Nintendo Switch is printing money more than Wii and NDS combined.

Very impressive, but not completely surprising.

I think 2022 or 2023 FY would be more interesting and closely fought b/w Sony and Nintendo. I think Sony might topple Nintendo in one or both of those years in terms of profitability. Sony recorded >3B during a console launch year when it incurs huge losses.

Either way, the future of gaming seems bright with both Nintendo and Sony kicking asses, and MS looking much better too. Great time to be a gamer.

Well deserved. The switch is an awesome hybrid and Nintendo still put out excellent quality 1st party stuff.

I’m disappointed Sony and/or MS didn’t go for a similar hybrid/portable-static console concept.

Because they simply can't compete. And they also have home consoles to sell. This space belongs firmly and squarely with Nintendo and it'd be folly trying to compete.

They have only made any money off of me Once. Only Nintendo purchase I ever made was a original Nintendo GameBoy in 1990, just before Operation DesertShield/Storm. Also brought an Atari Lynx too. Always had to raid supply for “AA” batteries. LOL

Impressive.
How's the hardware sales compared to PS5 this quarter?.
Afaik PS5 is the leader.

Why? They create games that appeal to the masses and are great to play, created a console that is pretty much unlike anything on the market, and are pushing gaming in different directions.
Some will never understand their is another demographic that are not interested in the latest triple AAA movie like games, they are not obsessed with graphics or frame rates, they just want to have fun playing video games and do not spend most of their time playing them.

Not surprising. Switch was underpowered and overpriced from launch. They haven't dropped price since than either. Also the handheld market is huge! And nintendo are masters of that market.

This has to be the most backhanded compliment so far, pretty sure it will be beaten the longer this thread continues. ;)

Good for Nintendo. Just wish they would place more emphasis on using those profits to make more cutting edge games.

I know MP4 is in development but man, surely there's resources and funds to make a quality Star Fox, F-Zero, more tracks for MK, retro game availability, etc. I have a Switch (my wife's) but I never play the thing. All the major games I'm interested in playing are already on the Wii U. Switch has amazing 3rd party support but 1st party seems lacking as hell.

Nintendo's profits do not translate to having games being made. Not sure why so many people are shittin' kittens over the wild success of the Switch when there are so many areas that Nintendo ignores.

Yep! My favorite game this year is called It Takes Two, and its far from being this incredible powerhouse spec.

Now I'm confused lol
I'm pretty sure there was a thread putting PS5 ahead of Switch on the same period. But maybe it was just NPD data.
PS5 is the leader in dollar sales - Each PS5 costs between 400 and 500$, Switch is 300 or less

I did not like the game output in 2020 and unless they annonce something drastically different for 2021, so far it’s as bad.. I guess congrats? But not that deserved.

What’s most ridiculous is achieving that with a console that did not drop in price since release, holy crap the flex.

Are you really expecting cutting edge games on this type of hardware and with so many remakes?

Most people I know have their Switch as a second console to their Playstation or Xbox. Playstation and PC is the strongest combination in terms of AAA gaming and performance which leaves the Switch as tertiary. And regardless people are buying the current crop of games so there's no incentive for Nintendo to push the boat out for cutting edge stuff as long as demand is there.

This is why I admire Nintendo, I know most here only care about games and "fair prices" (you know, Nintendo is a charity now) but observing them with a business POV is always amazing, they just do what they have to do as a company and the results are tremendous.

Switch Pro and BOTW2 confirmed delayed now :D
Where's my "crying" reaction?
