Part of what makes Forza Horizon great is their fine selection of music in their radio stations. Any word on the music of Forza Horizon 5???

Would love a pure Techno station with some Cosmic Gate and Charlotte de Witte!

Cosmic Gate in Mexico!

Charlette at Mugello Circuit!

The music is one of my favorite things about the franchise, hopefully they add more stations. We probably won’t know the tracklist until closer to launch.

It's been a while since we had one of these nonsense discussions.

I'll remind you of this 4k/60fps on console flight sim discussion when the game releases on the platform.

Edit:

Actually fuck it, let's end this now:

Vince Carter Basketball GIF by NBA

Flight Sim was notoriously bad at maintaining native 4k 60 fps even on the best card released at the time.

qtPHFGeEPnKyKm3xDYbQZh-970-80.png

Barely hitting 30 fps on ultra 4k.

Even At 1440p, it couldnt do 60 fps.

In order to hit 60 fps, you had to settle for High settings and 1080p resolution on cards equivalent to the Xbox Series X. The fact that they got this game to run at native 4k 30 fps on a 12 tflops GPU is amazing.

Bullshit framerate to demo at. Stop showing me trash 30 fps game modes.
I feel somewhat the same my friend, however seeing as they are hitting a native 4k resolution I can forgive them. The 60fps mode is available though but we all want to see the eye candy at native 4k.

Yep I stopped playing the game entirely because of the seasons and the fact that I couldn't just hop on whenever and do what I wanted.
For me, it was always a disappointment with winter. Basically the ice level of forza, yay, grip -50%!

Yep if they are able to hit native 4k with a locked 30fps in all scenarios then it will be a commendable effort.

It seriously irks me that some people have come up with these dumb reasons (such as "it's not 60fps") to discredit a game from being "next gen". Anyone expecting 60fps in all next gen games on consoles is delusional. Everything that looks impressive will be 30fps on consoles by the time 2023 rolls around.

Not to start console wars but Polyphony Digital doesn't need any luck when it comes to creative a photorealistic racing game. These guys are obsessed with detail and it shows in their games.

I meant more in relation to FH5; just going back to the GT7 footage and comparing it with FH5 they look massively apart and both are cross-gen games, and that's with Horizon 5 also being open-world.

That said they're two different types of games and we might get a chance to see GT7 this year with some visual updates. I'm not saying it looks bad, mind, just not up to Horizon 5's level, and if the next Motorsport can hit near the fidelity from its reveal trailer then that won't have too much issue besting GT7 visually, either IMHO.

You can also expect powerful, all-new graphical features like HDR captures of the vibrant Mexican sky, sweeping vistas, and an unparalleled attention to detail. Available in 4K 30 FPS on the Xbox Series X (1080p 30 FPS on Xbox Series S) with an optional 60 FPS performance mode, and ray tracing added to cars in Forzavista, you will be immersed in the open world of Horizon like never before.

No raytracing in gameplay, even at 30fps.

GT7 so far?

vlcsnap-2020-10-12-20h59m59s884.png

And those from youtube's compressed video, not direct feed

It still look very nice, despite the aggressive pop in/out and no raytracing. It's better to wait for both games to release then compare before spouting outrageous claims, although both are kinda different with one being arcadey open-world and the other circuit sim racing. Also GT is much bigger and one of the largest, most pristine eSports in gaming.

In any case, this the the best game shown so far on their conference.

Like I said, I'm not saying GT7 looks bad by any means. However I didn't know my expectations for visuals in a racing game this soon could be exceeded as much as they have because I couldn't have counted on FH5 raising the bar as much as it did.

I know some people are using caveats like "it's 30 FPS" (it has a 60 FPS Performance Mode option) and "no RT" (even though RT doesn't automatically make a game look better or even more realistic. Games like Demon's Souls Remake look fantastic despite being both current-gen only and NOT having RT), but those are just weird takes IMO, considering the results on display.

