Too bad the Resetera thread is closed. The thread over there about this game is Resetera at its absolute worst. Jeesus fucking Christ.
They have a new one now it’s describing the game as victimising war criminals and it’s full of people hoping the game bombs or presumably being banned for holding any other view. Also rami has a video on it where he nearly bursts into tears because Iraqis are being procedurally generated. Basically normal healthy discourse is happening all over!

And of you're not terribly outraged you are a vile piece of shit.

Iraq war propelled surge of modern militaristic FPS genre and I’m thankful it did (it was all WW2 before that). And all this war crime crying from Reeee seems so stretched, there really weren’t that many grave violations compared to other historic invasions and major wars (Abu Graib being the worst IMO). Pretext for the war was heinously wrong though, there is no doubt about that.

Still, it’s odd seeing this much resentment towards Iraq war now from far leftists. Nation was 60%+ for the war before it started, that’s all that matters. No one in the administration was going against popular will.

I would gladly buy the game if it turns out well.

I can see my comment will trigger some of the weak asses that can't see this for what it is.

Have you seen the latest army commercial? The one where the roles you can fill in the army are depicted as if you are some kind of Marvel Avengers or video game character. Why you think they went with those depiction?
Yup, you are triggered. Keep digging.

This looks like a game for me! The Rainbow Six Vegas games are some of my favorites ever and this looks like it could fill that void.

I don't mind procedurally generated missions. I don't really have respect for players that aren't good enough to take the game as it comes and win but who instead have to cheese the levels by counting how many steps to run from point A before shooting twice, ducking, and running x steps again to point B. It's cool to map out levels in dungeon crawlers or track a path in platformers or puzzle out a boss pattern in RPGs or souls games but this is war, dammit. No sissies allowed!

I dont even have a particular interest in this game myself, but its so ironic how this got cancelled years ago because of the fox news idiots making a controversy out of it and now its the far left idiots trying to get it re-cancelled lol. Time is a fucking circle, I swear...

Game shouldnt have been cancelled back in the day, nor should it be cancelled now. I kinda hope its sells a lot just on principle to piss of the right people at this point.

So far it looks good. Procedurally generated mission spaces could work well in keeping with a realistic, tense atmosphere, and to add to the replayability.

Looks like a great, immersive, and no nonsense game that gets straight to the point about putting you in the eyes of the men who fought in Fallujah. Good use of little or no music during those scenes, and the idea of every house being a potential death trap really sets the tone. To be honest, the way this trailer was created gives you more of a horror vibe than traditional FPS game. Sound effects seem pretty accurate and graphics are fine, I think a lot of people would like this game, specifically those interested in more unique military style games outside the usual COD titles and Battlefield games.

I don't expect it to sell like a flashy "AAA" COD title but I don't think that's the point of this game. Will definitely buy it when it releases. Seems like the developers are really putting genuine care into this game too.

I saw that people have created a petition on Twitter to try and cancel this.

I agree it's kind of strange seeing them lean so hard into the "realistic" aspect of all this when it's based on war. Maybe it's because this incident was... too soon?

Because in my mind, how is this any different than the previous "realistic" approaches that have been done with games that focused on WW1/2, Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc. I mean, people complained then, but not like they are not with Fallujah. Again, genuine question as I'm legitimately curious. Watching the video it looked no different than what we've seen other than being a "new" game, its tech, and the hard lean into realism.

I think the controversy is more related to how it is assumed that they will not be addressing the atrocities commited against Iraqis (in Fallujah) in general.

That footage looks pretty astounding, I guess we'll never get it on console and if we do it'll probably be a mess.

I wonder what specs the PC running that is.

Procedural generation in a game that's trying so desperately(bending over backwards) to remain true to the stories of the men seems EXTREMELY disingenuous, I mean anyone can get a google sat map of the area, sure you could spice it up, but wtf...

I made the mistake of going to Kotaku to see if there was any gaming news. They can't even write the name of this in their headlines they call it "War Crime Game" like a bunch of fucking babies.

Sounds like they should stick to worrying about pronouns and racial inequality of dwarves in LOTR , it's what they're "good" at. Also standing up for that poor deer man, who can't stand for him/it/xirself because he might be in his 20's as a human but it's only a few days old deer.

Threaten visa status? What? Anyway... Probably relevant:

What do veterans think about Six Days in Fallujah?

The game was conceived by a Marine who was badly wounded during the battle, and more than 100 Marines and Soldiers have helped during its development. With more than three million service-members who served in Iraq, there will always be many opinions about any media attempting to tell stories from this war. But we've found that most veterans are eager for videogames to share stories about the courage of those who fought by their sides.

Does the game tackle the controversial aspects of the battle?

Six Days in Fallujah explores many tough topics, including the events that led to the battles for Fallujah, what happened during these battles, and their aftermath. We do this during gameplay and through documentary segments that include interviews with many Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians who were most affected by these battles. Their opinions are diverse and surprising.

