Battlefield 2042 won't have a campaign, will feature paid seasons

Yet we only get 7 maps? You'd think with no campaign they could spend that effort on giving us more content but this just seems like we get less value.
The game is designed from the ground up for next gen. They are supporting 128 players in one map. There is full scale destruction. Lots of new features.

I think we should wait and see just what the game looks and plays like. CoD Black Ops 4 had 20 maps. All shit. Gameplay was stale. Looked worse than MW. Played worse than MW. It was also $70 even though its last gen as fuck with just 16-20 player maps. No destruction. Just the same last gen gameplay we have been playing since 2007.

Lets not dismiss the studio who is actually trying to do something different.

From Jacksfrags video..

7 multiplayer maps. Larger than anything in the series before. The largest map in Antarctica is about as large as some PUBG map named Vikendi.

Battle Pass is free and paid. Free has everything gameplay related, paid is cosmetics. Battle passes/seasons will 'progress the story'.

Two other game modes to be revealed later. Hazard Zone isn't a BR but will be perhaps something like Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown with tight squadplay. DICE LA working on a "love letter" to Battlefield fans.

Sorry, I come from a time when you could just buy your multiplayer focused game and be done with it.

Enjoy your live service GAAS.
Yes you can do that lol. Are you new here?

GAAS = cosmetics only. All the specialists, weapons, vehicles, etc will all come to you for 'free' (after the initial 60$ price tag of course).

Why? Paid seasons are good. You get what you pay for. They did away with Paid DLC for BFV and Battlefront 2 and look at how poorly it was supported.

BF1 had paid DLC and they got 20 maps in just over 18 months after launch. BFV and Battlefront got maybe 5-6 maps.

You cannot expect developers to make 20 massive maps for free. That's not how things work. You get what you pay for.

I would rather pay for high quality maps than F2P shit that doesnt get supported. how many maps have Fortnite and CoD Warzone gotten?
Are you kidding? you'd rather have maps that only a fraction of the population has meaning long queues for maps that might still ultimately be shit. The problem is the developers not so dumb excuse like a battle pass.

Also the campaign being absent is kind of meh I suppose but on the flipside BF's mainline campaigns have always been shit and this also ensures more dev time spent on the mode that actually matters.

So, it's a standard Battlefield game before BF games had campaigns. I have no problem buying that. It feels more throwback-y to what the BF series used to be.

Hell, maybe it'll mean the gameplay focus will be even better as there is no campaign.

What are you on about? Maps behind paywalls? No dev is doing that any more. The fuck? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The fact the maps are so massive is pure insanity. Like multiple battle royal maps.

all of the BF campaigns other than Hardline were borderline dogshit... so no loss.

payed seasons tho... in a 70$ MP only game? that's kinda fucked at first glance

I don't care about Battlefield campaigns at all. But paid seasons on top of a full priced multiplayer game.
Get the fuck outta here!

read up instead of throwing in hot takes. the 'paid' seasons are only cosmetic. all operators, maps, gameplay etc, are free. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I'll take free gameplay stuff over the old BF Premium and COD Map pack shit.

I really don't get the bs "info" regarding BF. So much false things spread around. People think they have to pay for maps. The title of OP is also misleading. Paid seasons, yes for cosmetics.

Reading most of this thread I was like no, that is plain wrong. Lol

Game should have no issues with population. it's not battle royale that needs to have new servers filled up right away. BF games have 30 minute rounds and matchmaking should put you straight into a server. This is how BF games have worked since the beginning of time.

Last gen was the same. PS4 and X1 got 64 player maps while PS360 players had to settle for 24 players. They didnt even have crossplay like we do nowadays. And that game came out at launch. This is coming out a year later when next gen consoles should be around 30 million users. Plus all the PC players.

And like I pointed out above, season pass, paid DLC maps are essential in making sure you get a regular stream of content. If you dont pay, the devs dont owe you anything and will not support it. Please go back and tell me how many maps Titanfall 2, BF2, and BFV got compared to BF1 and all COD games that have paid DLC.

You get what you pay for. Devs dont work for free.

Ok let's be real, who play BF for the campaign ?
As for seasons, it's just another name for DLC's pack

Which back in the early days of BAttlefield were called expansions and were literally almost like playing a new game. What it is now is a grind fest to keep you into a service. There's a reason GTA V is the highest selling game ever, and thats because it was both.

The online was the online with giant groups and things to do, on top of custom communities.

Battlefield use to be just a multiplayer game with tons of mods/maps, and then would do worth while expansions. Now they want to drag it out and piece meal it.

I'll buy it on heavy discount.

Sounds like the game will get proper post launch support and continuous new content that is free unless you care about cosmetics. For the amount of hours I put into the series and how much fun the games are this all sounds ok to me.

I'll be having damn good time with this game.

If they do an Escape From Tarkov mode, the hype will be justified. That's the next logical step from BR's and Call of Duty is behind in this, Battlefield taking the reins might be cool.

Haven't bought BF since BF2, and don't see it change anytime soon.

Edit: Not quite true, bought Bad Company 2.

The campaigns were always forgettable. And after the disaster that was BFV I would rather their full attention go into the multiplayer and not waste resources on a campaign that the majority of the player base won't even play anyway.
Yep. They have sucked since BF3. We got 10 years of shit campaigns no one wanted to play. They were mocked and took resources away from the main game.

BF has always been about large scale multiplayer and they seem to be delivering on that front.

Jackfrags said that the biggest map is the size of a PUBG map. That's insane considering we are getting 7 of those maps. Warzone still has just one map a year after launch. I get that its free but thats what you get for free. One map.

BF 3&4 were belting but everything else has looked pretty bang average to be honest. Definitely think they’ve lost the lightning in a bottle. Season pass is ok in F2P games like RL, Apex and Fortnite and it’s been introduced in to years old games like Halo: MCC (unpaid) and Rainbow Six Siege but those games are £10 regularly, and not £70.

I’ll stick to Halo Infinite for my FPS needs this winter.

Not if your trying to find a full server under 50 ping especially one that rotates in DLC. Population splitting is always a problem in multiplayer games.

Im not saying devs work for free, im saying to put out content worth buying other than maps or scrape the maps all together and just make the next sequel. Buying maps that you wont be able to play in a few months is stupid

I believe he said there is no BR period which is going to hurt the game.

I dont disagree with the last part. As someone who bought the season pass for BF1, I always said that they should be made free once the next batch of DLC maps arrive. This way the hardcore will fund it and get early access for a couple of months and still find games.

DICE did do this with both BF4 and BF1 but it was too late. Like years after the DLC maps came out. It should be done pretty much within the first two months.
