Ninja Gaiden Master Collection: PC version does not appear to actually run above 720p

BIG EDIT: Problem solved! You have to right click the game shortcut, go to compatibility, then into change high DPI settings. In there you're going to check the box for overriding the high DPI scaling behavior and set the drop down to application. This fixed the issue in both Sigma 1 and Razor's Edge.

Original Post
So I recently installed Sigma and NG3 from the collection, and when playing them I noticed both seemed awfully low-res despite being set to 4k in Steam. I double-checked the window title and sure enough, they both said [4k] after the game name, indicating that the option selection was running.

When actually looking at the games, though, it's clear that they're not running at 4k at all. In fact, it seems to me that they're running at an internal res of 720p and the resolution option is basically just the "window" size.

Wtaf, thats complete garbo-trash, learn to PC japanese devs! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Can't they at least hire someone who is well versed in the things you have to consider when porting/working with PCs to look at the code and tell them how fucked it is and how to do things properly.

There is always bizarre shit like this that can seemingly be fixed in under a week in someones spare time, thank god for CookieMonster/SilentPatch.

OP, did you try disabling fullscreen optimisations in the properties for the .exe to make sure its not some windows scaling thing? What happens when you run it in a window?

Yeah i dont know what it is with Jaspanese devs and PC, but this stuff happens quite often. And like you said, once its known it gets fixed really quick, but didn they know beforehand? lol.

Agreed. Its why I tend to stay the fuck away from that stuff on PC and save my favorite Japanese stuff for PS and Nintendo.

Keep in mind, its not to say I don't want my friends to play Yakuza or Persona on PC, shit play the fuck out of that, but MOST Japanese publishers that port to PC, don't take such great care. They have a long way to go as PC in Japan just isn't that popular compared to console, handheld etc.

Just reading the Steam forums, and apparently Kotaku said its on of the laziest PC ports ever. Damn shame, and hopefully it gets patched.

EDIT. Apprently you can run higher resolutions, but you need to force it. Trying to get info.

CHANGING THE OUTPUT RESOLUTION
You can set the output resolution for playing this game.

Note: The resolutions below are supported.
1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, 3840 x 2160

To configure the resolution, open the game's Properties from your Steam® Library.By entering "720p", "1080p", or "4k" in the text field of "LAUNCH OPTIONS", you can fix the resolution to the corresponding value.
By setting the game to a low resolution, you can reduce the processing load.

Damn that fucking sucks. Thats one of my biggest gripes gaming on PC, is lazy ports. Granted we don't see the same crazy shit like we saw from Arkham Knight, its still hit or miss some times.

Lots of user reviews on Steam claiming its a piss poor lazy port too. I was undecided about getting it anyway but this has made my mind up.

To be fair, it seems to be mostly Japanese devs these days. Is PC gaming dead in Japan or something?

In most games, you're able to change the resolution via in-game settings. Not so in The Ninja Gaiden Master Collection. To set a specific resolution, you have to open the game's properties from your Steam library, and manually enter the resolution you want ("720p", "1080p" or "4k") in the text field of Launch Options.

Perhaps it has to do with this? Seems like a mess.

Any other game and I would be upset.

But it's Ninja Gaiden so it gets a pass.

As long as frame rate is locked. (30, 60 whatever)

These developers have no shame.

At least steam offers refunds, no reason anyone should have to put up with this crap, it's not 2006 anymore.

Man I feel bad for people who don’t have an Xbox trying to play these. It’s pretty embarrassing that the original titles running backwards compatible have more upgrades than a supposed remaster. The fact that they’re the inferior Sigma versions (well Sigma 1 isn’t bad, just makes pointless changes and Rachelle sections kinda suck), adds insult to injury.

Should have just hired Durante's studio to port the games if Tecmo's in house guys didn't know what they were doing.

What an absolute embarrassment. It almost seems like it's basically the PS3 version running in a wrapper. No graphical options or anything. With that said, I'm still extremely happy it's available for PC at least. I just wish they had put more effort into it.

You're honestly better off running it under RPCS3 if your PC can handle it. The load times are better on PC, but so far that seems to be the only real improvement.

I loved Ninja Garden Black and Ninja Garden 2, Ninja Garden 3 is possibly the most disappointing game I've ever played. Still I would love to buy this and support the series but...

The best way to play NGB and NG2 is on a One X or Series X. They run at a pretty much locked 4k60. NG2 especially really holds up graphically. Stunning game. For the Sigma releases, RPCS3 seems to run the first one well. I haven't had a chance to play Sigma 2 or Razor's Edge, but I doubt they're any different.

I believe that is fine... some console players said to me resolutions like 675p looks fine on 1080p TV... the same should be true for PC games on 1080p monitors.

/s

Being serious now... that collection started wrong and it will end wrong.
Bad choices over bad choices.

It is really sad what they did with it.