How are Iraqi people portrayed in the game?

We began interviewing Iraqi civilians in 2008. So far, we've interviewed 26 Iraqis, 23 of whom are from Fallujah, and we're anxious for you to experience their stories. Players will encounter Iraqi civilians during gameplay, as well as during documentary interviews. And, players will also assume the role of an unarmed Iraqi father trying to get his family out of the city during certain missions.

Will you recreate the death of a real Marine or Soldier?

We will not recreate the death of a specific servicemember during gameplay without their family’s permission. Instead, Marines and Soldiers describe the sacrifices of their teammates during video interviews.

Will I play as an insurgent?

No, you’ll never play as an insurgent during the single-player campaign, or in a multiplayer recreation of an actual event.

Was the US government involved in making the game? Will they use the game for recruiting?

The US government is not involved in making the game, nor are there any plans to use it for recruiting. The Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians who’ve helped us participated as private citizens, and the game is being financed independently.

How are you helping service members and Iraqi civilians outside the game?

A portion of the proceeds from Six Days will be donated to organizations supporting coalition service members, as well as Iraqi civilians, who have been most affected by the war on terror. Our focus will be on those whom traditional relief efforts are not yet reaching. Marines, Soldiers, and civilians who’ve helped us create the game will be deeply involved in directing these donations.

Which platforms will Six Days in Fallujah support?

We plan to release on current and next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft, as well as Windows PC.
We're currently targeting late 2021.

Fucking idiotic people......
"Games should all be political".
"No, this game is political and I don't like those politics."
"When I say politics I mean narrowly focused commentary that supports my position on issue #xxx"

Gonna have to buy the game just to stick it to the modern Puritans.

These idiots are beyond beliefs. They cry for the gaming medium to be taken seriously yet roll out the fainting couches when difficult subjects are covered. Do you see this in film and literature? Admission of games being infantilised.

Fucking wokeness.

A squad of marines go into a bar and start drinking. Pretty soon another squad arrives, then another and another until there's an entire platoon. Finally a lieutenant walks in and holds up a Cookie Monster jigsaw puzzle over his head. The marines go fuckin nuts and start chanting 28 28 28. This goes on all night until the barman leans over to one of them and asks why they keep chanting 28 28 28. The marine turns round and says, when we found the puzzle it said 2-5 yrs on the front of the box. We did it in 28 days!

Didn't Rami make some racist comments last month and delete/private his Twitter as a result? Now he's back and showing his boner for justice? Lmao

That's the thing that's amazing about it all, it's "assumed." I think it's important that people know the actual details before making a stink. At this point they're trying to cancel a game because of an interview and some teaser/behind the scene trailers/teasers.

I, for one, believe that generating the maps procedurally is one of the most important things we were missing to make the play experience less about memorization and more about actually learning how to play.
-or- a fully realised city with missions in various hand crafted locales could have provided for a 20-30h experience anyway. Games don’t need to be infinite, frankly do not like. And even if it must, the missions could have been dynamic leading you all over town.

As a fan of the older rainbow 6 games this looks good to me, wasn't expecting this either.

It actually makes sense here considering the mechanics of the game and the experience they are attempting to portray. It also means every building will have an interior which in itself is a good step forward.
It also means every building will look boring and generic.

I haven't played a single game yet that has a random generation system for assets or level designs and being any good at the same time.

I never thought of Diablo having good/memorable level designs. It was an addictive character builder/loot slasher. But other 2D/isometric RPG games at the time with hand crafted worlds looked immensely better.
But the games are good, aren't they? You said that games with procedural generation aren't good so I am saying that there are plenty that are.

I was specifically referring to their graphics/level designs, though i should have worded it better. I mean Tetris is also randomly generated and that game is a masterpiece of gameplay design.

Diablo was good but it did have boring graphics/level designs. It was just that it focused on other things more and you could give it a pass.

I think that's the point of procedural generation though - in that case. It just makes the grind a little less repetitive.

If you listen to the interviews, the game is using procedural generation for immersion/realism. When these guys land, they are dropped into small little towns and cities that at first glance do all look the same. They don't know where they are going moment to moment or any of the layout. They quickly have to establish points of reference, landmarks, orientation points etc. If you use a static map for that after 10-12 hours you pretty much know the map inside and out. They're deliberately trying to avoid that happening. It's not meant to be a static NYC or Washington like in The Division 2 for example.

They don't know what each door they open will give way to. Some might be empty, some might open up into courtyards or alleyways covered with MGs. If things go bad, you're not going to be able to just double back and use route B to flank, you're going to need a situational answer. If you scurry out into the open, then you might stumble down a dead end, or into a massive open town square etc. The procedural generation isn't being used as a show of tech or as an experiment, it's being purposefully used to always put you in the shoes of that solider unit.

It remains to be seen if they pull it off, but the fact these little towns have the same look and feel actually helps what the devs are going for imo. It looks same enough to be familiar but different enough to chane the challenge and dynamics.
