Replacement PS5 has coil whine worse than the first

Try this,

Let us know if it helps.

I don't like that it's on customers to fix PS5 noise issues. I thought one of the biggest things that was going to be addressed was console noise. I guess they substituted loud fans for coil whine which for me is worse. I wish they would have taken more care; there were solutions available when the consoles were built.

I think they put the effort into cooling more than noise reduction. Probably the right decision overall.

Sony consoles have always been like this, they have to cut corners to get price down, we have put pressure on sony not to cut corners, i would rather pay £50 more for better hardware, then have noisy consoles.

People are paying hundreds more than msrp for them just the way they are. Your 50 won't change anything.

Right decision is what Microsoft did. An excellent console in terms of noise, heat dissipation and material quality.
7-10% fault rate though and a controller that disconnects.

Please, be serious. Series X is on a different level compared to PS5.
I have both consoles, to be clear. Ps5 plastics are shit, Series x's ones are way better. Play 5 is huge and is affected by coil whine, Series X is small and is perfectly quiet.

I threw my ps5 out a window because of this thread.
go go go fml GIF

You know it doesn't work that way.

:messenger_winking_tongue:

I do not endorse anyone jumping out of a window. It can cause serious injury or death

I invented the thread and article I linked I guess.
I am not interested at reading that topic.
It is objective PS5 has shitty plastic and coil whine. Moreover, depending on fan your console has, you can have noise as well.
Last but not least, Ps5 pad are also affected by hardware problems since triggers tend to break by themselves after hours of usage.

If series X is so superior, shouldnt you be playing it and its huge assortment of quality 1st party titles? Oh wait.... I guess id be here in a thread too trolling a PS5 thread if i had nothing to play either

You also have to take into account that Frank has lots of commentary on the Xbox but doesn't actually know much about it and I'm pretty sure he doesn't own one either. You have to consider the credibility of the person talking. He DOES know about the pound of flesh MS will take from its customers so I do appreciate his warnings.

No issues with both my series x consoles.....on their other side I have already returned 1 dual sense controller due to the left stick drifting.....the other controller r2 trigger is starting to wobble

I feel sony really make some great decisions on specs and features but spend no actual time in testing these in real world settings

You could say the same about Series X since polls show 7 to 10 % default rate.

You believing GAF polls on Xbox? C’mon

Sony guys talking about exclusives when we are talking about different things. Usual stuff. When in 2-3 years Ms will have also higher number exclusives you'll talk about what? 😊
Do not be so angry guys, Sony decided to save money assembling consoles, while Ms did not follow the same path.
Just accept it. It is not a case that on YouTube there are plenty of videos about how to fix the PS5 noise.
And when you send Ps5 back to Sony for warranty, all they can do is to send same console back to you, with the same problem in most cases.

Well either console to be fair.
Ya you’re right. But we can’t deny the fact that this place leans more to Sony. Well most places do because they have a larger fan base. But I wouldn’t be taking polls on Sony hardware serious on a more Xbox favoured forum.

Is the quality of Sony games supposed to go down?

Well that's Microsoft's fault not Sonys. If you want the fanbase to be larger then Microsoft has to find a way to make their system more popular. Once they do that the forums should also see a shift.

I know but I'm just pointing out it's not the sites fault. Poles will be manipulated and won't he accurate. That goes for both systems BTW.
It does go for both systems. But hearing a lot of complaints about Apple on an Apple based forum means more then hearing complaints about Apple on a Samsung focused forum. You get me?

But EviLore EviLore made this site to be a gaming forum not a PlayStation focused one. It's user base is defined by the structure of the gaming fanbases.
Yes I’ve already agreed to that. My point still stands. I’m not sure what your confused about? I’ve never said this site is not welcome to every type of gamer. It obviously has more Sony fans then anything else. Always has since I can remember. There’s no denying that.

Not sure why you tagged EL though...

I'm confused when you used examples of focused sites when this one isn't like that. I thought you were saying that Neogaf was a PlayStation focused site. You know the typical Sonygaf claim.

I guess that was a bad example. But it obviously leans more to PS. Which is mostly due to market share.

That I can agree with. I'll never agree with the theory that this site is run by Sony though. I know you're not saying that but I've seen a few people make those claims.

Yes, it's on a different level, one level lower in performance, games and features (haptics, triggers) compared to PS5. My PS5 is perfectly quiet by the way.
Make a video of yours quiet when you have the time. I’ve seen plenty and none were quiet. Some less quiet than others but never fully quiet. It’ll give me hope.

My only PS5 issue is the hourly disc spin. And once it does its deafening alarm call, it continues to spin, albeit at a much lower cycle, so it just sort of hums, and does so until the disc is ejected. Any kind of disc-based game is ruined by it. I tried the manual eject fix as recommended by Sony, but it had no effect.

They absolutely, 100% need to patch this, more than anything else, and soon. It's a great console, a terrific improvement over PS4, but this one issue is so bad that it's starting to make me feel like I made a mistake buying it.

In case anyone was wondering how widespread coilwhine is, I have quite a bit of experience with it myself, 5 different PlayStations I've owned (I've owned a total of 6, I didn't include the Nidec fan PS5 I owned for equal comparison of coil whine).

My brother also has a PS5 and he got super lucky, as his unit is the quietest PS5 I've heard.

There's been a lot of issues with the PS5 and I'd like to elaborate on some of these issues.

1. The fan bearings. Yes I would even put this above coil whine. Most people complaining about coilwhine, it's not that loud y'all. The fan bearing can noticeably ruin the sound of your console during all scenarios though. I've had 4 PS5s with the NMB fan, 1 with a Nidec, and 1 with a Delta. Of all the NMB fans 3 of them had bad bearings (making either a noticeable squeal or squeaking sound) and it only gets worse when it spins faster. 1 of them (my current console) was perfect and had no squeaking, squeal or grumbling. I can't believe how bad some of those fans sounded and they were all manufactured by the same damn company.

2. The design of the plates on the side of the console. They are just too many random issues they cause. Some of them vibrate and cause buzzing sounds of their own (different from coil whine) and it just ends up feeling cheap and tacky.

3. Coilwhine (of course). This is an issue but from all of the consoles I've owned, they don't actually range that much. The average console measured at 36-38 decibels. My brother's PS5 (the quietest I've ever seen even on all of youtube or any medium) measured at a whipping 35 decibels. It's not the sound that's the issue, really it's the CHANGING OF THE PITCH that's so annoying. If it was a constant hum at 38 decibels no one would complain, but because of the pitch that's always changing it can really bug some people. The only thing Sony needed to do was splat on some anti vibration silicone and call it a day, that would have resolved 99% of these issues with the coil whine. They could have gone with a higher volt capcitor too, but I don't think that matters as much as the silicone (same type of capacitors are in the Series X, the goo makes all the difference).

4. The glossy black. After the PS3 and PS4 you'd think Sony would have learned their lesson and just make the fuckin thing matte, but no they had to make it glossy and a dust magnet. This urks the shit out of me.
