I just bought Scott Pilgrim vs the world on Epic.
It's game I always found interesting and I regretted not having bought it back in the days.
Seeing it back and on PC did I decide to finally buy this game.

Why the heck do I have to confirm my purchase by creating an Ubisoft account and have Ubisoft software installed on my PC just to launch this game?
And if that wasn't bad enough, why should the game not launch if the servers can't be reached?

Is this normal for Ubisoft games?
Why are we okay with this?

I should've bought this game on the Nintendo Switch.

A lot of games these says require you to run the game from the publishers client no matter where you buy it from.
So basically Epic's client launches Uplay and Uplay launches the game.

Yeah, it's not great. But in this case you can launch the game directly from the Ubi client without launching the Epic client. At least that is the case for other Ubi games on the Epic Games Store.

Yeah, it's not great. But in this case you can launch the game directly from the Ubi client without launching the Epic client. At least that is the case for other Ubi games on the Epic Games Store.

This is how managed to start the game.
I couldn't get it started from the epic launcher.

For Valhalla on Playstation you were also forced to create an Ubisoft account, not possible to run it otherwise.
Here you only have to do it once, after that all Ubisoft games know you, and on the Ubisoft website there is a list of the Ubisoft games you just played.

This happened to me last year when I tried to buy The Division 2. I ended up refunding after days trying to connect my accounts (I moved around a lot, I have accounts in several countries) and bought it on uPlay. Terrible.

Jokes aside, I grew up with PC games on cd and floppy disks. I have especially fond memories of games like rollercoaster tycoon, the Sims and halo. But after that did I mostly stick to consoles.

This was my second Ubisoft game to own on PC and I was not expecting the experience to be this bad.

Alternatively, you could buy it on Steam, install it. Quit Steam and just use the Ubi launcher. You can use Steam to d/l the game and then use Uplay exclusively after that if you are so inclined. Ubi launcher is annoying, or at least, multiple launchers are on initial set up, but they more or less stay outta the way after that to be honest. Other than the occasional launcher update. Origin and Uplay aren't nearly that bad to use, it's just annoying having to use them when Steam is so much superior. Though to give them credit Origin and Uplay have improved substantially since they launched. It used to be awful. Now it's just meh.

And yeah, it sucks. Had to do the same for the second Soutpark Game. Would have been that bad if for some reason Uplay didn't constantly forget my credentials. Had to re-login like 3 times a week.

Because Ubisoft does this, I have Far Cry 3 on Steam and it has the same problem... uPlay :-/

Or you know steam could just say, fuck your launchers. Its on our platform and that's it. The same way sony and xbox do it.

It has nothing to do with consumers, it has everything to do with steam applying to this bullshit, the same goes for epic.

Personally, when i see a ubisoft game on steam, i will buy it on uplay for the simple fact i don't have to deal with multiple launchers which eat extra performance. its a non issue for me.

I honestly blame the publishers more mainly because there is an amazing Bible platform like steam and even stuff like GOG.

All these developers have to have their own stupid application and micromanaging stuff that makes it more inconvenient for the consumer. Stuff that has trickled down as a console space where it requires you to have an EA login play something behind. But I can't say I have run into something that is totally inconvenient other than the stupid Ubisoft connect launcher which I haven't been able to log into for 3 months now.

Actually, I'm PS5/PC combo. What I can't point out the fragmentation that comes with PC gaming that makes life miserable? Here if it makes you feel any better, the FRIENDS/PARTY SYSTEM on PS5 is terrible, I rarely use it anymore but on PS4 I was living in them.
