HBO has found the actress that will be playing the character of Marlene in its upcoming The Last of Us TV series, and it just so happens to be the same person who had the role in the video game series. Merle Dandridge, who originally played Marlene in both The Last of Us games has now signed on to play the character once again.

Within The Last of Us, Marlene serves as the leader of the Fireflies, which is a resistance group that rises up in the wake of the world's zombified outbreak. In many ways, Marlene sets the actions of the game--and now TV show--in motion when she hires the main protagonist, Joel, to smuggle a young girl by the name of Ellie across the United States. From here, Joel and Ellie become attached at the hip and the events of the story begin to take shape.

Too bad they're not going to cast Annie Wersching to play Tess since she's an attractive redhead irl. ;)

nags about this whenever you have the chance,

Naughty Dog needs to hurry and make a Savage Starlight game and then a movie so they can cast Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana before they are too old just like Nathan Fillion and Ellen Page.

It'd be great if Pedro Pascal's interpretation of Joel was an impersonation of Antonio Banderas'.

This comment is trash. And you can't wait to see a trainwreck for what reason? What there would be to celebrate? The idiocy unjustified of such attitude?

Not surprised to she your hateration in here.

I'm not even hating it for political reasons, which I guess is why you both are so triggered.

But the casting for Joel and Ellie is completely horrible and when the two most important characters are so miscasted, then what else can you expect?

But sorry if I hurt your feelings.

He turned down the role of Drake. He doesnt like movies based on Video games.

And they are never making that game.

Fugly Pedro Pascal(first big series staring role dude had to wear a mask most of the time)

And some kid actress from GoT, the one with the scale skin I think

bro... you hate on the viper? He was great on GOT where his face is in full view. Dudes great

Awww that sucks about Pratt not wanting to star in video game movies. But glad he turned down the role of Drake, there are better options. ND may not make Savage but i'm still holding out for a sci-fi game from Naughty Dog. David Jaffe said that Naughty Dog and Cory Barlog are rumored to be working on Sci-Fi games.

According to information posted by insider DanielRPK, HBO reached out to mega-star Matthew McConaughey about playing Joel.

Before Pascal signed on to the project, reports claimed Blade star Mahershala Ali was circling the role, and while he was offered the part, he decided to pass on it. Now, it’s unclear whether HBO went to McConaughey before or after Ali declined, but the reason for the network’s interest is clear.

In The Last of Us series, Joel hails from Texas, where he lives with his daughter Sarah when a mutant fungus begins to ravage the United States. McConaughey, of course, is a native of the Lone Star State and attended the University of Texas before beginning his acting career in the early ’90s.
