At this point, Xbox & PlayStation need to continue supporting last-gen till this shortage issue goes away.......Let me explain.

Like I said before, I have an Xbox Series S and to be honest, I wanted to get a PS5 but at this point and time, I don't think it's possible and there is no way in hell I'm going to buy from a scaper. But that is not the point of this thread being made. I know a lot of people are going to disagree and myself included, but................at the rate we are going with next-gen consoles being extremely rare. Both PlayStation and Xbox need to rethink how their plans are going to be for next-gen till this shortage goes away. If it ever does go away. I think they need to extend their support for last-gen till this goes away, yes you read that right. It even burns my eyes writing this. But hear me out.

Sony is now saying that they are making plans to cut down and restructure the PS5 to meet up with demands, and the shortage probably won't end till 2021 to 2022, maybe longer. Right now these chips are going to be sold to the highest bidder and since videogames are not a priority for some, both companies are going to have issues getting enough chip supplies. Why would I say this well because phones and computers or tablets are important for these companies to make. As more and more people work from home myself included. -- This is where the solution comes in, both companies are going to force themselves to support last-gen till 2023 or longer depending on how long this shortage lasts.

I don't like the stupid idea of me even writing this but at this rate, if both companies want to survive they have three choices.......

1. If the game can't run on the last-gen, delay till they are able to get enough people on board with the next-gen to even release the game.
2. Risk the game running horribly, release it till meet ends meet.
3. Run around in circles and hope for the best.

Like I said I don't like the idea but it's a solution for all, till this issue gets resolved, if it ever does. Cause bad news, after bad news keeps coming out. No good news has come out from both companies stating they are capable of meeting up with demands. I don't know maybe in a few months. This crap will blow over and everyone will get lucky and get a next-gen console. Who knows, all I know is if devs start making games next-gen only I can see a disastrous result come back.

I don't know maybe I'm wrong in all this and this is just a dream.

So to anyone who has a next-gen console on here, count your blessings because at this point you are sitting on the rarest device ever at this point, rarer than a damn iPhone.

Thoughts?

Edit ---- Damn I must've pissed off everyone, like I said things will not get any better. When we see horrible sales on these next-gen only because of lack of people buying the new gen. You'll see.

Well Sony is still supporting last gen while also having PS5 only games.

Its been done in the past and is not a new concept. If stock gets better for 2022....that will be about the normal time for cross gen to end.

I think we have to see the sale numbers for R n C to even have a discussion about this. Miles PS5 version is still in the top 5 downloads on PSN.

Its not like PS5 versions arent selling because of the shortages....

The April numbers will be interesting.

Like I said since you seem to misunderstand, extend their full support for last-gen or just delay the game. Do you think both companies will have a good outcome if they only released last-gen only even in 2022 comes around. Doesn't matter if they are, they need to give out full support, or just delay it. Shit has hit the fan. Some serious shit is happening.

Sony and Microsoft please disregard this lunatic. We don't know how he escaped his room but he will be promptly returned and locked away. Dump last gen and move on.
Yes, please!!! Ohh god yes, let's get horrible sales -- Like I said cause you can't even read. I don't even like it but I have a feeling -- Things won't get better from 2023 to 2024. We are in a pandemic and it's getting worse in some countries like India.

It's true, I didn't even read your post. My point sill stands. Last gen has long overstayed its welcome. Put it out of its misery.

I personally don't mind cross-gen titles as long as they're well executed, with next-gen versions running at 60FPS instead of 30, 4K instead of 1080-1440p, sharp textures, much faster loadings, and maybe some added RT features. There are ~165M PS4/XB1 consoles out there vs not even 10% of that of the new ones, there's no way any sane publisher will abandon that userbase anytime soon.

I don't think they are cutting down the PS5, it's a move from 7nm > 6nm which in theory should produce better yields/more usable chips per wafer with a slight bump in power efficiency, probably no boost in clocks, but could be wrong. Microsoft will hopefully follow suit, I think everyone here can agree that as consumers, we need both companies putting their best foot forward when it comes to competing for our dollars. Also, if rumors/information are to be believed, 6nm scheduling is wide open all things considered (Compared to 7nm).

Any game releasing in the next two years already has its SKU support dialled in. Those decisions have already been made. It's not like Ragnarok has been built for the PS5 the last 3 years and then they'll decide to make it a PS4 game as well due to the shortages. They'll either delay release in lieu of a higher install base or release as planned. You've also lost a year on most titles due to COVID etc. There's hardly a AAA game releasing that hasn't had some form of delay these days. They aren't elongating support, the games for those SKU's are just being pushed into later launch windows.

Consoles are captive audiences. What you going to do? Sell your PS5? Go elsewhere?

Like I was just saying.....I dont see the problem for supporting both last gen and current gen.

Like its always been.

Miles is in the top 10 on PS5, not even listed for PS4. Its been in the top 5-10 on PS5 since it launched....
RE Village sold the most on PS5.

What does that tell you?

Those PSN download charts are interesting too for other games...

Let's be realistic. The old gen consoles still have power to support indie, AA games and the odd cross gen AAA game.

It amazes me how current gen consoles are beasts that will have it's power unutilized most of the time when playing the run of the mill 8 or 16 bit throwback indie.

Old gen machines should be just fine even by 2022, he'll even 2023 delays and all.

Even though PS5 has supply issues, it's still selling record console numbers. In other words, the adoption curve of next gen hardware is no worse than it was in all past generations. The fact that even more people want it than they can provide doesn't change this or demand a change "to survive". They can use the same balance of new exclusive games and support for last gen, that they have since PS1 to PS2, and be fine.

