GAF Throwback: Aloy looks a little off.......

To be fair, if someone likes attractive women then they probably would want to see more of them, not less.

Do we have modern games with attractive dudes?

I don't think people are upset that Horizon isn't the kind of material that you can wave your spam javelin at.

I think there is a sense that behind the scenes some publishers and developers are making an conscious effort to ensure that their female characters cannot possible be accused of being designed for "the assumed straight male gamer". That's what might annoy people.
for years our people had to deal with flat ass Nate Drake from uncharted… joking but it’s true.

I’m sure people will survive with a woman who doesn’t fall on that Hollywood “ideal of beauty”.
Yes I understand that games are fantasy but after all that 21st century feminism view on video games that turned into that mess… I doubt any company wants to be involved in that type of drama.

Ps. Feminism on the 20th century was about women, what we are calling in this era feminism is not that, it’s just women hating men… thus making even more friction.

At least we don't have a Halo Infinite mess on our hands. A few tweaks to the cheeks/jawline and everything would be fine.

Hey Guerilla Games - I will consult for FREE. Just shoot me a message. :messenger_beaming:
They also messed up with the FOV,

She looks a bit off but it's mostly the dumb hair, which looks like a giant turd. It didn't look good in the first game but now it stands out even more because of the chubby face.

The design isn't that horrific and you won't see her face for 80% of the game.
Aloy looks like a dude.

Are you inferring I'm an Xbox fanboy?

Absolutely nothing wrong with the first post. The prices for PS5 games are obscene.

Second post is factually correct

Third post was sarcasm

But great to see you have so much time on your hand that you are happy to dissect my post history with a microscope. Great job buddy.

Again, you're conflating how we should treat and judge people in real life, versus how we should view fictional characters in art. Those two aren't the same thing. It's perfectly fine to want an attractive lead for a game or a movie, while understanding you shouldn't judge people for being unattractive in real life.

Of course, even in real life, you are absolutely going to discriminate when it comes to something like choosing a partner, and that's obviously not shallow at all because it's merely an acknowledgement of what you find attractive or desirable, which as you admit is hard-wired. That's not some failing that needs to be overcome.

This whole movement in art, though, is coming from an ideological, deeply insecure feminist perspective that tries to subvert aesthetics, beauty and taste. "Seeing beautiful people makes me feel threatened and not good enough. Art is discriminating against me by having beautiful people in it. Let's make characters more plain so they more closely resemble normal women." Or the whole stupid "male gaze" thing, because God forbid a male looks at the screen and appreciates a beautiful, sexy or attractive woman. It's all nonsense.
Yep, I agree. I think I'm saying the same thing, basically.

That's why you should make your account private, there are some people here that have too much free time and they will look for hours in your post history to get you banned because you posted something two months ago that they didn't like:messenger_tears_of_joy:

There isn't any nuance when it comes to subjectivity or objectivity. It's either subjective or it isn't. Nothing is 'off' about Aloy. I'm not belittling your preferences either, I'm discarding its relevancy in its entirety.

They are, in an extremely cowardly, thinly-veiled way - snarkily comparing Aloy to JRPG females as if the latter is more palatable by the sole virtue of their explicit, licentious appearances. Tell me, did GoT's Jin Sakai get any threads like this because he wasn't some bewitching Greek adonis like Mass Effect's protagonist or some husky, grizzled hunk like Geralt? We never begrudge male protagonists for not being hot, but it's always a problem for females. It's disgusting.

No, the face isn't as important as the writing. I won't argue that a conventionally pretty face hooks some players in - as is evident from this thread - but for the retention of that interest, good writing is dozens of times more important. No one liked Rey's character from Star Wars, despite her more-than-good looks.

Over the blatant misogyny in this thread? Sure. I'm not afraid to admit that.

Dude. It's patently obvious that most people are seeing the differences when looking at the comparisons and coming to a similar conclusion. That's objective. All you have to do is conduct a survey to find out definitively. You are among the exception.

We are saying that her face looks fat when compared to the real life model. I'm not sure who's comparing her to JRPG aesthetic. Having a beautiful face isn't "licentious" or "explicit". 🤦‍♂️

It's likely to do with their face capturing tech. Or maybe some artistic licence to make her look more chubby?

Throwing around non sequitur like "misogyny" is belittling real misogyny. You are clearly triggered.

Jesus fuck, this thread is legitimately disgusting. The forced beauty standards are making me puke; it was the same ordeal as with Returnal. Just because the protagonist isn't your run-of-the-mill slut clad in spandex doesn't mean her standing as a character should suffer in any way shape or form. There are more pressing and important methods for a character to endear themselves to the player, the most prominent being the quality of writing. Are you guys weeping over the fact that Aloy doesn't meet your inequitable standards of beauty because your fear the lack of coom material on rule34? Grow the fuck up. She looks absolutely fine, and picking out the most uncharitable of frames to denigrate her doesn't serve your concerns at all. The funny thing is, I never saw any complaints about Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai failing to fulfill the pretty boy aesthetic, but when it concerns a female, it suddenly becomes an issue
First of all it's a freaking video game she does look off, she's a made-up character and people are joking about it.

Anyway you should post your reply on the other board they'd eat that shit up.

Sigh. You never disappoint internet.

May I suggest getting a real life sexual partner so you dont have to complain about not being able to fap to a female videogame character.

Jesus fucking christ people.

Yes its ok wanting to play or look at attractive characters, but some people are going way over the fucking line with their opinions. But yeah sure, dont play the game because you dont like her jaw line. To each their own.

Especially that one that called us all Misogynist

I don't understand they they scrapped the original design. Why is beauty considered bad in gaming (particularly western gaming) now? It's like they go out of their way to make the game worlds, characters, etc. look as ugly as possible. They claim it's "realism" or whatever but the real world and real people aren't that ugly.

Because we are paying $$$. imagine going to a strip club and the manager tells you that if you don't pay $500 for this fat ugly one arm 60 year old woman to dance on your lap then you are immature and sexist and should just go jerk off to porn instead.
Pretty crazy you compare women game characters directly to strippers. At least you’re honest I guess. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Simple answer: because she looks like a feminine woman and they wanted a strong woman, also they think strong= masculinity so they made her look like a man.

I pay money to enjoy both of them so they are the same to me🤷‍♂️

Of course they can make a better job but usually in-game doesn't get accurate reflection of the real thing. I blame Canon here, they should've went with Sony alpha in a fucking Sony studio. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

They need to start making all of the male characters in games look like McLovin then. I'm sick of these forced beauty standards where every single man in a game is a shirtless, jacked Chad with amazing genetics.

Aloy looks like she has aged a little from the first game. It's a sad fact, GAF, that most of us began adding a bit of weight after the age of 20. Some start even earlier than that. Metabolism slows. Aloy has simply aged a little and her face rounded out. It's not an odd shape. Her hair just isn't masking it because she has it tied back.

I personally don't like the tied back hair look on women but whatever.
Metabolism doesn't make you eat too much.

You've got to really gain weight to gain weight in your face.

How about...

If Guerilla Games had not disclosed/told that Hannah Hoekstra was the face-model for Aloy, would you have known/made that connection (I know I wouldn't have)?

What about Sylens, would people have known/made the connection that his face-model was Lance Reddick (I knew instantly, though not by name, but I could go to a movie/tv-show and be yeah there HE IS, also his voice ofc).

She never was model hot. Looked like a normal girl, still does with slight adjustments for better facial animation. By no means some ugly Bethesda rpg character face.

And this is me speaking as an utter coomer degenerate.

Get a fucking life if you are gonna cry about her face in Horizon 2.