They could technically add RT later on if able, similar to what they did with FS 2020, but I think it should be clear by now that you don't absolutely need RT for a game to look "next-gen". The UE5 demo from last year also didn't feature RT but is still one of the best showcases for 9th-gen visual fidelity we have. Why do these terms suddenly change when Forza Horizon 5 enters the picture, looks fantastic in spite of missing some things like RT, and has options for 60 FPS for the more competitive players?

For me it is simple. I will never ever play a 30fps mode/game again. I would much prefer if games were demoed at 60 so I know what to actually expect. Showing me eye candy at a slide show framerate is only going to piss me off when it is cut out of the what should be minimum 60fos mode.

Umm... I have around 50 hours in FH4, still playing it and IMO it’s the best XBO exclusive and is one of my favorite racers ever but I don’t get the hype about the graphics for this one. It looks amazing for sure, but this is clearly the FH4 engine with small upgrades. This is clearly an Xbox One game and not built around nextgen, that’s some bullshit. And don’t get me wrong, FH4 is among the best looking games ever, it‘s just that the hype for FH5 graphics seems unwarranted to me. Regardless, can’t wait, day one physical edition for me.

Improved to provide players with a more diverse cast of selectable characters. New customization options include the ability to customize hair style and color, select prosthetic limbs, choose pronouns, select from different voices and the ability to purchase clothing with credits.

Oh good, they didn't forget about very important diverse characters with pronouns and prosthetics.

Yep, I remember all the "Who the hell needs ray tracing when you have LUMEN/dynamic global illumination!" etc when that UE5 demo came out.

Now after seeing how impressive FH5 is, they just want to feel better about themselves by bringing up the fact that a few Sony titles (that aren't as impressive, lets be clear) have touches of ray tracing in them.

Whatever helps them sleep at night, I guess.

It really looks like they've taken the fun elements of FH4 and made more of an exploratory open world game. Wonderful iteration and presentation layer to this game, super keen.

MS: Shows ingame gameplay trailer with apparent RT reflections enabled! Dude from MS dev team speaks and advertises the Game RT and 4K resolution!
Also MS: Official Forza Page displays that RT mode in only for View mode - Photomode! and game is running at 4K@30 lol (with optional 60fps mode though)
My humble opinion: That was some serious EPIC FAIL moment!

Hmm...I wonder if these guys are working on an RPG, by chance :pie_thinking: ?....

Anyway yeah, this game looks flippin' phenomenal. This the kind of gameplay showcase Halo Infinite needed last year (and this year; maybe they'll do one closer to launch). Right up there with FS 2020, Rift Apart, Demon's Souls remake and Forbidden West for best-looking games either out or coming by end of the year.

Gran Turismo has a LOT of work to do to catch up with Forza now, between this and Forza Motorsport proper (which should look even better than Horizon 5 if that's even possible). Best of luck, Polyphony Digital!
Gran Turismo 7 is to have raytracing so it'll be interesting to compare it with the new Forza games

I suspect the next time we see Gran Turismo 7 it's going to look amazing just like how Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart looked way better the 2nd time we saw it 🔥

With that said, I love the look of the mountain environments

post some daytime comparisons. Everything looks better in rain and under grey cloudy skies.

I said this earlier, but the biggest upgrade is the track side detail which is way beyond anything in Horizon 4 or any other racer out there. The Lighting engine and car detail seems to be fairly cross gen. I am guessing it's an engine limitation.

The draw distance is amazing too. You just dont see this level of detail that far into the distance in the last gen versions even on PC.

dOQo0Ts.gif

The gif actually doesnt capture all the detail in the distance, but the 4k video shows an insane amount of detail that is usually obscured by fog or just plain blurred out in last gen versions. (I played Horizon 4 on PC at max settings.)
this gif.. when i was watching the video I felt like I am really jumping. my stomach didn't feel right. lol

I was eating muesli and legit choked on it during the scene with the stream and hill in the background when cars went whizzing by. Legit thought it was real footage of the environment. Probably there best graphics I’ve ever seen on a console.