Like it was that rare for many games to come out on both PS3 and PS4. This is not a new thing or a big deal.

I mean yeah, the ps4 and xbox one are probably gonna get another 3 or 4 years worth of support, the ps5 and series x cycle will probably last ten years to compensate

I don´t have a PS5 yet still i prefer they forget about last gen. That jaguar CPU crap sucks and HDD. I prefer they release games only for next gen. Look at what happen to CP2077. Let´s think if they would forgot about last gen and release CP2077 on next gen and pc only. Even before release i know it was going to run like crap on last gen base consoles.

I mean, even with shortages it’s outselling the PS4 in terms of the launch timeframe. That would be really shitty to look at a game like, lets say, ratchet and clank that can’t run on last Gen and go “ok PS5 guys you can’t have it until we can get production up even though it’s ready.”

In terms of last Gen support, both are currently doing it? Horizon is cross Gen, Halo is cross Gen, and I guarantee some others are.

This is total BS. Horrible sales on next-gen games due to lack of hardware/installed user base? You ignore all facts, including those pointed out in this very thread, that PS5 adoption is on par OR BETTER THAN the PS4!!!

There is NO lack of people buying the new gen. The problem is that they are producing every single unit they make instantly, even though that's more units than they had PS4's during the same period.

Imagine if the PS4 came out, and sold the exact same numbers, but there were way more people who wanted one who couldn't get it. Should they have curbstomped PS4 development and made more PS3 games instead?

Get a grip man. Embarassing.

For Xbox, last gen can suck a dick. PS4 and Xbox One were underpowered from the jump and then the gen lasted 7 years--three years too long. They need to be killed. We don't need those underpowered CPUs and slow hard drives holding back games.

Sony has always supported their previous console while the new one is out. The good thing this time around is, even Microsoft is doing that now (and some might argue that they are doing a better job given that they promised for the first 2 years games will be cross-compatible but how true this remains we'll find out when new/fresh first party games start coming out, but given how dynamic/competitive the gaming landscape is, that could very well change.)

To clarify, I don't mean forcing next-gen games to support old gen as the criteria of supporting previous gen; this time things are a little different - what might have counted as supporting previous gen, based on things both companies did differently this time, may not count now.

Jaguar cores brought the evolution of physics and animations in games almost to a halt. It's time to move on with high frequency Zen 2 cores present in new consoles

Sony has sold close to 8 million PS5 consoles plus most of the first party games on it are now $70. While the install base of the PS4 is bigger, Sony can still make money with launching PS5 exclusive games right now.

At some point the next gen consoles will become easier to find so they have to cut the cord on past gen eventually. But clearly, most companies are being patient because most of the big games that have come out in the last 6 months have all been released on both next gen and current gen.

As a normal person who sits 10+ feet from my TV, I attest that my Vader PS4 sometimes sounds like a jet engine.

I don’t believe that for a second. Is your volume turned all the way down and is there a disturbing lack of noise in your home that you can hear a mouse queef?

How close do you fuckers sit to your systems? Holy shit. I’ve never once heard my system fan making noise because I’m a normal person that sits 8+ feet away from my TV. Try it sometime.

I'm about 3 meters away from my screen, but even if i was 6 meters away from it, i would still hear it. some fuckers have hearing problems I hear.

In the reviewtechusa’s last video there was actually a mention from Sony that they’re bumping up the production of ps4’s to compensate for the shortages of PS5’s.

And xbox clearly has no intention on dropping XB1 anytime soon.

which as a retailer it’s kinda fascinating to see the contrast between the two: when RE8 came in for example, we got three sku’s. ps4, PS5 and Xbox (just simply Xbox. the Xbox one and Series are the same sku)

Dude, i agree with what you said, its reasonable. But that won't be a popular opinion around here.🤭

There are other reasons for cross gen, we aren't in the PS2 days anymore when all companies released a bunch of graphics defining games in the first 6 months of a new system release, realities or complexities of game development have changed. Even making ONE S graphics is insanely expensive, the current userbase of this gen consoles is so low to support the massive budgets. Thus cross gen development is expected for the first year or so, and maybe more with COVID around.

However, next gen only games are as important to establish a new userbase move and excite people so a healthy mix of cross gen and new gen is the best way to go imho, games like Demon Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Returnal are essential as well 👍

While funny, I have to throw in with them. My Pro's were quite loud. Well the first was jet engine loud, and got to the point it'd overheat playing Death Stranding. I eventually got one of the newer models which is better but slowly the fan noise grew worse. Its one of the reasons I play more demanding games on my PS5 despite the space limitations. Many of my memories playing co-op in The Division 2, Destiny 2, Monster Hunter World and FFXIV with friends was we'd constantly hear each others fans going overboard. I have a decent apartment, sit about 8-9ft away and the system(s) are well ventilated. Its just a design flaw. Its so bad my best friend boxed up his PS4 and is using the SX right now.

Also, my neighbors are fucking loud as hell, screw them.

Sony is selling the ps5 at record numbers though. I could understand if they were barely selling consoles. Now I don't think Sony will hit that 30 million switch number this year but at least 15 million. I'm still waiting to get a ps5 but I'm not paying those scalper numbers.

I expect we will see a lot of games still coming out on PS4 and XBOX ONE because the install bases are large and established already.

Fair enough let me just go to Walmart right now and go get a PS5 and let me sell my Series S. Hold on. I'll check back with you in 2 years.

People should calm down. Where is the rush really ? Anybody who has a PS4 or an Xbox One can still enjoy a ton of games.

NieR Replicant has just been released. Awesome game. No need to have a Series or PS5 for this. There aren't enough good reasons to buy a Series or PS5 right now.
