Resident Evil Village: Village Demo Gameplay (PS5)

JORMBO

Darkness no more
I downloaded it on PS5. I also fired up RE7 after. The graphics don't look much better in RE8. The shooting is shitty. I really like the atmosphere and environment though. Overall with my gripes I am still looking forward to playing the game.

Framerate on PS5 with RT on falls in the 50-60fps range, but mostly in the 55-60fps range, which is much better than a 45fps lock lol.
None RT mode seems to be pretty close to a locked 60fps.

Not sure about the PS4 version though, 50-60fps range, and mostly around the 50-55fps range when playing.:messenger_smirking:
And dat framerate on the Pro 4k mode lol.

Cant really tell what RT is adding to be honest. Outside scenes look slightly brighter with RT on, and indoor scenes look identicle. Not sure its wirth the lost frames.

AnalistaDeBits?

FYI the mods don't really allow that source here due to the fact he makes it of errors with his analysis. Once he gets better I'm sure they will allow threads with his comparisons.

I'm trying to avoid overexposure. I wish it would come out sooner, I'm in the right mood for something like this.

It seems like ray tracing is being used for global illumination (footage is dark but it's really clear around the sofa):

Played the demo last night. I had two accounts, so I played for about an hour.

I liked it, but I don't think it was segment for a demo, especially a timed one since it was full of cutscenes that run the timer down. I was expecting more gameplay, but 2/3 of the demo was cutscenes (that are thankfully skippable). I'm not disappointed, but I wasn't overly impressed.

Just played it in jpn account. Tbh it just feels like re7 which is great if you loved that game. If you prefer remake 2/3 etc then prepare for disappointment.
Enemies are bullet sponges again. Shame.
also why is everyone a yank when its clearly meant to be romania or something.

What difficulty did you play on? On standard I ran into 4 werewolves and they most def did not run away but were chasing me around until I gunned them all down.
I was on hardcore. They popped out when I got to the gate to Luiza's house. I nailed one of them with a couple pistol rounds to the head and they both ran off. I didnt go to the shack so maybe that's why I never saw the rest.

Never been a RE fan and this did nothing to change it. Traversal is bad, combat is Elder Scrolls-ish, and graphically it’s ugly although I’m always appreciative of 60fps. Really nice audio and atmosphere though. The dialogue was stupid for the most part. The main guys voice felt so out of place.

Apparently there's a setting to disable the acceleration in the aiming and movement. I didn't turn it off, but I guess that's why the aiming felt off.

Why are PlayStation fans the only ones who keep bringing up this shit? It was shit then. It's shit now. Forget it and stop fucking talking about dumbasses. Let them be forgotten

You know who here was talking a lot of shit back then believing a rumor that didn’t make sense for obvious reasons. Now they want everyone to forget about the whole thing? Naaah 😂

PS5 is too weak to run RE8 @ 60fps
The game doesn't look any better than RE7, only in higher resolution. The grass and some textures look straight out of PS2 era. RE8 doesn't push next gen consoles in any way of what they're truly capable of. RE5 back in the day set the visual bar high after RE4, it looked like a next gen leap. Capcom is doing a bare minimum with RE8 across all systems, and Sony's marketing team selling it like candy in the premium wrap.

Played the demo twice on PS5, once using a different account. It’s okay.

Breakdown

Pro’s - Atmosphere, Resident Evil is back.

Cons - Visuals don’t impress. A lot of last-Gen textures that look REALLY rough in the outdoor sections.

Cons - Writing is bad. Won’t get into specifics but portions of the dialogue are quite bad. Not even “tv pilot that never aired” bad, but “embarrassing writing only possible in video game” bad.

Cons - Shooting feels like dogshit. At this point, why not just allow us to aim down sights? It’s how everyone is used to playing these games and ADS FEELS better. The little tiny white dot isn’t cutting it.

Cons - I think this is one of many games were COVID development will be felt. Not making excuses for the game, trust me. A lot of this just didn’t feel cohesive or polished, not like RE7 did. It feels like some good ideas without any proper execution.

Overall - I’m cautiously optimistic that the final game will come together better. But this is feeling like a 7ish game to me after completing the demo twice, whereas RE7 was to me more of an incredible moment for the franchise, this is “meh”.

Boring gameplay, lifeless atmosphere, worst re i played so far.

I will play the full game to score appropriately, but that was my first impressions...

I love RE series, i even love RE6, but man...Re8 deserve more than a clone of 10$ horror steam games (some of those are even more scary and fun than this)
What did you think of RE7?

So, I was VERY close to checking out the demo myself, but decided against it, and just watched a playthrough instead.

I definitely dig what I'm seeing! I personally think the game looks great, but I suppose I'm somewhere between the minority and majority with that opinion? I'm not sure if the video I saw had RT on, but I did notice some of the textures looked kinda muddy, etc. But I still think it looks pretty enough, especially the environments.

We also have no idea how large the game truly is as well, that could play a large role in everything mentioned above.

I say this all the time, but I feel like I always need to, but to each their own.

To say you wished it looked better is one thing, but to say it looks like "shit"? Come on dude, lmao.

Reading some folks opinions it just really sounds like people want to hate on RE8 for whatever reason. Rather than "Man, I was hoping..." or "I'm kinda disappointed", it's "THIS SUCKS AND IS UGLY!" Lmao

100x times better than Returnal.
I mean, I'd wait until the game releases to say something like that, yeah? I don't even know how I feel about Returnal, but I think it wouldn't be fair to say such a thing, lmao.

unlocks in 30 mins where I'm at.

I'll check it out and probably skip the next one, I feel I've seen too much of the game already.

