Naughty Dog's BEST PS4 Game - One Last Tribute to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Man, rewatching this just reminds me how awesome this game is. Yeah, certain parts are definitely a SLOG to play through (intro and house sequences), but it also gets SO MUCH RIGHT with the story, characters, and feeling of adventure.

I will admit - I have ALWAYS been more of an Uncharted fan than a TLOU fan. I prefer the adventerous indiana jones vibe to the dreary, played out, post apocalyptic setting in TLOU. I also much prefer the more responsive controls, fluid and fast combat. Feels way more fun to play. Don't get me wrong, TLOU is great at what it sets out to do, but it's not what I prefer.

I really hope ND releases a 60FPS patch for this, as I'm itching to play it again. And I REALLY hope their next game is Uncharted or an Uncharted-like title.

Nah, TLOU2 blows it out of the water. As technically brilliant as it is you can tell they weren't as excited to make it once they had a new more exciting series. It's not even the best Uncharted on PS4. That honor belongs to Lost Legacy. Much more charming characters, better use of the open world, more stunning set pieces and better pacing. ND are done with Uncharted. Someone else is going to take over making those games. I predict their next game after Factions will be a brand new IP with gameplay far removed from their past games.

I don't even think Uncharted 4 was the best Uncharted last gen.

Looking back, TLL is good at what it is (better paced, I agree)...but it's not on the same level as UC4 in terms of everything mentioned.

I feel like UC4 is a perfecting ending to the current Nathan Drake character arc. A fun romp around the world with big set piece moments, puzzles, great combat, and awesome places to see.

Ranking the series, I think this is the correct order:
  1. Uncharted 2 (Perfectly paced, perfect spectacle, lovely soundtrack, massive improvement over 1, so many good vibes)
  2. Uncharted 4 (Wonderful end to the character arc, longest in the series, many locations, great story/characters and gameplay)
  3. Uncharted 1 (Still have nostalgia for this, the first PS3 game that genuinely WOW'd me)
  4. Uncharted 3 (It's still Uncharted and fun to play through but the story is the weakest here and it's not nearly as cohesive)
If we include The Lost Legacy it's probably around Uncharted 1 for me, but I didn't include it on the list. Uncharted 2 REALLY is the perfect game. Perfect length, no section slogs on for too long, the improvements over the previous version were utterly massive, and it was just a fun joy ride start to finish. Uncharted 4 isn't too far behind, but it could have used 1 or 2 more set pieces and probably cut out a lot of the walk n talk slog.

Honestly, this is a strange thing to say...but with how far Insomniac games has come as a studio, I really think they'd do an amazing job at making an Uncharted game. They have the production values, the studio efficiency, they just get it.

I loved this game at the time but looking back it's the first domino to fall in naughty dog's journey towards making interactive movies rather than games.

I think I agree, it's when ND went a little TOO far...but in spite of that the experience is amazing.

It's a wonderful first playthrough but UC4 and TLOU2 are difficult to play on repeats. I hope they can manage to find better ways to infuse story into the gameplay experiences by not having so many slow "experience" slogs where you do nothing.

My favorite is still uncharted 2 and the lost legacy.
Although I enjoyed the fact that with uncharted 4 we get a more mature Nate. I have issues with some of the plots of the story

we can’t compare the last of us to uncharted, 2 different games.

With Uncharted, we always assume the hero will go on an adventure to defeat the bad guy while the hero makes some jokes.

the last of us on the other side is just a wee depressing, we have humans trying to survive while their focus is destroying each other…

Yeah it was going for the platinum that really made me realise. A fantastic one time experience but not really a great 'game' if that makes sense? Once you've enjoyed the dialogue once, holding forwards to walk slowly during exposition kind of loses its appeal.

I felt TLOU2 was better in the long run, but UC4 was great as well. I hope they do a PS5 patch but Sony are way behind in that regard so I'm not holding my breath

I can play UC1 and UC2 repeatedly no issues. Perfect pacing. No walk n talk slog. They really need to get rid of that crap and/or tone it down massively.

I agree with this, as much as loved Uncharted 4, but it was the only Uncharted game that i played only once, i played and finished 1 and 2 like 4 to 7 times, but couldn't have the will to replay Uncharted 4, LL have a better pacing tho, so that's a sign that they can still make an Uncharted with good pacing.

I’m not debating tlou2 being better than uncharted 4, I’m undecided on that frankly, but I think your point about them not being excited to make it is odd. The game was fantastic all the way through and you can tell a ton of passion went into it. Also you kind of hurt your own point by saying the lost legacy was much better considering they made that uncharted after 4.

No, I didn't. The "B" team at ND made Lost Legacy. I think they had more excitement because it was their first project and they got to explore a new set of main characters. I think the "A" team wanted to give Nate a good send off but just so they could wrap up the series and get back to The Last of Us.

