Bloomberg: Multiple potential Buyers interested in Square Enix (Debunked: See OP)

SquareEnix is just a much better fit for Sony or even Nintendo over Microsoft, but I highly doubt Sony will aggressively try to get SE because procuring companies just doesn’t seem to be their style and their new direction makes me doubt it even further.

Also, I hope SE wouldn’t be forced to make primarily smaller budget Gamepass games though if Microsoft acquired them.

Not in Japan it's not. The Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act in Japan highly restricts acquisitions of Japanese companies by foreign entities.
So this would automatically exclude Tencent too, which is good.

Maybe, just maybe Sega buys SquareEnix and then MS buys Sega.
This would be a big brain move 😅

Sony and some other companies have shares in Kadokawa, the reason they do not have to buy them is because they will be so dependent on Sony to distribute their Anime worldwide..

Square is about 70% gaming and the rest is anime, manga, arcade and film. A big part of gaming is mobile too....

They also have over 5000 staff to manage.

It would be several times more complicated than Zenimax and add a language and cultural difference....... it would be a total shitshow for msft.

Jimbo would probably install his western buddies as various heads in SE too :messenger_tears_of_joy: 🤞

If Microsoft buys them it would be a fucking joke. Cannot stand what Phil is doing to the industry now. I fail to believe Square would sell out to a company like Microsoft though, and there's no way Sony would allow that to happen after the Zenimax deal.
you mean acquiring who WANT TO BE PURCHASED thus preventing market leader Sony from using (as it has always done and continues to do) its market position to disadvantage rival consoles by obtaining exclusives with moneyhat? (i.e. Deathloop, ghostwire, the rumor about starfieled and again ffVIIR, ffXVI and only God knows what else)
As gamers between Sony and Ms we only have to hope that it is Ms who wins a hypothetical bid war (big emphasis on hypothetical). At least we will be sure that the games would not be exclusive to a plastic box only

Believe it or not, they’re the best option for gamers (no exclusivity BS), and I literally don’t understand the FUD surrounding Tencent when western games like League of Legends is prospering under them

If Microsoft buys, future games will all be on PC and possibly Nintendo.

If Sony buys, Square Enix will only play a support role since Sony isn’t interested in making Japanese games like they used to.

If Nintendo buys, everyone wins.

For what it’s worth jez said he doesn’t think ms will purchase SE and he’s one of the more reliable Xbox insiders. So who knows what he’s knows.

With that said I’d like to point out that after the Bethesda acquisition we’ve seen multiple Xbox partner studios decide to remain independent or take offers from other huge corporations in the form of investments. If Xbox aligned studios are unwilling to gobbled up by them why would sqaure, whose basically ignored Xbox for almost 5 years decide to be owned by them? Like let’s say Microsoft offered 12 billion and Sony 10 billion. Wouldn’t it make sense as a business to stick with your actual fan base instead of a couple extra billion in such a scenario? I have no idea but I hope sqaure remains independent.

Can Microsoft as a whole aquire even more than the... 20 billion for Nuance and 7.5 billion for Bethesda and talks of buying discord for 10+ billion as well. That would be 40billion on top of whatever it would take to get square. Have to figure square would be at least equal to or more than Bethesda no?

Would absolutely love to see Microsoft acquire Square Enix or at the very least, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal along with the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Gex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver IP's. Also, if Square Enix owns the Just Cause IP which I believe that they do, would try to get that as well if I was Phil.

Well thanks Microsoft for setting the new trend of buying 3rd party studios... if Sony buys the studio, Xbox fans can’t complain because the studio “ asked for it” right?

yeah it’s so easy to say “meltdowns” but if this becomes a trend we might end up losing more and more 3rd party studios!

but who cares? Console wars for the win

Square would be another 10 billion or possibly higher, they trade between 7 and 8 billion but there is usually a 30% premium or more.

But if MSFT bought them, a lot of the company would have to be spun off or sold. I can't see communication being too easy either and the Japanese reaction wouldn't be good.

The value is very dubious to Xbox, it would be more of a move to deny it to PlayStation and it's possibkle that Square leadership might see Sony or other offers as healthier for company in the longterm.

Sony could easily afford it...I would go with 4 billion cash, 4 billion debt and 2 billion stock or something along those lines (Sony has very low debt and using only 4 billion cash still leaves over 40 billion in the bank) .... question is, if PS leadership is smart enough to see how important SE are to them.

Nah if Nintendo buys, no more PC, game engines designed on mobile specs design. :messenger_astonished:

MS is the best place imo.

Imagine Bethedsa and SQ and Avalon and probably Bioware as partner.... all these on GPU Store day 1....

There wouldn’t even be many big ones left after this purchase.

Capcom and Take-Two would be about all that remains.

MS can’t buy Sega or Konami! Because of the Japanese law.

MS will buy itself tho, oh the meltdowns “MS interested in buying MS”

joking 🙃

Hopefully it isn't the Chinese or Epic games (same thing really).

But tbh Nier is the only thing they make that I still care about. Sell the rights of Xenogears to Nintendo, and Chrono Trigger while they're at it.

what i know, japan has law that restrict their big firm/company from being acquired by foreigner and last year their MOF even tighten their rules.

here is the list of those company that under these law.
square enix indeed in the list.

i do not know much about stuff like this, hopefully anyone who knowledgeble can correct me or explain more about this.

It will be Sony then. Tencent or MS is out of the picture.

Pretty much every rumor of some company being up for sale... it's Microsoft and the "War Chest" I don't know if ppl just believe that Microsoft's bank account is just open to any of their divisions?!?!

My guys, the division has to be able to make that money back. I don't know if you guys understand this, but the Xbox division for Microsoft is not the "bread winner"... they don't have a blank check. Square-Enix valuation is currently, according to what I found, above $4 Billy. Microsoft will not make a move unless it makes money sense. The biggest thing that worries me about this, If MS goes on a shopping spree and it doesn't workout, is MS has not qualms about cutting divisions. Whenever MS has poured $$$ into a division as a last ditch effort to "save" a division and it hasn't worked out... I think we all know what happens. I don't want that to happen. I don't see the video game industry going in the best direction if it was just Playstation and Nintendo policing each other.

Umm, I see a trend here: Sony buys, good - M$ buys, bad. Apparently a lot of hurt feelings and insecurity feelings going on in this topic. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

This just says that foreign companies looking to purchase more than a 1% stake in said listed firms will be subject to pre-screening.

If anyone can correct me please but this just sounds like MS would undergo stricter scrutineering.
