Despite strong sales, Days Gone Steam numbers half those of Horizon Zero Dawn

You don't know shit.
You conveniently overlook whatever doesn't fit your bias.

I could drown you in a deluge of posts of console players pestering developers about getting any given game on their PS4, XBOX not to mention the motherfucking Switch port begging that I swear it must be even more endemic (and invasive) that cockroaches and mosquitos these days.
Hell, chances are you may even be part of it, yet completely oblivious to it.
Bias? Based on what exactly? So I’m guessing everything I read online and heard all these years was a big fat illusion and I got an agenda against all PC gamers, right? Come on dude. Yes, I’ve heard port begging on literally all platforms, but I said from my “observation” I’ve seen it most from PC players over the years.

Yeah that guy is on a role with his statements today. In another thread he said 'most gamers' hate Doom Eternal, Fallout 4, Outer Worlds, and a few others lol.
Some gamers did seem to hate Doom Eternal compared to Doom 2016, but I never said gamers hated Fallout 4 and Outerworlds. I simply said they didn’t set the world on fire either compared to the games that were listed by the poster.

Torrented Horizon when it came out, it was a horrible game, retarded story "huurrr you have been outcast from your tribe as a child find your true history alooooy" gave up some hours in and never returned to it.

I bought Days Gone on steam but refunded it once i read the EULA with a data collection shit not supporting that financialy. Its a shame since it looks interesting, will probably torrent it later on and just block the executables from the internet at my firewall.

To be brutally honest though, from my observation PC gamers are the masters of port begging. Look at all the begging for Bloodborne or God of War on PC for example.
Just wondering, but where have you seen most of this port begging take place? Was it on this site and other places like it? Like it or not, but this is primarily a board for console gamers in general, and those who focus on big-budget AAA games in particular. If this site attracts any PC gamers at all, it's the kind that has an interest in those types of games.

They exist, of course, but they're nowhere near the majority and can hardly be said to represent PC gamers as a whole. Yet, they're the kind of PC gamer console gamers are most likely to have any sort of contact with, which gave rise to the image of the stereotypical hardcore PC gamer who spends thousands of dollars on hardware every year just to play ports of AAA console releases.

The truth is, most hardcore PC gamers don't play console ports at all. They focus on one or two games that are either PC exclusive or developed primarily for PC (usually some sort of MMO like WoW or F2P multiplayer titles like League, CSGO, PUBG or Hearthstone) and end up playing little else for years or even decades. But you'll never hear from these people on Neogaf, because they have absolutely no reason to come here.

Mostly other gaming, entertainment and PC forums I used to post at and read over the years and even some more recent forums like Gamefaqs. Even heard it from some people I used to talk to. It never bothered me, but I just noticed it. You make some very good points.

Wtf???

What's 'retarded' about being an outcast in a tribe that's played well into the future of humanity?

Seems the only thing retarded about it was your opinion on it.

Makes sense to me. The zombie postapcalyptic open-world game about a gruff biker with the usual Ubi-bloat and a selling point being big zombie hordes just doesn't spark as much enthusiasm as Horizon. Especially when you have to go against TLOU2.

Tribal girl vs Robot dinosaurs is a much more creative setting, but also the game looks better, has an attractive protagonist, a lot more engaging gameplay loop and simply reviewed much better.
In what universe is fatty face aloy more handsome than sam witwer?!

I don´t really understand why people wouldn´t want Sony games on PC. I mean you still play a Sony branded game, just on different box. And the money i as a PC gamer spend goes towards funding future Sony projects.

The more money Sony make on their software the better for everyone who enjoy their games imo.

I really liked HZD...Days Gone did not grab me at all. I think the actual "hookability" of the games are at play here. HZD kinda grabs you by the balls with the awesome world and let's you go nuts. Days Gone takes forever to get going, and makes a really tame first impression.

Sony has my monies, so there's that at least.

I respect your opinion and it´s fun to hear how different people react to the same things. For me the build up and story telling is fantastic in Days Gone and after that it only gets better.

But i agree, Horizon is an amazing game too :)

Personally i would rate Days Gone 10/10. It has everything that caters to my taste.

Horizon is an 8.5/10 for me. Still very good but the deduction of 1.5 point is because of 2 things: The limited range where the tamed beasts could follow you and the mediocre "base overtaking". Still, everything else is AAA all the way (y)

I also have to mention the face animations during the dialogues in both games. Incredible stuff, Ubi has alot to learn here.

Are these PC ports even worth it for Sony? From what I remember, Horizon hardly sold gangbusters.
When your console now runs on x86 architecture, the same as pc… yeah makes sense, not only is easier to port it, it will make extra money and build a fan base for that game, also let’s not forget Sony does also movies and tv shows. Seeing how Hollywood is currently lacking inspiration… I am not surprised.

Since Sony didn't use Denuvo or any more advanced anti-piracy method the game sales suffer a lot more, such pity, I think Bend studios did an amazing job porting the game and I do feel they deserve to be more successful with it.

