Take-Two owner Strauss Zelnick argues players ‘are ready for $70 games’

i'm not yet ready for 60 euros/dollars tbh..that's why i seldom buy day one.

also, if that's the price to pay for no microtransactions or content carved out for dlc, it's a deal.

This is one of those things you shouldn’t even talk about. Just say this is are new pricing strategy and don’t try to justify it.

Except you can argue that the quality of games has never been shittier

You can argue anything. Buuuut...

Take today's games back 20, 30 years ago and the market would be floored by what we're playing today.

Release games from 20, 30 years ago today, and they wouldn't make a blip in the market.

People get old and lose interest in things. Gamings at it's zenith.

Zenith in terms of more anti-consumerism maybe, I mean there's tons of modern games I love. But taking both the bad and the good. The bad outweighs the good for the large majority of the time

Anti consumerism? Where?

All I see is a hyper competitive market with publishers trying to practically give games away. Epic Game Store, Steam Sales etc...

Maybe it's my lefty heart, however I just spin this inside my head and it makes me angry. Like imagine, with all that shit which is going on in the world, lockdowns and shit and some rich fuck says "oh they are ready to pay more", like are you even fucking real, the nerve of this guy.

Sorry for my libshit.

Never happening.

And honestly, they are going to get the money they want one way or another.

I told people whinging about season passes over a decade ago what would happen if they want away, they'd just change tack to get the same revenue by other means.
Same right now with loot boxes, you think minimizing them is going to magically get a better deal? LOL.

You don't fix a problem by dealing with the symptom. And right here, right now, the problem is that games cost a fortune to make.

So unless some mega-genius out there wants to provide a method of making modern games for the same sort of outlay that they were made 20-30 years ago, you need to get used to the idea of paying more as production costs increase.

Strength of game pass says otherwise. More people will pay 12 dollar subscription each month to play new games.

Microsoft model makes more sense, they just need to stop the loopholes where gamers will exploit it.
It won’t be $12 or $10 or $15 when the loophole stops. At least not long after. They’re not making all the zeni games exclusives and not going through with a gold increase without that money coming from somewhere. It’s inevitable

Holy crap a self conscious lefty, that's a rarity. I'd say the beauty of the free economy market is that you have the choice not to buy. When likeminded consumers reach a certain critical mass, something has to happen.

Ehh, I think in Europe people are way less radical with their political affiliation.

If they do go up on price, I’ll just wait till the game goes on sale. That’s it and simple. Go right ahead because I have patience.

'Ready' implies that there's some sort of benefit in the price increase
No it doesn’t. Ready means that people are generally willing to accept (by buying) and it won’t have a negative affect on the business. Being ready is not about increasing the price for consumer benefit. They already increase the benefit from games organically they just never raise prices and aside from that, aren’t even adapting to inflation.

I honestly find pricing in games in general not a simple topic.

I mean games like RDR2 and GOW are great and packed that those are worth 100$, meanwhile some other games like AC Odyssey or other Ubi or EA games are barely 40$ worthy, and the weird thing is that usually the shittiest games are always the ones that are packed with a 40 bucks season pass + a bunch of microtransactions.

In the end it's about how you value the games and how much you trust devs, i would buy full price 70$ Rockstar or Santa monica games because i know that those guys always deliver a pack quality game with no (or at least ultra minimum) bugs, i mean i may not like everything like story and all but the quality overall is usually worth it, i didn't liked GTA4 hardcore but it was still an awesome game overall and it's kind of game i just can't sell cause in the end it has something special, same with GOW ascension i know people hate it but i loved it even tho it was obviousely not best gow but it doesn't mean it was bad, but no fucking way i'll do same for some Modern Ubi game for example.

the peak of Ubisoft:

$70 for a sports game is insane. There are rarely any upgrades from the previous year. They can keep it. I'll buy it whens its 5 bucks next year

$70 dollars for a product that can give you anywhere between 20 hours and 3,000+ hours of high quality entertainment is unbeatable.

The idea that a $10 extra bucks ruffles some feathers here is baffling.

$70 dollars for Red Dead Redemption 2, I understand being pissed.

$70 would be fine for a full game.

We're gonna get just as much (or more) content sold seperately as mtx and dlc along with the price increase though.

I dont think ive seen anyone say theyre happy about it as a defence of sony.

I dont think ive seem anyone say theyre happy about it.
Theres been people saying they wouldn't mind it because its a low price for quality games from Sony on this very own forum.

I can't find the quotes now, but it was in the threads around the time Sony announced it.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable
Gamers always resist any kind of increase and normally I think they're pretty over the top about it.

This time £/$70 feels like a lot to me and frankly, I wouldn't pay it, but if games at that price came with a guarantee of no paid dlc and some season-type updates, I'd say it was fine.

It's perhaps more keenly felt as more purchases go digital. If prices did go that way, I'd be buying more physical games, trading them and waiting for discounts and sales.

Depends where you come from. In Scandinavia there's leftists getting hard on because they want communism for whatever reason.

There goes a Danish saying "a thief thinks everyone steals", which is quite fitting.
Yelling at how the big bosses cheats in taxes while they do criminal activities, sucks the welfare bank dry etc.

It's pretty insane in Scandinavia. Nice to hear its only here people are insane.

A rich asshole having a greedy opinion. Who would of thought? Rockstar needs to get off GTA 5'vs dick and make a GTA 6. It's nearing a decade since a new GTA!

I’m ready for £70 games where there is value. Demon’s Souls on PS5 - man, I would have paid £100 for that, and it would have still been value for money.

I feel like we've been playing the same shit since the 360/PS3.

GCN/PS2 had a healthy amount of "out there" games alongside your established IPs and AAA games.

Development is so expensive these days, we get the same shit over and over again.

Pompous millionaire who never has to worry about the concept of "Money" again for the rest of his life says that we are all "ready" to give him more money than we've already been giving him. Big yikes.

AAA yes.

AA no.

III no.

There are so many interesting/fresh games out there that don't recieve media attention because AAA brings the clicks.

There are probably way more "out there" games released today than there was 20 years ago. It's just that the attention is on games built by teams with 500, 1,000+ developers rather than games built by 20 people.

One of the reasons I refuse to buy games day 1.....Fuck that!
Call me a cheap bastard or whatever but I buy most games on discount a month or 2 later and it gives devs time to patch any bugs if needed.
$70 they be crazy when you get 2-3 games for that price if your patient

70$ without tax is laughable against the 80€ with tax we have to pay.

Just you know, 80€ post tax is equal to 96$

For some perspective pacman for the atari 2600 was 35 dollars, adjusted for inflation that is 100 usd, street fighter 2 snes was 80 adjust to 150 today, granted with carts, the media itself was expensive
I personally bought new neo geo games, those would have been pushing 500 600 hundred today
ps1 games we're 50 adjusts to 90 today, games are really cheap now
that said, I look forward to gta 5 at 70 being the top seller for the gen
Though oddly enough hardware is actually more expensive than anything successful except the earliest generations
Personally I rarely pay full price for anything so this is a blip in price for and I doubt the average consumer will care about the change, they were 50 for 2 gens, and now 60 for 2 gens

There shouldn't be a ceiling price on games.

Charge what your product can get.

If everything is priced like a Toyota Camry we're not going to get a Ferrari.

Only games i would buy at 70 are niche tittles, big blockbusters can fuck off.
The reasoning it's so stupid, you spend more money in "big games" because you are targeting a larger audience and not because poor dev or publisher cant gather the pennies to fund it.

Fucking clowns, i hope people don't eat it so we have a bunch of people speculating in a couple of years why are sales of new games so low.
