First Details on New PlayStation 5 VR controllers

The sony ones look more toy-ish to me with that big thing around the place where the buttons are, touch look a bit more elegant.

But yeah, i'm not gonna lose sleep to decide what controller look more bootleg...
It was the materials to me. The shiny plastic versus the matte. But again, hi-res renders never tell the whole tale.

Definitely a major upgrade over the stop-gap wands.

Errr...what??
See Jim Ryan and the denigration of PlayStation thread....

Examples: Games going to PC, downsizing Japan Studio, only 5 AAA studios making exclusives, are exclusives really exclusive anymore?, no memory expansion on ps5, no big PS5 UI updates yet, poor communication, no fan service, we believe in generation followed by games being cross gen, no response to MSFT buying studios. No Horizon ZD next gen patch, while they spent loads of time porting to PC. Lost big partners like Supermassive, Quantic dream and RAD. Lost spoort from Zenimax, Obsidian, Ninja Theory and all other srtudios bought by MSFT and have not informed PS users how they plan to make up for all of that......

Unconfirmed speculation that is probably true: Xbox have some type of deal with Kojima, meaning PlayStation lost him, No Bloodborne 2, Not one large acquisition seemingly on the horizon, a complete lack of strategy apart from trying to emulate xbox...... which is pathetic.

maybe he's not the only one to avoid that garbage speculation thread with a bunch of whining people expressing themselves as if they've somehow been personally slighted by Sony's so called promises. NO thank you.

Back on Topic.
Sony should approach Disney about a Canon single player Star Wars game for PSVR2. Say hook Insomniacs VR team up with LucasFilm and see what comes to pass.

I think he is saying that we haven't got VR on a powerful console (closed box meaning no PC API overhead people talk about) because the PS4 had a weak Jaguar.
Not sure it will make much of a difference but I do look forward to seeing PS5 only VR not held back by base PS4.

It will be absolutely huge. I frequent psvr reddit and have listened to devs. Dropping the development process for ps4 will greatly benefit developers. The console was a massive slug for VR which is dependent on high framerates.

These look dope! Huge jump from the Move. This gives me (even higher) hopes for PSVR 2.

Also that tidbit about it being tracked via the headset is interesting. I’m curious if this will even incorporate the PS cAmera at all.

trying to emulate xbox
Why in hell would Sony, the market leader in the console space, try to emulate Xbox? What is Xbox even doing that would be worth emulating? Because let me remind you that Microsoft just launched their next-gen consoles without new first-party games and by the time Microsoft starts releasing exclusive first-party software for their platform (be it Halo Infinite, Starfield or the rumored Forza Horizon 5), Sony would've released Astro's Playroom, Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, Sackboy, Destruction AllStars, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank and maybe even Horizon: Forbidden West - that's eight games in the first year of the PS5 without considering that they may have some TBA stuff like the TLOU multiplayer game for this year as well.

Looks great IMO. VR controllers will never look “cool” but I think they look nice. The color is interesting considering the PS5 as I figured they’d be white.

I’m really excited to see what they do with PSVR2. Hopefully the price is good too as I think that’s a big off of getting people on board. Without the need to process anything but the image I’m hoping it stays low.

Ignoring Japan and spending a lot on promoting PSNow and this new services focus is his push.

I doubt he had much to do with any of the games that came out in the last months.

I really hope PSVR2 is backwards compatible with PSVR. Emulating the move controllers really shouldnt take much effort.
This is the point I'd most like clarified. I have a ton of PSVR games and the hand tracking is far and away worst thing about the platform.

Being able to play existing PSVR games on v2 from day one would make this a day one must-buy.

Exactly, that's why I said that..
ignoring japan... i mean really? how many more Bombas you want them to release. most of the good things that came out of japan studios are from external sources (From and Ueda). i mean im more surprised it took this long. now lets see what they will say about japan studios. im hopeful that there is a change in like Santa Monica
but again thats just my opinion. these are business and if you know the most important thing for a business is to grow. that's why ms is in buying spree

I don't understand why Sony didn't make bands which attach hands to controller, like in Valve Index controllers, so you are able to fully unclench the palm to imitate something like throw/release of some object or waving and so on. Feels like big oversight since they have finger tracker in this thing,

Downsizing Japan studio.... okay. But nothing done to improve things for the Japanese or at least the worldwide audience?

Buy a Platinum, a Capcom or a stake in Capcom or Square or something........

Effectively PlayStation is a 5 studio first party, when you cut away the fluff. That's simply not enough...

Its clearly gonna have wrist straps like Oculus Rift has. But I doubt it will have a "hand strap" like Valve Index.

They mean the strap in the image a few posts above where it wraps around your hand so you can "let go" of gripping it fully.

Yeah I know. I said that I doubt it will have that, which the Index has. Maybe the sensor ring that wraps around the hand will suffice?

Or perhaps Sony or a 3rd party will just sell an accessory that will do the job.

If it comes down to it you could make your own strap fairly easy.

I don't like the design and I can def seeing this things flying around people's houses when whipping them hard

I believe it will launch in holiday... this year.
Why? Logistically it'd be a terrible decision; they've already said they aren't expecting PS5 shortages to improve until near the end of the year, and you want them to put out a VR headset when there won't be that many consoles in the install base yet to ensure decent adoption rates?

They gave a vague time frame of 2022; gonna assume it'll be 2022, H1 2022 (closer towards late Spring/early Summer) most likely.

Terrific - glad to see Sony have moved on from the PS Move controllers and the light-based tracking solution that was one of my issues with the PSVR. With that said, I had kind of hoped Sony would've moved past what everyone else was doing. They really pioneered a few intelligent innovations with the PSVR. These really do just look like less cool Oculus Touch controllers. Sony's "Orb" style wrap around isn't winning me over, whereas the Touch controllers have a simpler look, which I prefer.

Oh well - an improvement is an improvement. Can't wait to see the head set.
