Tell Me Why is free to own throughout Pride Month

The studio behind Life is Strange released the game on Xbox and PC last year, and received general praise for its handling of LGBTQ+ topics.

Throughout the entirety of Pride Month (June 1 to June 30), Tell Me Why is free on the Xbox, Windows 10 and Steam stores. Players who claim it during this period will have permanent access to the game even when Pride Month is over.

The game stars Tyler and Alyson, a pair of twins to return to their childhood home following a traumatic event which led to the death of their mother.

Tyler is also a trans man, so as well as coming to terms with his own family tragedy, he also has to deal with how his hometown reacts to who he is.

“Since Tell Me Why’s release late last summer, the team at Dontnot and Xbox Game Studios Publishing have been humbled by and deeply grateful for the many gamers – especially trans and queer gamers – who have found understanding and hope in our game”, a message on the game’s website states.

“We’ve received heartfelt messages from players all over the world about how Tyler’s homecoming as a trans man and Alyson’s struggle with trauma have impacted them, encouraged them, or made them feel a little less alone, especially amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and pervasive transphobic rhetoric in places like the United States and the United Kingdom.

“Our intention in making Tell Me Why free for June 2021 is both to allow even more people to access the game and to encourage our players to spend their money in places that will directly affect trans and queer communities.”

Dontnod consulted various experts during the making of the game, including the non-governmental organisation GLAAD, to make sure the game handled its portrayal of LGBT characters was accurate and respectful. It also cast Aiden Black, a trans voice actor, in the role of Tyler.

I've been meaning to give this a go for a while since getting my series x. I've heard it's pretty good. Got too many games to play to begin with thanks to game pass. Good for them to share it for free all month.

Definitely worth picking up if you like the Life is Strange games, personally I'd rate them 1>BtS>Tell me Why > 2 but I enjoyed them all, my only real complaint with this game was it was pretty short, but I guess that's a good problem when you want a game to continue

I’ll give it a try if it’s free. Let’s hope it will give me more confidence on DontNod to make a good LiS3

Cheer on the corporate virtue signalling like an adult guys!
Nobody said anything about cheering it on. In fact, most of this thread to which my comment was referencing has absolutely nothing to do with the thread topic of the free game, just childish gay jokes that aren't even in the slightest bit funny unless you're a 12 year old, they're just embarrassing.

But sure, carry on deflecting with your straw man argument.

The state of this thread is embarrassingly childish, to be perfectly honest. Grow up, people.
What do you expect on gaf?

It's a site filled with idiots and warriors. (with some cool people here and there sprinkled in between)

On topic though, is this game worth the time to play?

Enjoyed LIS1 forever ago, didn't think much of before the storm, purchased lis2 but haven't had the desire to boot it up (purchased both before the storm and lis2 dirt cheap on sale ages ago)

How does it compare to the first life is strange?

Yeah you're right, not sure why I expected any different to be honest. I haven't played it yet but it's on the super long backlog to eventually be played. I think it's only 3 chapters though, so not a huge time sink even if you're only 'meh' about it.

It's nice to have new members, I can't help but wonder why you joined when you have such low opinions of people on here.

If only there was another game forum that caters mainly to sexual minorities and bends over backward to create a safe space where nobody could be offended.
