This has nothing to do with being a "fanboy" but everything to do with optics and respect to people who invested in your ecosystem.

The LEAST they can do is give away the stupid baseball game for Ps Plus or something or try to get forza or Star Field out of a deal with microsoft. Because right now it's constantly just looking like this:

- Take away ability to purchase & rent movies
- Charge $70 for first party games
- Port Sony first party games to pc with graphical enhancements that don't exist on the console version
- Allow microsoft to take away Bethesda games without doing anything really in response (yet)
- terrible changes made to the psn party system
- shutting down ps3, ps vita stores without offering a viable backwards compatibility solution for those games
- and now allowing mlb and Microsoft to leech off of their third party talent

Uhh returnal better be a home run, because right now things are LOOKING dire. Every other day microsoft are slam-dunking them it's like they've gotten so complacent and out of touch

You missed a few:

-more extensive BC
-BC getting frame rate boost
-Auto HDR
-Sony shuts down servers much sooner
-Sony’s treatment of Socom

Loved Sony in the past. So happy to still have a working PS3 slim for all the PS1-3 games on it (including HD remasters)

It's absolutely ridiculous to get this emotional about a game release.

He can feel how he wants if he's put a lot of money into the platform and the franchise over the years.

In that scenario I don't see how someone could be happy with this news. How does any of this benefit him?

I've been wanting to go out and buy a ps3 so I can play old games I missed but it's hard to find the right deal sadly.

Isent this game published by MLB on Xbox? So Sony and Jim dont have any saying in this.

What i wonder is, if this will start a bad relation beteween Sony and MBL that might make stop developing MLB games.

Its a curious one for sure.
None of this has anything to do with a "bad" relationship. It has everything to do with money. That simple.

I don' think Sony had any say in this, they would never have allowed the game to become available on GamePass to begin with, let alone Day 1. Although Sony publishes the games in the series, I think the MLB holds the final decision on where the games will end up. At the end of the day, this a big win for Xbox players and a big loss for PlayStation loyalists who have been faithful to the series for a long time and must still continue to pay full price.

It is entirely on the new Sony.
This didnt happened last gen, Jim allowed it this gen.
I mean, you can charge 4theplayers $70 if you paid tons to buy the exclusivity, but that didnt happen now. Whats the justification left for their $70 i wonder...

I realize most of this forum is a console war battleground but if you really look at this from a business perspective everyone wins. Most of all San Diego Studios.

1. MLB paid what is likely a huge amount to Sony (and then Sony to San Diego Studios) for them to develop an Xbox version. SDS has the chops to do this since they've been at it so long and they get a huge financial boost.

2. MLB eats all the cost of publishing and distribution of the Xbox version. Producing discs, shipping, marketing, retailer specific deals, etc.

3. The deal between MLB and Sony has to include some provision for profit sharing of any of the Ultimate Team stuff, which is where the big money is made. I'm sure SDS is involved here as well and gets a cut and now has 2x or 3x the userbase to sell microtransactions to.

4. MLB recoups a large part of that payment to Sony to develop the XBOX version by taking a huge payment from MS to toss it on Game Pass.

Bottom line is everyone basically making a fuckton of money with this deal, PR be damned. With San Diego Studios set to probably have their most profitable year to date in the history of the company. We all lament how devs are treated nonstop but this is probably a great deal for them and ensures they stick around for a long time.

MLB doesn’t pay for the game to get made lol. Sony is the one glad to have the License

I think MLB and Sony recently renewed their publishing contract together, and I'm guessing the MLB added a clause stating that for any partnership to continue, the games would have to become available on other platforms. So it was either lose the publishing rights or give in to demands.

But he can still play the game, how does it affect him in any way that others are getting the game on a service that he's not interested in?

Just console war fuckwittery... and embarrassing.

Jim Ryan and the rest of the people running PS right now are fucking morons and that is putting it lightly.
They shit on their customers and longtime supporters.

I need to move to PC, I can't take this crap anymore.
I love my ps5, but i feel sony needs to step it up in a major way in regards to their services offered (ps plus needs to become an actual rival to gamepass) and backward compatibility. They need to work on making ps1 and 3 games natively available and playable on ps5 hardware. Right now they have the first parry games advantage, but when microsofts heavy hitters start coming out, day one on gamepass mind you, it wont be much of an advantage if microsofts games are as good as sonys titles potentially.

Yeah man, that list of stuff is a pain in the ass, that’s why at the moment I play more on my Xbox and just use my PS for the FP games that I actually like. And when the 360 games dried up and the Xbox One launched, I spent more time on my PlayStation. Only way to show these companies is by withholding your cash and investing in the consumer friendly platform.

Yeh and he now has to pay a premium for the same experience, so again, how does that benefit him?

This isn't how you create harmony with your loyal customers, the opposite in fact. If Sony want to drive fans of the MLB franchise towards Xbox then this is certainly one way to do it.

That was a bad deal.
GP day 1 made a bad deal, worse x100.

Jimbo herman probably didnt care about baseball and didnt bothered to investigate further.
tbh i dont care about base ball either. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Another shitty move from Sony...

