IGN: Xbox Year in Review

What question was there to answer? About Sony making multiplayer games? How stupid is that? There were are over 4000+ PS4 games, if I wanted to play a multiplayer game I would just play one of them. Is it supposed to mean more if it comes from Sony?

Or the other nonsense of Xbox with more friendly people communicating with us from the higher-ups? Who gives a shit? I don't need that or particularly want (and it seems the majority of gamers if you look at sales numbers and what brands are actually pushing the most content) or need that.

I mean this here is just.......... ahhhhh.
Sony is not known for their multi-player titles. They did not develop 4000 PS4 games. I hope you realize that. Your comment about it meaning more if it came from Sony should be mentioned every time a PlayStation fan complains about Xbox not having 1st party software. The Xbox has 1000s of games too yet they always go back to what MS personally developed.

With regards to who cares that MS communicates with their fans? Their fans care and people like Colin Moriarty and Jonathon Dornbush who host PlayStation podcasts also care. It's nice when you feel like the company that is supporting your hobby actually engages with you and appears like they are addressing your concerns. Again it goes into why Xbox has support despite the mistakes they've made with things like Kinect.

I agree with Playstation PR and media feeling sterile and boring.... very robotic. Particularly the female voice in the state of plays just does nothing for anyone it seems.

I miss the days of Shu and Gio Corsi and others being on stage, PlayStation experience etc.

Anyway, I appreciate the forthright response.
I appreciate your response as well. There is certainly a psychology to what people will gravitate towards. It's a multifaceted business.

Luckily for me, Colin Moriarty and Jonathon Dornbush DO NOT represent the millions of players worldwide...... thank God for that.

Please, MS are just like every other company out there and only true suckers by this open communication bullshit. But hey, if you want to be naïve enough to believe they are listening to you and not where the money goes and that makes them "MORE HUMAN" (seriously.....) good for you.

You know, comparing multiplayer ( a game type) to actual full games is hilarious. For you to even compare Sony's "lack" of multiplayer the Xbox's lack of games, PERIOD, is ridiculous.

Speaking of multiplayer, enough talk. Can you produce every single Xbox one game that has multiplayer that Xbox produced and then I'll try to do the same with Sony. All multiplayer games exclusive to each console. Let's tally them up and see who has more.

This shouldn't take that long considering (according to you) PS don't provide communities for their players to play together so Xbox should wipe the floor............right?

Are you willing?

It's really impressive how much Xbox coverage and discussion IGN has.... as well as several staff that you can point to and say 'they are passionate xbox gamers'.... including Ryan MCCaffrey, Destin (Who has his own Xbox channel on youtube as well) and previously Alanah Pearce was well known to be a Gears fan. The recent tweets from Justin Davis and Zach Ryan....

I look across the gaming media and see Jeff Grubb, Parris, Tom Warren, Jez Cordon, Thurrot, Brad Sams....

My question is 'why is Xbox so well served among the media and why do PlayStation fans only have Mystic Ryan and Colins Sacred Symbols to choose from?'
Those two I mention for PS coverage are self-made youtube channels too...... nothing like IGN, Gamestop or the Verge.....

Am I seeing this wrong? Please correct me if I am unintentionally portraying things inaccurately....
Sony doesn’t lean in hard on press or journalism really at all. They dont have any large numbers of leaks and appear at times more “safe.” Xbox is also leaning heavily into social media and trying to do the Wendy’s thing of having an edgy and memey Twitter feed which wins some people over.

I mean there’s also the small fact that Microsoft is known to pay heavily into journalists and online personalities to spread favorable opinion online (that tweet from an ign employee about playing Xbox every night and not bothering with ps5 in a month while having not played his Xbox in 2 weeks which is one of the most caught red handed instances of astroturfing we’ve seen in this industry ever). But we’ll ignore that part 😉

Pretty fair video.

I still can’t believe they launched a console with zero games. Unbelievable.

Still had a crap ton to play with Gamepass. And check this out- I was able to enjoy the games I played regardless of whether others could play them on PC or other consoles.

I think it shows the disconnect between gamers and journalists, the latter get all excited and hyped because they purchased a studio, and therefore it's been a great year for Microsoft. Like they forget gamers want games.

It is undeniable that the Xbox has a more human presence on social media. They regularly engage with their fans. There is nothing naïve about acknowledging reality. Take Quick Resume. People wanted wanted to see what was in their queue. They wanted to manage the feature. It took about 4 months but MS added the feature to the dashboard. That is a great example of listening to your fans and improving the system based on feedback. Don't know why you'd have a problem with that.

Now about the multi player X1 games...
Halos
Gears (2 games)
Forzas (Motorsport & Horizon)
Battletoads
State of Decay
Killer Instinct
Grounded
Sea of Thieves
State of Decay
Crackdown 3
Bleeding Edge

This doesn't count games that are multi platform like Wasteland and Minecraft (Dungeons). It also doesn't count games they put out before the X1 on 360 and OG X. It is clear MS was always about Xbox Live and playing together with other people. I don't know what you are saying about "PS don't provide communities for their players to play together". I am saying that Sony doesn't develop or publish as many multiplayer games as MS. Sony has been about single player experiences and the main reason to buy the system is for their single player games. MS' biggest games are multiplayer. It is the foundation of their platform.

From a new console launch perspective the Series S/X has been a 3/10, and this is coming from someone who buys Xbox first and buys all third party games on Xbox. Don't get me wrong, the Series X is amazing an amazing piece of hardware and quick resume has made me play more than I have in years, but the first party game situation has been bleak since launch. There are two things that have kept me playing a lot, and that is enhanced backwards compatibility and Gamepass (which has been a 10/10 for games since launch). I am quite disappointed with their first party output, and I hope that the next year is much better for that.

Agreed though I wouldn't rate it 3/10 personally because of the other positives going for it. If things were more traditional then absolutely.

Psychonauts 2, Halo, Forza (?), AOE... I think the back half of this year will be solid

Yeah, looking forward I'm super excited. I know I'm going to have a blast playing Halo Infinite, and I'm even excited to try Flight Sim. It's just looking back over the last 7.5 months that has disappointing from a first-party games perspective.

"I would give it a 5/10. Mediocre." Tell that to game pass owners using the xbox consoles. The series X/S are both great machines, really gutted amazon messed up my pre order for the X.

Judging by last generations' output MS hasn't been a major powerhouse of first party software in a while. I'm certain after all their studios get going that will change.

I fail to see how a subscription service available on the past console with all the save games but the medium saves a console launch.
