What would be considered as Nintendo's (own published) big Fall/Holiday 2021 Game?

Typically every year, Nintendo has had at least ONE game that is released in the Fall (usually in October or November) that becomes their Holiday showcase big seller (or is primed up to be).

Last year, iirc, it was Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and the year prior I think it was Pokemon.

So what is it going to be this year? Here's the releases for Nintendo themselves:

September 10 - Wario Ware: Get it Together

October 8 - Metroid Dread

October 29 - Mario Party Superstars

November 19 - Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (Remakes)

December 3 - Advance Wars Re-Boot Camp (Remakes)

I guess the best bet would be Pokemon, even with them being Remakes?

What does everyone think will end up being the top seller.

Well, Pokémon is the single largest entertainment franchise in the world, so let's go with that.

Metroid has never been a great seller. Hopefully, that changes with Dread.
Fair enough. I thought I read something about the reception of the remakes so far not being that great. Also these games are apparently not being made by Gamefreak.

Of course, I guess for the massive fanbase this has, none of that really would matter.

It's kind of funny that Nintendo didn't say anything about Pokemon at all at E3. I totally even forgot it was coming out.

OP, you forgot Mario Party Superstars. Releases October 29.

Mmm Metroid Dread or Pokémon. I think Metroid Dread is bigger because it's a new installment.

They didn't say anything because Pokémon gets its own Directs seperate from everything else.

People "boycotted" Sword and Shield. Look at how that turned out. Pokémon will sell massively no matter what.

I just realized, the map on Mario Party Superstars is Woody Woods from Mario Party 3. I wonder if that will be one of the five maps or not?

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond will be the best seller but I can see Metroid Dread selling 2-4 million copies

Either pokemon or Mario party (even though I feel like it should be dlc or an expansion, to the prior game)

Like the main reason to buy the new Mario party is for online multiplayer with randoms imho.

& I still can't believe Nintendo is charging £50 for advanced wars and metroid.

But pokemon and Mario party are probably going to do huge numbers, I was surprised to see prior Mario Party had shifted 12 million units on switch.

For my personally the big releases are the cave switch ports (mushihimesama, espgaluda 2, dodonpachi, absolute bargains at £15 a pop)

& I can't wait for botw2 next year.

I don't follow Metroid but based off the eye test it looks like the best game from Nintendo, would not believe a 2D could look that good.
It looks no better than strider from 7 years ago? (also a excellent game too)

Also have you never seen ori: will of the wisps? (pc, xbox, switch) if you haven't play it. (best metroidvania game ever, come at me you hollow Knight fans, I really need to play hollow Knight still, don't come at me really) :p

I've said it before the rest of the game industry (minus maybe FIFA, Call of Duty and gatcha) probably wish they could have Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as their big holiday releases.

Out of those, definitely Pokemon. I guess Nintendo will also strongly push Metroid Dread as well, but it will not touch Pokemon in terms of sales.

There is also Shin Megami Tensei V from Atlus. It is not (as far as I know) published by Nintendo, but I feel they are going to push it strongly this holiday.

SMTV is my personal most hyped game this year, its my favourite JRPG series of all time so to me its bigger than any FF game.

The new Mario Party for sure. Every casual Switch player (+ some hardcore like me) are quite excited for MP Superstars or whatever it's called, and lots of them are also getting the DPPt remakes day one.

Apparently, at least from what I've found online, SMTV is being published by Sega in NA? But Nintendo might be publishing it in the PAL territories.

I wonder why Sega would only publish it in one region? Do Atlus and Sega have an established relationship in NA?

Well, Atlus is owned by Sega-Sammy, which is also Sega's parent company. Sega Europe is also a small publisher, mostly there to publish Sonic games and PC games, though they have published Atlus games in Europe since 2017.

I guess Nintendo wants to push this title, but Sega Europe is too small to do it themselves, so Nintendo is stepping in as publisher instead. They have done similar deals before as well.

It’s going to be Pokemon. But I’m guessing that Pokemon and Mario Party may not even need to be primed as big holiday titles. I bet they’d sell a lot even if there weren’t any marketing.
I’m guessing they’ll market Metroid a lot. I’m also guessing that there’d be one more title to be announced.

Pokémon is the only one that has broad appeal, Metroid is the one for the hardcore. The other two are pretty laughable, no offence.

Pokemon and Mario Party will sell really well and Metroid will hopefully be the fastest and best selling entry in the series.

Can't believe no game in the series has cracked the 3 million mark to this day.

That's a gross list.

I've never seen a holiday schedule that screams "end of console lifecycle" more than that cheap trash.
This is better than last year, that was just Hyrule Warriors and 3 old Mario games.
The console still has Bayonetta 3, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3 and Metroid Prime 4 in its future so it's hardly out of steam.

Metroid has been plagued with terrible timing or poor choices by Nintendo but Prime was still the Highest selling release on Gamecube outside of Melee. that may have been an anomaly but it's still inaccurate to say it's never been a great seller.

Nintendo convinced Activision for a surprise COD release, Black ops 1 remake Switch timed exclusive, outsells pokemon.

Or another Wii U port.
