Tencent Patents Gaming Controller, Images Show a Mash of PlayStation & Xbox Controllers

"Just last month, a patent surfaced for Tencent regarding a gaming console. Well, you can’t have a gaming console without a controller, right? It looks like the patent for a Tencent gaming controller has surfaced as well, and it looks quite similar.

Originally submitted in November 17, 2020, the controller images has been revealed, and it will look familiar to anyone who’s played using a PlayStation and/or Xbox game pad."

I am pretty sure Sony and MS will not allow the patent to be accepted, as designer, I would go mental if some company tried to do that.
This is so ridiculous.

That is truly the DualShock and Xbox Controller having a baby. No other way to explain it. Has the same elongated look as the DualShock while having the roundness and feel of the Xbox controller

The main thing I really dislike about many Chinese products is how a lot of them feel like copies of other designs.
I really hope they can somehow make it look and feel a bit more unique if they were to release their own console.

Everything China has ever made has been either poorly reverse engineered or blatantly copied. Why would anyone expect them to design an original game controller

Just look at their auto industry, in all the years they've been making cars they either simply copied everything or made the most unsafe garbage on the road.

Agreed, though I think they also know this is their weakness.
Give them some time; it will take time to develop their sense of aesthetics and intuition.
I am optimistic since this is the direction they are investing into now judging by what types of classes and things they are promoting now. :)

Many people still just care about the "image" of being wealthy such as lambos and such, because many rose up from poverty quickly before. It will take time for them to harmonize into an aura of 'taste' like Japan.
But then again, maybe it doesn't matter in the end and I am just judgemental as a Chinese born in the West. lol

It's coming. I'm writing this on my Mi 10 Pro in Pearl White and I think it's the most tastefully designed (physically) phone ever

What time is it?
I got to import one of those Land Winds. <3

That controller design looks fine beyond stacking the lower-middle two buttons. Trackpads are great, but mostly as a source for easily accessible buttons when developers divide the presses into left/right or quadrants.

At least they got the right stick positioning, but the D-Pad doesn't look good to me and why that useless touchpad?

I wish there was an easy way to switch back and fourth from Series X and PC
Double tapping the sync button switches between 2 known connections, provided you use Bluetooth for the pc.

Edit: that may only be for the newest series x/s controllers, not the elite v2.

Sometimes I am jealous of Android users, I have been sticking to my iPhone with a headphone jack waiting for it to become notchless and with an optical zoom lens like some of those Chinese Androids phones.

Looks terrible, but here's the real question - can it run...

That’s how you learn, Japan was the same in the 50s, 60s, 70s ... look how that turned out.

Beter to copy and learn than to reinvent the wheel.

I mean, there's only so many ways you can design a gamepad, but copying Sony's touch interface which is the DS's unique feature cements this as just a shamefur clone.

They should spend in R&D.

Unlikely.

Chinese innovation means buying a better photocopier.

I swear to god, when they prideful demand respect from the rest of the world it makes me laugh. Sure dude, you’ll get a lot of respect riding in your cheaply cloned car.

Correct stick placement and actually useful back buttons instead of drain battery gimmicks, seems legit.

When are they aiming for this console's release? This year?

It's a Switch knockoff/handheld PC anyway, and even Valve wants a piece of this growing market's pie via their own handheld PC, "SteamPal", later this year.

The worldwide chip shortages and scalping, has contributed greatly to this market, but ever since the Switch's release, there's a growing thirst for a powerful open source PC handheld, so who knows how big it's going to explode into or fade away...
