Arkane Studios has been around for more than two decades and has developed software for every console generation since Arx Fatalis appeared on the original Xbox. Since then, the studio has supported the latest home console hardware. The team even brought the first Dishonored game, which originally launched on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, forward to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the enhanced Dishonored: Definitive Edition. Arkane clearly knows the benefits of developing new, more powerful hardware, which is evident in the studio's newest effort, Deathloop.

Arkane had back and forth discussions about how much it wanted to invest in taking advantage of the hardware's unique capabilities. "We made a choice to not go entirely crazy and pile up a ton of risks by, I don't know, somehow redoing all of our characters or something like that," game director Dinga Bakaba says.

Instead, Arkane used the added power to improve the experience that was already there. "Something we always wanted to have was a game that runs at 60 FPS on consoles," Bakaba says. "Former games on PS4 and Xbox One run at 40. Getting a nice framerate on home consoles and not only on PC was a nice goal."

The extra oomph also let the art team flex its muscles like never before. Normally, near the end of production, Bakaba says he has to go to the artists and deliver the bad news of having to slice some of the assets to make the game run smoother.

"We really like the features of the controller. We are all about immersion, and we are making a first-person shooter/action game. There's a lot of sense of using the haptic feedback and triggers, so that's something we were immediately excited about. It was a nice opportunity."

"First, best, or better on Xbox "

So due to contractual obligations, "first" is out of the question.

Really need to look up some gameplay. Haven't even seen much tbh.

Game looks super fun, and the more games that offer up options like haptic feedback or adaptive triggers the better.

Game looks like last gen trash. It's shocking to see them admit that they decided not to push visuals because they didn't want to take any risks.

Crazy how they are using 5x more gpu power and 7x more cpu power to just get a 20 fps boost.

No wonder arkane studios isn't revered by anyone. B studios get treated like b studios.

Like to hear this. Cant wait to see what this means.

Yeah it started development before the PS5 was in the picture, but still.

It will always seem better or best on Xbox to some ppl due to Game Pass, when it comes.

MS still wins.

At least they should be able to make a bunch of patches and tweaks during Sonys paid time.

Should be BaB by the time it releases on Xbox. 🤣

Am I alone to... hate this game ?
The artstyle, the music, the gameplay, the graphic... everything seems so repulsive. When I see trailers of this game during several conferences, I'm just bored to the death each time saying to myself "Is this going to end or not ?"

I just don't get it, I really loved previous Arkane games (Dishonored 1/2 + spinoff) but this one... 🤢

The announcement trailer did nothing for me and nothing I have seen since has changed my mind on it, hopefully they show whatever is supposed to hook me soon.

I think people who don't think this game is graphically impressive are just incapable of looking beyond an art style and actually appreciating the underlying fidelity.

This looks well beyond what the best games on PS4 produced, and at 60fps and a dynamic 4k. For me that makes it the most technically impressive next gen game yet.

Not quite as good as Ratchet, but much better than Returnal and Demon's Souls, and that recent Forspoken footage.

I guess they are still in the "plan phase" because we haven't seen anything in the trailers that justifies their claims.

Wow is it really a year? Fuck Sony and these deals. It's day one on PC, right? Guess I'll just play there and get murdered by KB/mouse users.

I want to like this game because I love arkane but this game just did not grab me from what I've seen and I'm disappointed

Let's hope, but honestly I would have preferred see them work on an Dishonored 3 at this point.

This game does not entice me at all. I've never really been a fan of Arkane's art style to begin with and nothing they've shown has made me remotely interested in it.

Those poor devs will never feel the same joy of developing for the DualSense and for the most performant console.

Surprised by the negativity from a lot of people around this game.

Personally, I think it looks and sounds like a fun concept. I hope it's as novel as they've made it sound in trailers. Like a fully fleshed out version of the Mooncrash DLC from Prey. A tight well designed set of levels with freeform objectives you have to figure out how to best solve. Like a giant puzzle. No idea how the MP aspect will tie in though.

The visuals aren't mind blowing but I've always enjoyed their artstyle, and this doesn't look to be an exception. I much prefer them spending time making a good polished game at 60 FPS rather than prioritising visuals and compromising on game design and performance.

The smell of the disaster it's inevitable. Maybe it ends being a good game, but I think it's impossible for this product to success.
Both Dishonored and Dishonored 2 are genuinely brilliant games, this dev hasn't made a bad game, Sony have seen this game and paid for an exclusive deal. You think they would do that for a "disaster" of a game? 😂

Personally I don't think it looks good at all (visually or from a gameplay perspective) but I also didn't care for Dishonored either so maybe it's a taste thing.