I know that a lot of friends didn't buy the game this time because they knew it will be cracked in the same day, most of them pre-ordered Horizon. Now because of the sales not only Bend studios might have a hard time given a new project a green light, but also Sony might think that PC is not a space worth pursuing. We vote with our wallets, is that simple.

Then prepare yourself for the bastion of fearless originality, Days Gone.

Sony ported their most mediocre games to PC. Try porting something people are asking for. We have been asking for God of War, The Last of Us and Bloodborne forever now.
You are right, it will not come. It’s a balance between making profit and making people who want to play those games that aren’t on pc… get a PS.

it’s business. I for once am glad those games got to PC… but people are never happy.

Horizon plot was some of the best scifi and lore from last gen, some people have shit in their brains.

Honestly im more inclined to purchase a game without Denuvo or invasive anti DRM measures which treat paying customers as pirates, while pirates get a cracked version with none of those hassles.

Denuvo didn't really gave me any grieve until now but I totally understand where you coming from. But it's known that the 80% of the game sales occur in the launch window, and for that to be as effective as possible the game can't be cracked at that time.

I didn't bother with it.

Not only was I super hyped for Horizon on PC, I was massively disappointed. I wish it had checkerboard rendering or DLSS. The game just didn't run well at launch and it soured me on Sony PC games.

I'm not interested in Days Gone, but since I have a PS5 and PS+ Collection it's another reason not to bother with the game on PC. The PS4 version on PS5 is more than fine at 60fps. PC doesn't offer anything to justify buying the game over playing the PS4 version (on my PS5) that's sat on my download list.

Right now I need a top exclusive that's not currently 60fps on PS5 to be considered with it.

If these games didn't do well on Steam it's because they're mediocre. Horizon was a shit port, and Days Gone received mediocre reviews on both PlayStation and PC. Microsoft's Halo, Sea of Thieves and Forza have sold like crazy on Steam, and they were already on PC trough Gamepass and Windows Store before getting there.

Yea true, I'm probably overestimating how hard it is to port it.

SOT has done well.. but we don't really know HZD sales.

It was estimated at 700k at launch.. SoT broke 1 million after about 2 months.

And SOT has mediocre reviews too lol

Sony's games are big SP experiences with no multiplayer.. those are rarely huge hits right out the gate.. especially old games priced 4-5 times what you could find them for on console (really, just be a PSN+ subscriber and you'd have the bigger Sony games.)

They'll likely do well over time numbers wise.. revenue a bit lower, but it's revenue.. and potentially gaining fans.

SOT reviews are based on the launch version. The game has come a long way since then, and content has been added. HZD and Days Gone are basically the same games.

Nah.. they aren't similar as far as gameplay mechanics goes at all. Nor in how the world progression works.. or.. really much at all outside of having cliche Sony narrative tutorials.

Drop Bloodborne, TLOU2, God of War, and Ghost of Tshushima, Sony. Those will do much better than these generic open world games.

Despite shit tier reviews, Biomutant has outdone Days Gone on Steam peak concurrency, and was almost on par with Horizon. I wonder how many refunds Biomutant is gonna have tho. Or PC gamers just don't give a single fuck about reviews (based btw).
Biomutant is actually bad-ass. I thought it was going to be weak but I'm actually surprised. And it's beautiful looking on PC. High res textures and some really nice lighting (point lights + shadows). I'm starting to like the RPG elements of it too. Best fur in a game but most games don't focus on fur.

Waste of time porting to PC.... always said it.

Jim and co are fools and are diminishing the value by loosening the strength of the term 'exclusive'.

PS fans need to rub Hermen and Jims face in this like you would do to a dog to toilet train them.....
These are games that are YEARS old they aren't doing launch day with PC unless it's a multiplayer almost free to play style game where they can get microtransactions from outside of just PlayStation players. This didn't start with Jim and Herman btw Layden talked about games going to PC when he was still there, this stuff was set in motion a long time ago. As long as they keep the AAA stuff console exclusives for a long time I have no problem with them milking a little more money and maybe even tempting some PC players to get a PS5 as well.

They rarely spend full price, but would scalp a graphics card for $1000-3000 in a blink of an eye. They play hardware bragging, not games. Then when you ask about their games it's mostly indies and cringy games.
1000 euro graphic card to play Terraria.... Fuck I have done that also, build a near 1500€ pc and first game to play was starbound hahaha

Releasing games on PC is a waste of time and resources.

Insignificant market rampant with piracy.

Guarantee you more people are playing this pirated than actually buying it.

Sony should have atleast put denuvo on their games especially considering they are single player experiences.

What you talking about? The only people who think the PC market is significant are PC only gamers. The reality is 30,000 people purchased the title worldwide on PC to date.

Horizon is more popular in general, but I think some people might have been put off by the quality of Horizon's port and weren't that interested in buying Days Gone at full price. I hope it continues to sell well, it's a great game.
