Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s latest trailer may hint at the game coming to PC

wait until they realize that insomniac is not coding the game on PS5s

Wait until they all realize that to develop a game it first must start on PC. But yeah it's hilarious.
This... t-t-t-this c-can't be truuuue!!!!

Well I do really want to play Ratchet and I don't have a PS5 yet. If the game comes out and it's available on PC I would definitely play it on mine. Just like I would do with Demons Souls but unfortunately I haven't seen pre-orders for the PC version yet.

I guess I could try playing the PS3 version with an emulator but that wouldn't be as nice as the remake.

It's going to be the guess what game comes next, but I have a feeling the release window will be extremely short between the games. That's alot of games to push out. Maybe we'll even see day and date before the gen is up.

ReBAR is already active on RTX30 GPUs.
RTX I/O and DirectStorage should be already in devs hands and by the time this or any game that requires anywhere near PS5 SSD speeds to actually run it should be in all our PCs anyway.

"All our PCs", lol. I love the GAF parallel universe where everyone has a high-end gaming PC. That is NOT the case in the real world. Do you really think Sony would release a PC game that REQUIRES a super fast SSD and an RTX30XX with DirectStorage? Not gonna happen, so they'd have to redesign the game to work with the super slow I/O of the typical gaming PC out there.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Just like I said in the other thread, it would be nice if the developers actually respond to some of the individuals asking for the quantity or data throughput per second at maximum, or on average.

It's weird for people to keep posting this without even knowing how much data is being sent per interval. Once we can get an idea, it can easily debunk all of the people claiming these things, as we would actually have factual data instead of assumptions. Some people are even claiming ps5 is maxed out already, and running at max speed for the SSD.
It would help if some of yall would stop latching on to the wilder claims about the PS5.

Would really help the discussions.

Amazing how you ignore the truth once more lol. I’m not even going to reply on you anymore, once more. Many people game not using steam, probably much more than people that are using steam because you know what? They have crap PCs and can only play browser games or whatever. And why wouldn’t that be gamers, maybe they’re even more gamer than a steam member, maybe they game 13 hours a day in an Internet cafe in China. You really have zero ability of seeing further than your own pcmr pc.

We're talking about this game releasing on steam. How the fuck are you talking about pc's without steam, if you would need steam to run the upcoming Sony titles?! I get that you want to argue for arguments sake, but at least bring something relevant to the table.

On the flip side, I'd try and argue semantics and irrelevant shit if I was proven wrong, had nothing else to argue about, and had my pride hurt... But since I'm not in that predicament....

No business in their right mind would look at a 20% figure of their overall sales data and think

"Nah, that don't matter"

And no, you weren't using "really" in the context of varying importance. We both know what you actually meant so stop it
Yes I was and my post stands as correct. The only console whose exclusives are really important are Nintendo. You think you douchebags make up the majority of Playstation owners? hahah fuck most people i know own a ps4 and none of them are nearly as just abrasive and toxic as you bunch. STOP TELLING ME WHAT I MEANT
I dont give a fuck how you took it. Once I explain thats the end. Its no longer about how you feel so fuck off.

I don’t know some people were so hot and bothered with the idea.

I thought all PS players had “beefy PCs” where they play all of their multi-plats on max settings 🤠

I don't, but luckily I can play the game the thread is about on a PS5.

Alrighty, i'll let you tell you what you really meant, from a different thread

Switch proving exclusives matter... If you are Nintendo

It's okay to be wrong. Take it as a lesson and stop being a little bitch about it

Pretty much. People are too busy arguing whether it can or can't run on PC, but that's not really the issue. Releasing a game that requires an RTX card or SSD or tons of RAM to pre-load levels as minimum seems pretty unlikely. Of all the games likely to get a PC port soon, this doesn't seem it. Maybe in 2-4 years where RTX is the norm and everybody is on a fast SSD.

Exclusives are important on PS5 and that's why this isn't happening.

Well this is why I own a PC and PS5, port-begging for games has never appealed to me and I don't wait years and years for games to be maybe ported.

