Resident Evil Village: Village Demo Gameplay (PS5)

Didn't see a thread about this, so i started one. Village Demo (1st of 3 demos) is out on the PS5 in the US. Other regions start rolling in tomorrow. Couple of things to note:

1) This shows the village section. You can finish this in about 10-15 mins if you run to doors and checkpoints.
2) Apparently there's a shotgun in the demo. I couldn't find it. (UPDATE - can be found in the house to the left right before encountering the werewolves in the tall grass. A mine is in there as well)
3) Turn off the acceleration and camera wobble in settings. It sucks balls. It makes aiming wobbly a lot and also messes with the camera.
4) These lycans can be killed with bullets to the head or with knife attacks. Just guard when they attack to nullify their damage. I don't do a good job here as it is my first time, but you can avoid them entirely as well
5) Demo is only available for a limited time. So go download on PS4 or PS5. (UPDATE - Village Demo is officially over. Castle demo timer is up now)
6) Sorry for not recording in 4K. My recording device decided to record in 1080 for some random reason.....

Hope you guys get a chance to play it. Sadly the other platforms will have to wait till May to play the demos. Cheers

Game looks nice I guess. Kind of an odd choice to only have two werewolves that run away almost immediately. Game doesn't really utilize the first person perspective much better than 7 did. I get the feeling Capcom just isn't ever going to really get it. I also hated how the game keeps unequipping your weapon. Voice acting didn't really do it for me and I don't know if RE really needed an old hag straight out of The Last Unicorn either.

Well if this is the ray tracing mode then there obviously isnt some silly 45fps cap on. as this is clearly 60fps most of the time. Unless its only certain parts of the game where there is heavy RT and the game auto locks to 45fps in those parts.
Hopefully thats wrong though as a 45fps cap just sounded stupid to me.

The real time shadows are pretty low Res, I assume they're not ray traced? If not, what is?

Capcom should license out the RE Engine.
Look at the results of using it for Rise on Switch… quite outstanding. Makes me think about the time when everytime a third party Japanese developer was chastised for not just giving up and licensing UE4 :).

Still, licensing an engine out and offering support is a whole other beast… it is very tough and draining, but maybe there is still some need for game engines with great Japanese documentation.

Framerate on PS5 with RT on falls in the 50-60fps range, but mostly in the 55-60fps range, which is much better than a 45fps lock lol.
None RT mode seems to be pretty close to a locked 60fps.

Not sure about the PS4 version though, 50-60fps range, and mostly around the 50-55fps range when playing.:messenger_smirking:
And dat framerate on the Pro 4k mode lol.

Cant really tell what RT is adding to be honest. Outside scenes look slightly brighter with RT on, and indoor scenes look identicle. Not sure its wirth the lost frames.

What difficulty did you play on? On standard I ran into 4 werewolves and they most def did not run away but were chasing me around until I gunned them all down.

Both Pro at 1080p and PS5 at 4K RT Off seem to be locked at 60fps. Lol the Xbox guy (the guy who did that video) is staying in the same exact spot (in the field with plenty of vegetation) in order to show the worst scene possible. But even PS5 RT on seem to be stable at 60fps in others scenes.

I don't remember him having ever ever tested the spot in the vegetation where Hitman 3 was running at 50fps on XSX.

So basically no difference in gameplay except resolution. So much for next gen, more like PS4 Pro Pro.

Looks like a lot of cutscenes with very little gameplay or actual horror, and the couple fights it did have didn't feel tense at all compared to something like RE4, which also had wide open areas but did it much better.

I wouldn't start laughing just yet. It's possible they go with a native 4k solution for the xsx version and stick with 4kcb with the ps5 version like the Marvel avengers guys did.

It still won't be as bad as 1080p 60 fps vs 4k like he had claimed, but I'm sure he will use that as proof of something....

This has nothing to do with comparisons between PS5 and XSX (not to mention that Capcom has already stated the graphical settings/performance profiles are the same for both PS5/XSX so native 4K vs CB is wishful thinking).
He said PS5 was struggling to keep 60fps at 1080p (and ray tracing wasn't even considered) and causing development issues :messenger_grinning_sweat:
He was shilling for Xbox and full of bs and he even kinda admitted it later. That is all, it's common these days :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Btw can't wait to try demo later today.

The shotgun is in the small cabin to your left before entering the farm

PS5 is too weak to run RE8 @ 60fps

When people can actually get next gen systems.
The point is theres even ps4 games that look better and have better mechanics, im just growing tired of this generic boring looking games its like the only reason they make them is because they can sell them since they are famous ip's but they domt innovate anything its the usual washed out boring look. Nothing inspiring nothing to get me up my seat, even the voice acting looks like its been done by regular uninspired people, even animes have better voice acting i mean what is this?

Even worse they where chatting about this game not being possible on ps4 and all a bunch of chatter about it only being possible with nextgen ssd's like for fucks sake Theres nothing in this game thats remotely taxing in rendering and even the raytracing is becoming a boting talk now i dont see any special improvements i havent seen in any game out there, only game ive been impressed with graphically is demon souls and that has no raytracing. So whatever its tracing in this game is useless. Its all just a hyped up game if u ask me.

I am a little bummed about the checkerboarding, but it seems to be halfway decent and it's enough to trick me (During my playthrough last night PS5) and it's nothing like Avengers Ckb.

Some of the plants could use a little more texture/geometry for sure, but, don't lose sight of the forest for the trees is my main take away.

100x times better than Returnal.

Lol? How would you even know. Have you even played either? Returnal's gunplay does look insanely better than RE8's, that's for sure. As a huge fan of RE7 (my favorite RE game), I found this and the last RE8 demo very boring. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but there's no way I'm gonna be there day 1. I really liked the look of everything though. Looked really good imo.

With how well the game runs on PS4 and PS4 Pro, I kinda would have expected it would have been able to do native 4K 60 (without RT) on PS5. I mean Pro seems to run 1800-2160p checkboarded and close to 60 much of the time (50s). Surely the PS5 could have managed at least DRS 4K with a 60FPS target?

I would get NieR Automata and Returnal over this... I liked RE7 just for the VR (without VR is just an average game)... and the last proper RE I liked (not counting the remakes) is RE6 just the Leon campaign... Lycans, Vampires... i hope they go back to my tastes and return to the zombies formula.

I've downloaded the demo on PS4 and there is a countdown of some sort. Who thought it was a good idea to let you download the demo and then wait for it to unlock? lol Capcom.
