Did you configure the share button to straight up upload? Why?

Nah had it on the default settings. I tried to change it so you need to HOLD the button instead of just pressing it quickly to save. But when you change it, the setting doesn't save and reverts back to the default. Doesn't do this for any other button you can remap.

Yes the series X controller is super clicky loud. I have two and both are like that. It’s like they were going for a mechanical keyboard sound. The controller is great but the clicking is ridiculous.

Dualsense buttons are quiet but the vibration motors and triggers make weird sounds all the time.
It IS mechanical keyboard of controlers. It has proper microswitches instead of shitty rubber domes.

I have 2 of them, and I also think the D-pad especially makes quite big clicking noise.
It bothered me quite a bit initially - but I don't really think about it anymore. I only notice it when I come back from Dual Sense.
(Then again, when I play Dual Sense, I feel like I'm going to break the trigger/shoulder buttons quite easily.... so I'm rather on edge when using it too... but XSX controller, it feels quite solid, feels almost indestructible.)

Either way - I will take this clicky d-pad over that mushy 360 one that I have, any day.

So I was just enjoying a game of Tetris Connected on the Series X when it suddenly dawned on me that the d-pad and a,x,y,b buttons of the controller make an horrendous clicking noise. I’ve had to stop playing the game because it was seriously beginning to annoy me. I don’t think I noticed before because I was mostly using the control sticks and triggers. Do I have a dodgy controller or is it meant to sound like a digital drum machine?
This is a problem for me as well. So much that I just went back to using my Xbox One controller.

Well they are proper obnoxiously loud, I don’t like mechanical keyboards for the same reason. Like I said though, it’s a great controller, just too loud for my liking, my wife finds the clicking annoying also.

That's price for superior key (in this case dpad) activation precision. It's also no louder than average mouse clicks.

LOVE the sound of the Series X Controller - but I also use a mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX Blue). And neither my wife or my sons have complained about the noises of the controller.

Yes they're very annoyingly loud. I complained about this before. I cannot use the Xbox at night because my wife and kids complain about the noise when they're trying to sleep.

The dpad on mine is nice and clicky (as it really should be) but the face buttons are the same as they always are.

Are you gaming in the same room where they are sleeping?

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you are in a separate room they are most likely not complaining about the clicking noises while you are gaming.... ;)
I'm in the living room while my wife and kids are in the bedroom. Their bedroom is the closest to the living room and the door stays open.

They never complain whenever I game on PS5. My wife tells me if I want to game on Xbox at night at least play my story games. She means the JRPGs 🤣

Another reason why my wife hates GAF, although my keyboard is pretty quite compared to common KB's. It's when there is too much hype with my relatively speedy typing things can get a bit nasty so I surf more and comment less. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:
I had to buy a "silent mouse" because the clicking was pissing my future wife off. Luckily my laptop keyboard is already on the more silent side.

I love the controller but the D-pad clicking is a big turn off for fighting games.
Instead of having smooth half-circle motions, you end up with three clicks that make an unpleasant sensation similar to having bad joints that click when you move.

When XBOX released that survey about haptics I was ecstatic because My DualSense is completely silent. Even when playing fighting games I can't hear a peep. A youtube breakdown showed just how quiet the dualsense is in comparison to the PS4 and how haptics acts like a dampener.

I use my Elite 2 on My SX because it's quieter.

I don't have this sort of issue, it always creates screenshot on press and 5 minute clip on hold. And by the way disable automatic upload, because of this:

PSA: Turn off automatical upload of screens/videos to Xbox Live and Activity Feed on your Xbox | NeoGAF

How about the worst feature on the XSX controller: the share button. Once you accidently hit it(and you will, A LOT), it'll try uploading a screenshot and will then interrupt your gameplay like 5 minutes later saying it's uploaded. If you hold the Xbox button after the first notification you get saying "Screenshot saved" or whatever, you can cancel the upload so nobody has to see your stupid picture. BUT, it'll still give you another notification in 5 minutes saying upload failed.

You can turn that off, and upload them manually (although it triggers when you want to send a message anyway). I got sick of it real quick.

On topic, yes it's loud. But only the D-Pad. You notice it when typing a ten word xbox message or summat.

I have my consoles and work station in my home office, which is a separate room away from everything and everyone, I can't bother anyone even if I wanted to.

Yeah especially if she went to sleep early and she was a bit angry about some usual silly matter like most women, then you might get a pillow thrown at you. That's when you shift from comment mode to surfing/reaction/emoji mode to avoid something harder than a pillow thrown at you. :lollipop_downcast_sweat:

Yeah the loud clicking sound on the D-Pad definitely caught me off guard when I first got my console. But either I got used to it or the games I play don’t need the D-Pad because I’ve totally forgotten about it.

Seems like as pure an excuse to get an elite 2 as I have ever seen. Play the most annoying game ever for 2 or 3 days straight on purpose and you have free pass from your spouse or significant other to spend spend spend!

After the Flood is a personal fave, but I love everything they do.

The controller sure is a love/hate kind of thing according to these comments. I actually like the controller, but I am not a fan of invasive noise, except for that middle section in After the flood :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I didn't want to make a thread but this has been bothering the fuck out of me. Was the One controller this bad? My X360 pad was fine, but the controller that came with the Series S is twice as loud as my Switch pro controller, dual sense and Stadia controllers. WTF! Personally, I feel the clicking makes the controller feel cheap and the noise is just terrible. (Side gripe, it's the only one that isn't rechargeable out of the box also)
The face buttons aren’t as loud as the d-pad for sure, but still pretty clicky. Maybe I just need to get used to it.
They are both really loud to me, but the dpad is truly insane. Who thought this was a good idea?

They sound clicky yeah. Elite 2 doesn't though. :lollipop_grinning:
Please tell me this is true. I wanted to ask if anyone had a solution or if it was just the Series S controller. The price tag is steep, but this POS controller takes all the joy out of my new Xbox.

Please, I don't want my wife to know I'm playing games instead of working in my office!

My elite is still clicky. Not as clicky, but still clicky.

It does make the controller sound cheap you're right. Kind of get used to it though. But terrible design idea.

The cool part is, you can change the the button mapping in EASE OF ACCESS setting to make it so you need to HOLD the share button to upload a screenshot. However, changing the button mapping for the share button doesn't actually save when you leave the menu. So it's literally an option, at the top of the button mapping screen, that you can change but will have no effect AT ALL. It doesn't work. Pretty neat Ease of Access there Microsoft.

And the controller is a little smaller than the previous gen version which also sucks.

Agreed. Share button is horrible. They need to get rid of it ASAP.

It's the opposite, the clicking is because of mechanical switches, like in a mechanical keyboard, making it have much higher durability than previous controllers.
Honestly I've been using computers since back when there were only mechanical keyboards and...

All the supposed advantages are straight propaganda: they are obnoxiously loud, less comfortable, not any more accurate, etc

Yes there are bad keyboards, like the butterfly caps or whatever was wrong with MacBooks. But the myth that they last longer or whatever is just that. If you broke a keyboard or didn't, it probably had nothing to do with it being a mechanical keyboard or not.

The suggestion that the controller should provide a shitty user experience just so you could use it longer is terrible.

When I was a kid if I wanted to share a game video I'd have to record it on a VHS tape and take it over to my friend's house (remember friends?).

That's only if my Dad didn't accidentally record 3AM infomercials over my Mario paint cartoon I'd spent months making...

I don't care about any of that. I like the noisy as fuck keyboard because the keys sit over a metal plate so when it comes time to clean out the Doritos and jizz I can just blast it all out with a garden hose in the back yard.
