I guess we are in the big suck right now huh?

What is the big suck? A long period of time with no new content (games), sparse gaming news, and delays caused by covid. I've noticed it with movies, tv shows and now games. The next year seems pretty bleak, and who knows how long it will take industries to recover. Just pray the few bits of content we get are good.

Indie devs...now is your time to shine.

I feel the same. Nothing really great anywhere on the horizon so I think I’m going to have to look through the catalogue of stuff I didn’t play over the last gen to see if there is anything that appeals. Not much does though.

Yup, glad I am back on PC. Lots of stuff I have missed to play. Wish BF6 was out though, need a good shooter as Tarkov is going downhill fast.

Yup. I got into Final Fantasy XIV at the right time, cause there is absolutely nothing else out there for the foreseeable future and I already burned through my backlog last year.

Perfect time to join this community thread and work through your backlog or revisit old favourite without the distractions of new releases

I guess.

But I don't know how some of you get to play all the stuff that gets released. I play an hour or two almost every day and even just looking at the past year I still have a ton of stuff to catch up with:
Yakuza 7, 13 Sentinels, Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, Ori, Disco Elysium (or was that 2019?), Miles Morales, Tony Hawk 1&2 HD.

Gaming news is usually pretty sparse around these times. I recall always hoping to hear news at GDC and then nothing really happening. The whole big releases at start of the year is also relatively new and is usually just carryover of games delayed that were originally targeted for fall release. Next year only seems bleak because more and more companies adopt the talk about a game closer to release. If a game is coming next year expect a lot of details such as a release date closer to release (I.e not the start of this year).

I feel like there’s stuff getting announced all the time. There’s pretty much one game a month coming out on ps5 from April. Cinema movies have dried up but there’s plenty of good tv shit to watch.

Gaming and digital content in general is booming. Just cuz a bunch of games are getting delayed doesn't mean the industry is suffering. Quite the contrary.

Not really. Still some things coming out, and my backlog after the second half of last year is huge.

If you think a "big suck" exists, then your gaming tastes are likely too narrow.

There literally isn't a time of the year in which great games aren't released and relevant reveals aren't made, unless western AAAs are all one cares about, in which case, the problem is on their side.

Maybe for you.

March may look a little dry, but I just got through solid games like Ys 9 and Hitman 3. I have Bravely Default 2 and Persona 5 Strikers waiting in the wings. April is a bone again with Guilty Gear and some others.

It’s a little dry, but there’s still plenty of worthwhile releases for the first half of 2021.

True I guess. But we are getting ports of game in other platforms. But either way plenty of game this year either first party or ports or some third party.
Either way I’m sure a backlog or some free online game can pass the time or read a book.

If you bought a PS5 expecting new games... then signs point to yes.

Yes. I would expect around 16-18 months until we are back to where we should be in terms of gaming release intervalls and quality of next gen graphics.

Perfect time to finish your backlog now, because we are getting Xbox One and PS4 games for a little while and the 9/10s and 10/10s will be so rare that the Nintendo Switch will be considered the best console for 6 consecutive years.

yeah lots of delays to Covid...

however, only two months for the release of Resident Evil VILLAGE🧟‍♂️ i have faith its gonna end up one of the greatest survival horror games ever, the real sequel to Resident Evil VII :messenger_beaming:

I dunno, there are a lot of interesting remakes of games that are fairly obscure or add content (like Blade Runner and SaGa Frontier) this year, RE8 and TWO FUCKING EDF GAMES, so overall I'm ok with it. A lot of good shit came out recently I haven't even gotten to (Ys IX), and there is definitely a lot in the backlog to work through on top of that.

Good year to clear the deck because something tells me 2022 is gonna be nuts.

Im looking forward to Kena, Skyward Sword, Resident Evil 8, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, Disgaea 6.
And some more indies like Sports Story, Little Devil inside.

Hopefully there will be more Zelda games with the 35th Anniversary collection etc.

Im going through some games I have yet to play too like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Days Gone, Spiderman etc so Im good with the PS5 and Switch

Its a better year than 2014 for me for sure

AAA is an absolute snoozefest, but fortunately there's plenty happening in the AA-sector at the moment.

Valheim, of course, the behemoth that just passed 5 million sold copies. Breathedge, Doorkickers 2, Blasphemous additional content. Or even "older" stuff like Subnautica, Euro Truck Simulator DLC and Flight Simulator.

It's mostly thanks to the availability of BC on the new consoles, but this drought doesn't feel nearly as bad as the one at the beginning of last gen, where most game releases were previous gen ports of games I already played.

At least this time we can go through our backlogs on newer hardware

To be honest I appreciate a bit of a drought right now, it helps with my backlog. I'm doing fine completing game after game for my Xbox One and PS4. Resident Evil Village will be my next purchase but that's in May.

Not for me, I'm currently enjoying the crap out of Bravely Default 2 and after that I have Monster Hunter Rise to look forward and after that I have NieR Replicant 1.22.

Lol only lazy People blame covid. Since working from home I've been more busy. AWS deployments and other projects keep rolling in other industries. Just sound's like people making games can't work for home without a manger breathing down their neck. Funny how useless people get when no one is watching.