I think tlou2 is better to be honest. Just bigger scale and offers a deeper experience.

That being said, uncharted 4 got me back into single player games, so it'll always hold a special place. It's a great game but pacing could be better at times. Imo uncharted 4 and lost legacy are the best uncharted's.

I dunno how you can even suggest that there's no excitement in UC4. That project is a labor of love and it shows.

TLL just cuts out the fat, but it's really not on the same level as a whole. It's smaller, and it's fine for what it is.

Not really sure I agree about depth. But this will come down to personal preference. Do you care about responsive action? Or do you care about visceral grit and violence?

I prefer the former.

I recently replayed it, and it is still one of the worst paced games ive ever played. Every time it starts to pick up, they throw an hour long walking and climbing section your way. there are a good 3-4 chapters in this game where you do nothing but walk and climb for almost 45 minutes. its insane.

I also didnt care for Sam at all in this which is weird because i loved him in lost legacy. I almost wish we got Amy's version of a bitter brother who forces Nate to go back to treasure hunting (you left me for dead....you OWE me!) instead of one who simply lies about it.

I also didnt like Elena's character assasination. She's an adrenaline junkie herself. not a housewife. Dont really like how the last half of the game turned into a marriage counseling session between the two. thats not uncharted. it's too sad. its too serious. its not supposed to be the last of us.

one of my friends mentioned how they shouldve had little drakes running around with you treasure hunting. kind of like The Incredibles. the reveal at the end where you see that Elena and Drake never stopped treasure hunting but kept it a secret from their daughter was really weird.

I dont know. there were very few setpieces, bad puzzles, shooting felt great but not fun because enemies had laser aim which meant you played every gunfight in black and white even on normal. it felt like the first draft of a game.

Lost Legacy on the other hand is perfect. they actually used their open world chapter to do something with it. the puzzles were great. the characters had way better banter than nate and sam. the setpieces were insane, and it felt great to finally play a game that doesnt overstay its welcome.

I agree that the pacing is problematic in UC4, but that sense of adventure was pretty unrivaled. I loved the globetrotting. I loved getting to Libertalia and then New Devon and finding out about the history of what transpired after the fact. I personally didn't mind the story bits. They managed to get Elena and Sully back in an interesting way that created character development, and managed to make Sam appear out of nowhere but feel like he belonged to the series.

TLL just doesn't have the same feeling. It's absolutely great, but the story is just not nearly as strong, the production isn't as grand. It's understandable since it's a stripped down title. But if you get rid of the poor pacing in UC4 then it's still the better game that keeps you more invested into the overarching story.

I prefer either or. But overall I felt tlou2 was just wider scale. A lot more variety in animations and gameplay, environments, sounds etc. And I think the story offers something deeper and to think about more. But yeah, if I had to choose, I guess I prefer something more "grounded" and gritty than summery blockbustery. But I still love uncharted 4. I love uncharted 4 because it has more of a deeper story feel to me than the first 3 uncharteds. It truly was a great adventure as well

But still, overall, besides that tlou2 just feels larger scale. Of the same reasons why I prefer uncharted 4 over the three before. Just feels like a more richer game. But it really comes down to mood or the day of the week to be honest

Amazing game. Just started rttp on PS5. Only finished on slim and not.al pc monitor do now I get 1440p and amazing hdr.

I have few technical questions. Maybe someone can help:

For hdr I just calibrated lg C1 with hgig in PS5 system calibration. And I play uc4 with hgig. Seems it's fine as there are no hdr options, I presume uc4 is using PS5 system calibration values?

Hey any idea how to set up pulse 3d and 3d audio for bc game like uncharted 4?
If I leave 3d audio enabled in PS5 system, then uc4 defaults to surround headphones and 3d channels setting. This way it sounds great but quiet. I have to crank pulse 3d 1 step below max.

Just played co-op with a friend for the first time a few days ago - it holds up surprisingly well in terms of combat and visuals.

I would LOVE if this game got a 60FPS patch, it would be revelatory and really reinvigorate the game.

I’m about to playthrough Uncharted 4 to completion for the first time and I’m really looking forward to it! I was thinking about waiting for a 60fps patch on PS5 to start it again but I’m not sure how long it’ll take.

Unlike some people here, if you have actually played all the Uncharted games and not just pretended you have and know Uncharted, you would know Uncharted 2 was their best one.. It's not even a contest, this is just fact.

I recently played all of them (sans 3) and still think 4 is the best game, though 2 is still a good time. Much improved over 1.

Opinions aren't facts.

I played the whole collection on the PS4 and then Uncharted 4.
The last one is the best by far, IMO.
