A TikToker has shared a wild theory about the afterlife, which not only attempts to explain what happens when you die, but also why we sometimes experience déjà vu.

Brandon Monhollen (@brandonmonhollen) responded to a question posed by another TikTok user, who asked: "What's a conspiracy theory that absolutely blows your mind?"

In his video, Monhollen detailed a theory he'd read about recently which he found 'seriously intriguing', saying in the caption he hoped it 'gains some traction'.
He said: "I'm not exactly sure if this is a conspiracy theory but, I read this about six months ago.

"What if when we die, the light at the end of the tunnel is the light to another hospital. There we are born, and the only reason you come out crying is because you remember everything from your past life and you're crying at the fact that you died and lost everything.

"As you grow and start to forget your past life, and you focus on the life that you have now, patches of memory stay behind and that memory causes déjà vu."

The video has since racked up more than 530,000 views and 25,000 likes in the space of a day.

While some social media users remained unconvinced by the idea or said it sounded like an episode of Black Mirror, others admitted they 'don't hate' the theory and felt it 'makes sense'.
One person commented: "Whooooooa dude!!! I think that's the most sense anyone has ever made!!!"

Someone else clearly found it pretty mind-blowing, adding: "Did you have to... omg... not going to sleep for a week."

Some also attempted to pad out the theory, with one writing: "And that's the reason why we have certain anxieties or fear of something is because of our past lives."

Another suggested: "I believe in God but maybe if u haven't been bad enough for hell or good enough for heaven so he keeps sending u back till the last judgment lol."

As for the side note about déjà vu, another TikTok user - who just so happens to be a doctor - believes there may be a simpler explanation.

In a recent video, Dr Karan Raj explained: "It's a glitch in your brain. It's when a new short term memory gets accidentally stored in the long term memory - so it feels like it's happened before, because our brain is telling us it's an old memory."

He added: "It's just sloppy admin by your brain."

It's no more wilder than thinking you ascend up to a cloud and meet with Saint Pete, or you descend into the fiery bowels to be tortured by the cloven hooved one for all eternity.

Religions are fucking wild. I know a lot of them aren't represented here because THIS IS A CHRISTIAN NATION, but you can check out the community thread about Christianity. There's some weird shit that people still believe with no justification or proof at all.

I've had a think about something similar in the past. When we are unconscious, from our perspective we time travel. I go to sleep and nearly instantly wake to the new day (or however long I sleep for). From my perspective, I've travelled through time nearly instantly. I assume this is how stasis will work if in the future we ever have to go into cold storage for long journeys through space or something.

So based on that, what if when we die and our consciousness 'switches off' we basically sleep through the remainder of what we perceive as time and we loop back upon it and are born again as ourselves to play out our lives again. From our limited perspective, this would happen near instantly. Minor changes through the chaos of the universe might mean we aren't even born in certain loops, but that won't matter as we aren't conscious to perceive it. Many loops may pass, it won't matter. We then learn from every loop (or don't, it ultimately doesn't matter). Constantly looping through time.

Ok i mean its possible but I highly doubt it

How would your conciousness transfer to an unborn baby while still in the womb?

Unborn babys have a conciousness right?

I mean, yeah, except the big difference is, when you are asleep your body is still producing electrical impulses, and when you're dead, it doesn't.

That's ultimately irrelevant too. Energy takes many forms and it never goes away. It just changes form into something else. We don't know enough about the actualities of time space and energy to say we are just the matter than makes us, us. How we perceive is all we know. What I'm saying is of course completely just a thought experiment. I'm in no way of the opinion this actually happens. It's just a cool (to me at least) little theory. I'm also in no way religious or anything, I don't believe in a soul or anything.

so how would that explain more people being born now than 50 years ago? they aren't reincarnations. in the 1950s the world population was about 2.5b, now it's close to 7.7b. so by his terms, some people are reincarnated and others new?

what happens if a plague kills off more than half the population, what then? you just float around and wait for a body? doesn't make sense, sorry.

is this some sort of religious thing, like heaven, is basically the reset button and you get to try again? sorry you died, you were good, here's another body, try again.