😁 If people wanna play R&C anytime soon they are just gonna have to sell their souls like everyone else to get a PS5. Some games will remain exclusive to Playstation consoles and this looks like one of them. In maybe 5 years when the PS5 sales have dried up and everyone has much beefier PCs with SSDs and RTX cards then maybe it might get ported.

That is not what I said at all, not even close to it. I can't even figure out where you assumed that from. It could be 50 megabytes per second, 500 megabytes per second, 5 gigabytes per second. You don't know, I don't know, none of us know.

So you don't really know a "mid range pc " could in fact run the game as good given you also don't have the facts as you said above to make a judgement either ?

I don't think it's trolling to say the game was built for the PS5s I/O. Any I/O system on PC has to give a similar level of performance in order for it to work. I don't really know when that will happen since some of the I/O stuff for PC isn't even available yet.

No I'm quite confident that's a misquote. Just before that he said they load sections like Spiderman. So only the West side of the map and not the East. They aren't unloading things on a frame by frame basis if you do a 360. That's just dumb design. If you stare at the ground you think everything else goes away?

We unload the things literally behind you from a camera perspective.

PC has always ran games better. This is not really up for debate, as history has always repeated this. We could put this to test if the game came out on both platforms on the 11th, or if the devs actually have an answer to how much data is being transferred per interval. Same with Epic devs, if they would have just released the UE5 demo on PC already, the performance can be easily assessed right than and there. This could be coincidence or up to marketing. I'm sure if no money was exchanged between Sony and insomniac or Epic, it could more likely be the former. If there has been, than I'm siding with the latter.

Before you jumped in, we were talking about PC gamers hardware specs. It's hard to imagine some people interject just to end up being completely wrong. Why would someone even talk about playing a game on a computer with an iGpu, at their workplace? Further more, how would you play the game without steam installed?! Talk about falling flat on your face.
That's funny. If you were talking about PC gamer hardware, why did the person you were having a conversation with kept reminding you that he's talking about avg. pcs that people have (even the screenshot he shared is evidence of that)?

Regardless, the question isn't if a PC can play a game like R&C; what PC will I need to have or a person need to have in order to play it?

I've always been into gaming and in the past, when I tried gaming on the PC, I could never get games I was interested in running on PCS so at the time I simply gave up on PC gaming. As for your silly question of running a game without steam installed? Well, I'll just download it from GOG. :D

Just need actual facts mate that's all no waffle so you don't have the actual data to back up your claims or not then ?

Your telling people they are wrong and requesting the data from Devs all the while claiming a mid range pc can run the game but in reality your in the same position as the people claiming pc can't untill that data actually comes out you just don't know .

Let's use logic here for a second. Unless the ps5 i/o is being maxed out, and that is highly unlikely, as UE5 is much more complex, than you can bet your ass this game will run on a mid range PC, and more than likely better. Mid range GPU is a 3060 Ti/3070 and those have performed better than a ps5 in comparisons.

Yeah and I saw what W Werewolfgrandma was talking about.

Do you have an example?

Spider-Man is an open-world title. We built all of this tech to stream that open world as you go through it. When you’re downtown, there’s not much Midtown in memory. You can see it from a distance, but then as you go farther north, we pull in those areas. No Ratchet game has ever been constructed that way. They’ve always been: here’s a level, load the level, now you’re in that level and you play it. But by switching over the Ratchet world to use that same streaming architecture, we can pack more and more density and content and quality in every corner of a Ratchet & Clank world, because we’re happy to ditch the west side of Nefarious City when you go to the east side, and that type of thing.

To sum it up in the old Ratchet games you have to load up the entire level.

Rac_03_15_map.jpg

With Rift Apart that loading is limited to a much smaller area. Like maybe only 25% (for example) of the map gets loaded. And as you move through the level more of the map gets loaded and some of it gets deloaded. This is thanks to the vastly increased speed of the I/O.

Now this was said later on in the interview.

That’s a nice bonus. We unload the things literally behind you from a camera perspective. If you spun the camera around, we could load them before you see that. That lets us devote all of our system memory to the stuff in front of you right now, that you need to experience in that moment.

With that said I'm not sure if they are unloading everything behind you but at some point they can just dump it from memory which I highlighted in green.