What they are basically saying is:

- For Xbox users: 'you have the option to buy or rent the game day one';
- For PS users: 'you only have the option to buy the game day one'.

Their OWN userbase, a game from their OWN studios...

Sony has just endorsed everyone saying Gamepass is not only wonderful for gamers, but for devs too. The least they could do is to offer the game on Plus or Now day one, but of course, the money would have to come from Sony, not MS.

We’re living in another age of “Arrogant Sony” so this won’t make them move the needle on their end whatsoever. As long as demand vastly outstrips supply of the PS5 they don’t really have any incentive anyway. Early adopters that actually have the console will typically eat shit and ask for seconds too.

Got a 12gb PS3 Super Slim for £99 new from ASDA in the UK when it was end of life, already had a fat PS3 but that was one of my best investments. Fantastic little machine. Swapped out for a 500gb hard drive no probs.

You seem to think that you deserve a pat on the back for being a loyal consumer, it doesn't really work like that, they don't care about you.

He's still paying what he would have paid before this announcement, his situation hasn't changed - he's just triggered that others are getting it on a service he's rabid about.

it isn't Sony. MLB owns the game and are the publishers beef with them not Sony. Oh and Money rules everthing. Keep it simple

I dont think optics really matter to anyone other than fanboys.

What matters is the precedent being set. And that hurts more than just feelings of fanboys. I dont give a shit who wins the PR war. or Who wins the most consoles.

BUT a lot of what you said is true and it hurts gamers. Gamers like myself who pick up MLB games every other year. This year was going to be amazing. Next gen visuals! Next gen features! But nope. The devs were clearly busy porting over 4 xbox versions and included zero next gen visual enhancements. I dont know if a next gen stadium creator with last gen visuals is something anyone gives a shit about.

So this port directly affected my experience. The vita and ps3 store closures directly affect me because my son fell in love with the playstation after playing astro bot and asked me to borrow my brothers ps3 and charge my vita. now all those games are gone forever. he wont get to experience them unless i go out hunting for dvds.

$70 for indie games like returnal is laughable and pretty much kills the game before it even comes out.

These things do affect gamers, not just fanboys and people calling you a fanboy miss these things.

Are they seriously charging $70 for a yearly sports game?

But yes, genius move from MS. I think even in their wildest dreams Sony didnt see this coming. I think this elevates Gamepass as a service since now we can say third party titles can come out on Gamepass on day one. If its MLB today then why not Fifa next year?

Not to mention the flex move by Phil. He is basically saying hey, I can force you to release a game on my platform and then I can essentially launch it for free and there is not a goddamn thing you can do about it. Fascinating stuff.

I know some Sony fans will get upset over this, but I just find this stuff so interesting. Imagine if this wasnt a MLB game. Imagine If Naughty Dog was making a Star Wars exclusive and all of a sudden Disney decided to force Sony to launch it on xbox and then MS decided to make it free. 4-5 years of dev time of their most talented studio. $50-60 million spent on dev. Another $50 million on marketing, only for MS to get it for free. You could write a movie on this.

EDIT: If MLB can force Sony to launch a game on Xbox and then make it free on Gamepass then so can Marvel. Goodbye Spiderman PS exclusive?
doesnt sony own the gaming rights to spiderman? pretty sure they do.

edit: ok I looked it up. sony owns the movie rights and marvel owns the gaming rights. an agreement was made for the exclusive game.

Why would Sony even want to publish this game anymore? Surely the studio can be retasked to do something a little more profitable
Even though they don't publish it anymore MLB does, What do you think the reaction would be if this was exclusive to Xbox? We already got people pissed because it isn't exclusive to Playstation. Somewhere out there we got deathreats now.

The reality is that none of these companies actually care about the individuals that purchase their products/services but one of the hallmarks of all great companies is that they make it appear like they care. Making this move (or allowing it to happen - there's the possibility that this was out of their hands but they failed to put a contract in place that would have prevented it from happening), makes it abundantly clear that they don't care and it's not a good look.

Ultimately it looks like you're making it personal against him while failing to see the bigger picture at play.

people are totally delusional if they think that Sony had no say to this. Sony had all of the power to do this or don't.
they choosed to be well paid for this move by m$, simple as that. only question, how much sony got paid by m$.

Generally it is the publishers that call the shots though, not the developers. If Sony had been all-in on getting The Show on Xbox they would have published it themselves like MS does with Minecraft, the fact that MLB has to publish this directly tends to make me think it was an idea that Sony wasn't too keen on.

If jim ryan have an active twitter account, you can be sure voices will be out and loud, and i wont be surprise if Sony backed down and offer it on PS+

But jim ryan is jim ryan... good luck !

I'm mocking his meltdown, so yes. The bigger picture is this shouldn't really bother anyone, unless you care about your favourite conglomerates 'optics'.

The last line of this tweet sums it up perfectly.

They are asleep at the wheel and failed to anticipate this being a possibility when they agreed to make the game multiplatform with the MLB.

I'm mocking his meltdown, so yes. The bigger picture is this shouldn't really bother anyone, unless you care about your favourite conglomerates 'optics'.

Well in that case all I can do is roll my eyes.