I personally think there is more of a chance that none of this exists and it's all a simulation, although that does also open up the can o'worms that is, well who made the simulation, but every theory has it's "well who made x" moment.

But yeah, it's nice to think about these things, but when your dead, your dead (IMO)

If time loops the energy of the universe that makes up you (be it matter, or some other energy we can't perceive), it will always make up you on each loop that the energy is used to make you, you. It's not some vessel you just happen to drop into randomly. Every loop that chaos decides you are to be you, will be you. Then you will add to the chaos of causality that loop. If the parameters deem the energy that makes up you doesn't make you this loop....it doesn't and it's used somewhere else. It's all bullshit, but I like it.

It's all bullshit thre is no afterlife, no light at the end of the tunnel and all that crap which worried people are asying, it's all religious non-sense, there is nothing. The end

Seeing all the anti-religion replies in this thread has me curious. Why do you people immediately jump on religion re: this story? This is just some stoned moron. This has nothing to do with religion. Lol the anti religion bigotry is some powerful stuff.

Also i love "Religions are full of shit, only I know what happens after you die" wow who made you guys experts? Yes I'm going to ignore cultures that stood for thousands of years and listen to some rando on the internet. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

His response would be something stupid like all creatures are a zero sum game in reality, and the extra human lives were once ants.

People questioning what happens when you die and what you feel are looking too hard for answers. When people go to sleep at night, you are still alive, but can feel nothing except hearing the alarm clock go off in the morning.

So if you're dead, you definitely will feel nothing too with the difference being you wont wake up if an alarm goes off.

Well no, because you have ingrained fear of death and people respect no matter believe are afraid of it, but when you experienced it and came back...you find peace in a sense that it's normal. Maybe we should try to make the world heaven and not expect that suddenly after death, there is this paradise or eternal punishment. It's more like you have one shot, so why not make best of it.

Would it make a difference if it was?
Well yeah. You're saying things about Christianity without using the sole basis for its beliefs, while implying they're doctrinal.

Just making sure you know whoever you heard those things from is wrong.

Sure, buddy. Any explanation for how populations can increase or decrease?

There's a reason people want to believe in the afterlife; a universal fear of death.
No doubt. Also, human nature where people think they can outsmart mother nature. Whether it's after life or teleporting to another planet in Star Trek, it's a human thing think of this shit.

I've spent more time thinking about a will more than what happens to my body when I kick the bucket.

I expected some profound insight, not some c-tier reincarnation bullshit.

"Babies cry because they remember everything from their past life" is so stupid I don't even know where to begin. Stop smoking weed bro.

See even you forgot your past life when you used to be a chinese drug dealer that got shot by a white police man.

Dont blame others that you cant remember your past life due to escaping the next womb

That whole "light at the end of the tunnel" thing is something that can be recreated through passing out from extreme g-force, such as that in astronaut training.

Anyway, some dorky looking guy's generic stoner thoughts isn't very interesting but I guess for the type of people on TikTok it is...

You'll just listen to shit about cultures that have stood for "thousands of years" and believe they're true because they've been around for a while? So Islam is the correct religion then? Or was it the Greeks and all of their gods. I'm legit curious what the opinions around here are from Christians in regards to other religions and their beliefs, and the fact that the source material from those three religions is some amazingly wild fiction.

Evidence, Larry.

Most theistic 'religions' can be broken into two groups; polytheistic paganism (which is why Greek, Roman, Norse, etc, all share common similarities) and the God of Israel. Thinking of it that way dramatically cuts down on the number of religions.

I believe in an absolute truth, meaning only one is 'correct.' That's a tough thing to sell though, without knowing more about your own perception on it. What characteristics would you think a 'correct religion' should have? Do you think a pantheon on gods who don't care about humankind makes more sense than a benevolent Creator? Do you think that entity would care more about following systematic rituals or an earnest worship/faith/relationship? Those are just a couple example questions. I'm curious what your opinion is.

This. Fiction. I can get behind some of the messaging of religion, but when the entire thing is based on a lie it's impossible to take it's messengers seriously.