Looks like shit. I'm not buying anything until Ratchet. Im done supporting these generic ass developers with no vision and shit ass "next gen" graphics. Step your game up. TLOU 2 should inspire you fuckers.

Even though it's not announced yet this is almost assuredly a made for VR game. Gonna look kinda shit no matter what.

(Sorry mods, duplicated post again... I don't know why, im afraid to post now... it's here or there ?)

The colorful cast of main characters is like the heart of the RE franchise for me. Ethan is like the antithesis of that, lol. The first person view doesn't help, of course.

I Gamefly'd RE7 and will probably do the same with this game at some point. I just don't give a flying fuck about this faceless bum.

Anyway, similar to RE7, it might still be a decent game regardless of the bland main character. Going to go check out a demo playthrough right now to see if it's any good. That Maiden demo was junk, though.

Awesome atmosphere, scary and innovative when released. I liked a lot!
Ok. I know some fans were divided on it. I personally loved it, best RE game since 5 (obviously RE4 was better than 5).
You obviously weren't around for the "Master of unlocking" masterpiece that was RE1 on the PSX.
Oh, I know bad video game writing, trust me. It just stands out in AAA games with huge budgets who typically have the money to hire good writers (nowadays, I'm referring to). But videogames have notoriously shitty writing and voice acting as a rule, I realize.

That part where the girl shoots her dad and afterwards was really awkward acting.

From an immersion level or cinematic standpoint it feels real low budget to me. Maybe the covid card can be pulled here, dunno. Just feels super derivative or dated with the cramped cooridor levels, hunting for random objects to unlock doors.

Yeah. The acting isn't bad (not saying it's top-tier) but then you feel yourself getting immersed and then suddenly a character says something REALLY fucking awkward, like you moment you mentioned or when that drunk guy in the cabin goes on his rant, and you snap out of the moment and go "Oh, I'm playing a silly fucking videogame with bad writing".

Not to be an asshole, but what's up with the QA here? I mean, you can be generic and archetypical and still not OFFENSIVELY bad in your writing to the point where it stands out.

Just tried the demo.
Amazing graphics and atmosphere and really cool setting.
Aiming felt a bit off, it was difficult to aim with the enemies moving quickly and not being zombies.
It will probably take a bit of time to get used to and some tweaking with the aiming speed settings, there simply wasn't time to do that in the demo.
Looking forward to the castle demo next week, game seems really promising.

People complaining about cb 4k first of all none of you really care besides filling the ego of knowing its native 4k cause you wont notice it secondly digital foundry couldnt notice it when they did a review of the first 4k rt demo on ps5 so stop the crying.

Secondly it is a crossgen game and this means on ps5 it runs on ps4 pro enhanced profile. Its crossgen we where deceived by capcom when they came out in the ps5 reveal show claiming its a nextgen only title, this game was made on ps4 and then ported to nextgen systems.

Thirdly for all those constant liars out there shame on you for saying ps5 was struggling at 1080p 60 with rt and recently saying its capped at 45fps with rt then u said tony hawks pro skater was only 1080p 120 on ps5, if i had a dollar for all the fake news fanboys made about ps5 id be rich as batman today.
come on guys just get a life its getting boring now its 4k 60with rt give or take some minor frame drops, Not that i care about rt anyway i dont see the difference.

Lastly for some few xbox fans celebrating about the frame drops in rt mode, mind you series x in general drops more fps in games than ps5 so theyll be similar if not it might even be the series x that drops to 45fps more often, just saying.. hold ur horses! 🤣🤣

But man.... that jim ryan guy is quite a liar no wonder hes been quiet and hidding all this time he knows he promised shit and whats worse is he came out on ps5's reveal talking like some sentimental emotional playstation fan and social justice warrior with his support for "blm" but all the while lying to fans that everything on the show was playstation 5 exclusive! and that he brlieved in generations, and up until now only demon souls is ps5 exclusive everytgibg else on that fraud show was a ps4 game. To me i feel betrayed. American corporate culture is full of pinnocio's.. and they somehow think its funny, im really pissed, you cant trust anybody this days.

Just played through the demo and very much enjoyed it.

Tip: go into the small cabin on the left at the start of the field to find the shotgun and siege the Lycans - easy to miss.

The graphics in the outdoor sections are decent but a bit greyscale monochrome, however for me when you enter Luiza's house the graphics really shine (PS5). Great detail in the textures, cloth etc and impressive lighting and shadows with the raytracing.

The only negative issue for me is the narrow field of view. Trying to play the game quite quickly to get through it in just 30 mins, and moving the camera around fast made me feel a bit queasy! Wish it was a wider field of view, it's like walking around with an eyepatch.

Yeah, disabling the acceleration on the movement and aiming makes a drastic difference.

Nice! Got to play the village demo and it took me 26 minutes to finish. I even found the shotgun. nice.
Oh this is good. This is so good !
Graphics are excellent, haptic triggers are excellent too! I just with ps5 supported freesync

There was some lag when aiming, Kinda took a moment to from moving the stick to looking around. play on lg oled c1 with game optimizer etc so it's not tv fault

Ok, I played the demo. No issues with how it looks, definitely not a showcase of next-gen horsepower but that was clear already. Runs great on PS5 with RTX, I don have a counter but it feels like 60 most of the time.
Sometimes I felt it's not clear which obstacles you can vault over and which you can't. My aim is always shit in every game until I get used to it so hard for me to say anything at this point. Enemies can chase you but do only to a certain distance, wonder how that will work when you get swarmed and I think that was a good taste of it. Seems like you shouldn't be fighting all the mobs that come out as you find the wounded civilian, I missed a path, backtracked, ran out of ammo but somehow made it but only to the garage. I'd be up for replaying if that was possible.
