu, ssd, similar gpu features)

The thing is that a week ago some guy named Hermen Hulst was saying Ragnarok is his most anticpated game of 2021, so people though if gow2 is guaranteed coming this year there is good chance it will be shown in sop, and so there is even more chance for HZ2 to be shown.

That's a pretty bold assumption. You can always hope they'll show those games but people can't get mad if they don't. Especially when Sony weren't hyping the event up. They didn't tell people this was an event they wouldn't want to miss exactly.

Crash’s repeated boasting about 4k60fps didn’t seem all that impressive for an unspectacular looking PS4 port on a console that brags about 8k and 4k120fps on the front of its box.

Of course 4k60fps is more than fine but Sony found a way to make me feel underwhelmed about everything.

My "A" was somehow a reaction to Returnal and FinalFantasy VII, more than rating the general Show, otherwise I would have said B, like you. I was impressed by Returnal, graphics and art design are stellar, and finally we get something new, I'm so bored of the same gameplay mechanics over and over again. And nobody talk about Returnal...I don't care, I like it a lot and I'm excited about this one.
And what about Final Fantasy VII ? It looks like a Remaster of a remake plus a brand new episode. It looks so much better than the PS4 remake, I was impressed, and I didn't play it on PS4, so it's a Day One for me.
Can you imagine what PS5 The Last of Us Part II will look like ? And Naughty Dog Next Game ?
By the way, I also liked Kena, Crash4, Oddworld, and Security Breach, so cool :D

Almost 100% agreed (I'm not a fan o Five Night at Freddy's, that's why).
B for the show in general, but A for Kena, FFVII R, Returnal.

Tbf to ND their last game was like last year, come on man.. they just released a massive blockbuster of a game that probably took a fucking toll on them, so you need to give them time, they owe us fuck all and when they're ready to start singing they will, done get me wrong m8 i cannot fucking wait to see what they've planned next outside of the patches and TLOU2 MP but i know we ain't getting details of that for a year or two at least... besides ND pop these things out every 3-4yrs go look at the last time you heard anything about Elder Scrolls...

Maybe they took queues from Xbox Inside shows because it was a boring shit, nothing new or even remotely exciting came out of this SOP.

No news equals a negative for some. They’re used to overhyped, over promised and under delivered process. There’s a HUGE difference between intended release dates that are delayed due to covid and missing a console launch date of your mascot game by a year (so far) because of ineptitude. Series x packaging proves that.

The show was alright. SIFU, Kena, Solar Ash, Deathloop, Returnal, and FF7R were my standouts. That said, closing with FF7R was a bit underwhelming, because it's really not a significant makeover. Yeah, the game looks amazing on the PS4, but I expected them to give it a more thorough rework for the PS5. At this point, I don't know if there's a reason to buy the PS5 version, if you can just get the PS4 version on PS+. 60fps is not important for an RPG, and we can assume that the framerate will be stable in BC mode for the PS4 version. It might be one of the few PS4 games that graces my PS5, as FF7 was one of my favorite RPGs ever.

I wonder if the disappointment some people feel is due to the lack of blockbuster next-gen games being shown at these events. There really hasn't been any big splash since last Summer's console reveal. HFW and GOW are games people want to see. Hell, throw me a GT7 bone too. But I can only assume that the trailers for those games are waiting for Summer, when they'll have more polish than a February show during a period where demand still outstrips supply. When that demand starts to slow, give it an extra kick with the heavy hitters.

Anyway, I'm glad I didn't stay up for it. I didn't expect anything monumental, and I was right. Got to finish Season 4 of Sons of Anarchy instead, which was more than worth it. 3 more seasons to go.

Agreed 100%. This is the way.

I'm not getting the cross-gen games messing up the next-gen capabilities mindset. This isn't much of a problem. I think a lot of people get the idea from the old PS3/PS2 days where the hardware was custom tailored for an exclusive. Those days are gone. We are all looking at upgraded PS4s/Xbox1s. The games will still look leagues better than the old gens' iteration regardless.

is anyone excited for that game?

feel like i seen that game more times than i have played some games, they are just shoving it in our faces over and over again while not showing us anything interesting
Unless they give it away on PS+ that shit is going to tank at $70.

Might as well wait and try it out on Game Pass next year and save the cash.

So everyone is bored with Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot and to a lesser extent Oddworld are they? Franchises that were synonymous with PS1, and no doubt were these Nintendo franchises of a similar age people would be creaming in their jeans even though they are "just" platformers and RPG's.

Add on top completely new IP's in Returnal and Deathloop (how many times over the last gen did the competition put out two new IP's in a quarter ?), and a sprinkling of really visually strong indies like Sifu and Solar Ash... doesn't seem like a bad showing for late feb, 4 months out from a platform launch during a global pandemic!

People need to adjust their expectations because, I'm sorry, but the reality is that games these days take 2-4 years to make. Noone's going to pull a load of hitherto unseen product out their ass for every minor show because its a logistical impossibility to create that much content.

Especially as what these showcases present isn't close to comprehensive, these aren't the only titles launching over the next 6 months, not even close.
Switch and Xbox getting two new IPs in a quarter really isn't that rare. It's not like Deathloop is a Sony published game.
Splatoon 3, Skyward Sword and Miitopia remasters, Triangle Strategy (new game from Octopath Traveler team), Mario Golf Super Rush, Knockout City was first revealed there.

Nothing mind-blowing, but I feel there were more substantial reveals there than here.
Samurai Warriors 5 too (plus that superhero game that looks terrible).