It's more just another step up in environmental detail and lighting. Fully explorable environments at this level of fidelity is crazy. You are right though as this is a first generation next generation Xbox game, the next Forza will be far more impressive.

Looks really good, congrats Xbox owners.

Note to Polyphony Digital: how on earth are the MS studios able to ship like 6 (outstanding) race games over a short period and you guys are working on Gran Turismo games for ages. I swear it's like you are assembling the cars yourself.

Yeah it's taken a lot on here by surprise, this level of rendering detail is beyond what we've seen so far from other next gen games and it's all fully explorable with interactive foliage as well (apart from trees).

Yeah, maybe, I don’t see it. And again, to me FH4 looks very similar to this on base XBO, just in a different setting. I don’t want to downplay it, as it looks insane, it’s just that it’s not a big step after FH4. I think people forgot how good that game looks.

It just doesn't make sense that they say 4K@30fps and it still has jaggies in the gameplay footage, and that's without ray tracing. For current gen 30fps shouldn't be an option for car games and first person view games like shooters. And why 1080@30fps on the S? What would be for 60fps then? And all of that with no RT?

Yeah pretty bizarre actually. Should be 4k60 out of the gate. What's going on there?

Well I dunno; see I don't wanna get into qualitative statements like "that aren't as impressive". For me there's a handful of games very impressive visually for their own reasons and it's impossible to really say one objectively is better than the other on a graphical POV. Just off the top of my head, the best-looking games on the market or coming by end-of-year:

-Forza Horizon 5: Damn near photo-realistic visuals, silky-smooth, doing all of this while also being open-world

-FS 2020: Virtually the same reasons as Horizon 5, but from an aerial perspective with planes. Also smart use of
texture streaming via synced online.

-Rachet & Clank Rift Apart: Pretty much a Pixar movie in video-game form, great fidelity and art style to boot.

-Demon's Souls Remake: Lots of visual and geometric density, strong art style typical of Souls games.

-Horizon Forbidden West: Great artstyle, visual density and fidelity, great animations as well.

Out of those games and focusing only on console versions in Xbox's case, only one of those five has any RT, yet they're the best-looking current-gen games out right now (obviously if I also included last-gen games like TLOU2 and GoT would be here, but then we wouldn't have a real cut-off and could back to The Order 1886, or Ryse, etc.).

So yeah, there's definitely a weird undercurrent with some folks trying to downplay Horizon 5 because of no RT or having a 30 FPS option (conveniently ignoring there is a 60 FPS option too), and it's for all the usual reasons not really worth listening to. Same for a lot of the people who jumped on the "hero lighting" stuff with Forbidden West as such an odd criticism, or the folks who suddenly started harping on the game being held back because it isn't PS5-only and therefore can't leverage dat SSD (never mind not EVERY game needs that type of bandwidth or I/O to hit game design targets. Same can be said of most games coming to the Series consoles right now, too).

I have been corrected elsewhere that Forza Horizon 5 is indeed Cross Gen. nothing to see here then, both are less than what gaming evolution deserves.
This is such a stupid mentality; a game isn't automatically good just because it's new, or current-gen only. Many of the best games of all time come from the '90s and '00s of all things, including the most influential.

Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, GT7, Forbidden West, Ragnarok etc. don't suddenly become worst games because they're on XBO and PS4 (and in Microsoft's case, if FS 2020 is anything to go by, "cross-gen" might actually just involve xCloud streaming, which is something I was suggesting they aught to do for cross-gen way back last year. Glad to see they are attempting it. Dunno if Sony has has the cloud infrastructure ATM to do similar but maybe they will in time for Ragnarok at the least).

In fact I'm willing to wager they'll be among the Top 10 best-reviewed games of 2021/2022.

I am not interested in Mexico, I don't think it is a great location. The games have been great though and it is on gamepass so I will be playing it.