I'm guessing there's some assets that they can load instantly as you turn the camera around while others might need to remain in memory.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I understand what's being said.

Edit: Like an enemy that's attacking you from behind and the other that just died for example. You would need to keep the attacker in memory while the other can just be dumped from it.

Just as they masked the near instant load times of returnal, miles morales and demons souls you mean? Sure... lol. The whole point is that you don’t have to mask loading anymore and games play like a cartridge game concerning loading times, and we can see with ps5 exclusives that this is exactly the case.

Ok Mr developer. I guess you already know how it works

Well not to most PlayStation users. By sales data anyway. You can pretend it is here all you like though. Enjoy.

Dude literally says this is exactly how it's done. He then goes on to say the camera thing. You know in these games you move towards new areas? You might say move from West nefarious city to east. In that case East would be behind the camera.

I was right with Spiderman. I'm right here. Only thing is none of you will bring it up again once you are shown to be wrong.

Very abrasive. Much toxic.
Looks pretty nice and sweet to me. Maybe you like a bunch of morons not reading previous posts, and taking things out of context, or just using their feelings to win an argument about facts. I don't, but I always stay nice and sweet

I don't expect it, but would be sweet. It kind of make sense. Sony has to focus more on money making than MS right now.

Ok Mr developer. I guess you already know how it works
Maybe you could listen to what devs of demons souls said about the subject, and ratchet, and you can also take a look at the actual games and gameplay. Demons souls devs confirmed they even had to add the cloud effect when respawning because it would be weird to just instantly revive on another place, and they also said they have scenes in the game that sreams more than 4gb/s while you’re playing.

The ratchet devs say they stream and render only what is in front of you and unload what is behind you at the same time so you can use your precious ram for only things that you can actually see and experience. I’m sure the data streaming is also much higher than 4gb/s in scenes since scene complexity is much higher even than Demon Souls and we already know how amazing that game looked.

For spider-man you can see the difference as well especially vs ps4, where before some scenes loaded in like 10 seconds it takes less than a second on ps5 including better gfx and higher scene complexity and longer draw distances.

If you are using all of your RAM.. and have to load things as you turn your head...

Where exactly do you think those things go, in RAM? They go where you've unloaded things.

The question really is how often that is happening and how much are you actually loading/unloading. That's what nobody knows but the devs.

So your guessing then that's ok its good to speculate mate and that's all we can do until we get the cold hard facts.
Not guessing, more so logical conclusion. The ones who are saying this actually present a logical argument vs those who just say it can't run with no explanation. Again, we will know from the UE5 demo as there more data throughput going on, it will be releasing soon on PC, and we can deduct differences in quality, resolution, framerates, etc. Plus there's a listing for 44 games from Sony on steam. Maybe this will be one of them, which will give us a definite conclusion, if UE5 still has the same people doubting.

What I got from the interview is that they are loading and unloading some things as you turn the camera around. They couldn't do this before due to the I/O being really slow. This would allow them to save on memory and use the resources for other things like higher assets. If there's one thing we can a agree on is that game looks really good and I'm sure the I/O played a big part in their memory management.

UE5 doesn't actually render billions of triangles either.
No?
"The 'Lumen in the Land of Nanite' demo includes a close-up on a statue built from 33 million triangles with 8K textures. It's displayed at maximum fidelity within the scene, with no developer input required. Moving into the next room, the demo wows us with almost 500 of those same statues in place (485 to be precise), all displayed at the same maximum quality. That's 16 billion triangles in total, running smoothly in-scene. It sounds impossible, but what next-gen delivers are the tools to deliver on an age-old rendering vision that seemed unattainable - until now. Along with other media outlets, we were pre-briefed by Epic Games and had the chance to put questions to CEO Tim Sweeney, CTO Kim Libreri and VP of engineering, Nick Penwarden."

Eurogamer completely misunderstands the technology, this article is way off.

There are that many source triangles; those triangles are then scaled down much smaller for disk storage, and then even smaller for rendering.

The crazy high detailed stuff is imported into the engine tools, not used by the game directly.
