A lot of these games are ps4 and ps5, and yet series s is blamed for "ruining" next gen. Just goes to show you how much bs that is.

Kena looks amazing regardless.
The story of returnal is starting to look a bit more interesting.

are you really that dense?

Cross-gen is and always has been a thing. PS4 and XBO limited the vision of some PS5/XSX games at launch and will continue to do so throughout 2021.

XSS will still be holding games back in 2026

Switch and Xbox getting two new IPs in a quarter really isn't that rare. It's not like Deathloop is a Sony published game.

Samurai Warriors 5 too (plus that superhero game that looks terrible).

I beg to differ on that. Name some, bearing in mind the caveats that such new IP's must have some form of exclusivity deal attached and be sold full-price at retail. Because, to be fair, lumping in smaller/indie titles just muddies the waters.

I wasn't really thinking of Switch either as its a slightly different situation due to Nintendo's platform being somewhat isolated from everything else technologically, making direct porting less common and elevating the likelihood of platform-specific variants. That being said, you can't really argue that Nintendo themselves are very conservative in their output so as to ensure that a new IP created by them is a major event.

The show was alright. SIFU, Kena, Solar Ash, Deathloop, Returnal, and FF7R were my standouts. That said, closing with FF7R was a bit underwhelming, because it's really not a significant makeover. Yeah, the game looks amazing on the PS4, but I expected them to give it a more thorough rework for the PS5. At this point, I don't know if there's a reason to buy the PS5 version, if you can just get the PS4 version on PS+. 60fps is not important for an RPG, and we can assume that the framerate will be stable in BC mode for the PS4 version. It might be one of the few PS4 games that graces my PS5, as FF7 was one of my favorite RPGs ever.

I wonder if the disappointment some people feel is due to the lack of blockbuster next-gen games being shown at these events. There really hasn't been any big splash since last Summer's console reveal. HFW and GOW are games people want to see. Hell, throw me a GT7 bone too. But I can only assume that the trailers for those games are waiting for Summer, when they'll have more polish than a February show during a period where demand still outstrips supply. When that demand starts to slow, give it an extra kick with the heavy hitters.

Anyway, I'm glad I didn't stay up for it. I didn't expect anything monumental, and I was right. Got to finish Season 4 of Sons of Anarchy instead, which was more than worth it. 3 more seasons to go.

For me the disappointment is purely due to the fact that I STILL feel like I'm waiting to see what next gen graphics are really going to be like.

We're nearly 9 months on from the first game reveals and in terms of proper next gen gameplay I've seen:

Ratchet
Demon's Souls
Destruction Allstars

For whatever reason and despite the general reaction, DS never impressed me that much. I think Destruction Allstars is technically very decent but the art style really obscures a lot of that fidelity.

So really, in terms of proper, AAA, from the ground up next gen gameplay that gives me a real sense of what's possible, I'm still left with just 10 minutes or so of Ratchet & Clank footage.

It really feels beyond a joke now. I just want to know what next gen games look like in gameplay. Is that so much to ask?

All I can really take from the SOP on that score is the snippets from Kena. And yes, that does look fantastic. But it's a cross gen game made by a tiny indie studio: it's hardly likely to be a real representation of what's possible.

So I'm just frustrated, really.

But in isolation I thought the show was ok.

Oddworld being free for PS Plus members is great. Solar Ash looked way better than I expected. Kena looks amazing. Returnal looks the best I've seen it look. I'm excited to play Crash 4 and FFVII at some point.

But I can't deny I wanted more.

This means that the game will also come to xbox platforms?
Potentially, Microsoft owns the games and the IP now so I guess it depends on the terms and conditions

Ah yes if you're talking full-price retail exclusive new IPs then there's not much on Xbox I can think of.

I don't think Nintendo is quite as conservative as you say though. 2020 was shit for them but in 2019 they published Astral Chain, Daemon Ex Machina and Ring Fit Adventure all in a two month period.

Awesome. I hope for a full scale approach on this since I really think that this kind of games should be played by all the action stealth gamers around the world and in more platform has possible. Regardless if it was sony, microsoft or nintendo console

I was somewhat in the same boat... but play Demon's Souls for like 40 hours, then play Dark Souls 3 right after. The difference will smack you in the face.

That's because From Software games are always very ugly.

But the Demon's Souls remake isn't a From game in terms of technology. The relevant comparison is other big first party Sony games, both on PS4 and PS5.

I mean, I think it looks good enough that it definitely couldn't be done on PS4, and obviously the 60fps is another great improvement, but imo it doesn't look anywhere near as good as Ratchet or even Kena.

Same. I really enjoyed Dishonoured and Prey so this game should be good too.

I don't understand why Sony and Nintendo included Knockout City in their digital events. EA must be great extorting.

Regarding Oddworld, Returnal and Deathloop, we saw them too much times. If they have more trailers, please don't include them in events like this one and instead release them directly on the PS Blog and in the PlayStation youtube channel.

Let's hope they don't waste more time with this game when there are other ones like Guilty Gear Strive, Ratchet, Little Devil Inside or Resident Evil 8 (and maybe Jett or Stray) for this same period and aren't included. I understand why GoW and Horizon weren't included here: because they are saving them for the E3/summer stream, more focused on H2 2021 games and a couple of big 2022 AAA exclusive game announcements and maybe updates on GT7, FFXVI or Project Athia.
