It would be pretty odd to have a black Superman and a white Blade.
I like to see white blade. You can do it, as a different universe. Either Keanu or cruise would be perfect cast.

Black superman already exist. Its the old garbage suits who try to change the character for no reason. Like use the already existing black superman.

This show was already off to a bad start with the casting and the plot and it has only gotten worse.

Eh, I draw a line at main characters.

These two aren't the cream of the crop, so it doesn't bother me until they cast Sarge white and Cortana some Asian to tap into the Chinese market.

The amount of times a character has been casted of a different color that I didn't know about because the character was non-essential happens more times than I can count, and it never bothered me.

Witcher 3, for example, was hard pressed on me because they "reimagined" the main casts quite a lot and that pulled me off the show.

But movies, for an example at the top off my head, MCU films where some characters (like Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok) are race swapped and it never bothered me because the character isn't a staple character. so therefore the change had zero impact and the actress pulled it off regardless.

So, not being able to feel like that characters for shows/books/games/movies that you're familiar, or have an investment in, because of external changes - is understandable.

Just acknowledge why others don't feel the same way is all.

TL;DR - You're only sensitive about it because you're tied too close to the material, but in reality, it means nothing to most people. Yet, you're excused for feeling this way because "to err...is to be human."

Microsoft up until I’ve seen gameplay footage of infinite multiplayer, has seemed incapable of managing a valuable IP like Halo. When you consider where it was during Halo 3 and the fall that followed it, mismanaged.

keyes is literally in the first level of halo combat evolved. same for miranda in halo 2.

i had a little bit of hope for the show until i saw this. now i have zero interest. good job with your fake, transparent, performative wokeness. and great job to the morons who eat it up despite the fact it is disrespectful to pander so much to black people when they whole thing is simply about corporate optics and money, not respect.

i hear more and more black people getting tired of this shit everyday, but is anyone listening to them? lol smh, what a disgrace
The most important thing to gamers in the adaptation of a science fiction series with silly looking aliens on a ring world and sentient plants - everyone must be white, because it’s so important to these characters soul that they are white, not that they are portrayed by good actors.

It's 2021 and we got still got snowflakes over here crying about casting decisions.

I'm sure the show is gonna suck for other reasons.

Nobody is crying about it, it’s a legitimate position to want a series to be true to the characters you’ve been playing for 20 years. If you’re saying you’re ready for Sgt. Johnson to be a gay Asian woman that’s cool but I’m trying to fight these covenants.

Well hard to argue with that position. Vikings=ok Space Marines=not ok. 😂 But I guess if you believed the world would unite in the future.. 😂

Right I didn’t realize you were an idiot, sorry. Maybe you can show me where I posted my deep concern about the lore. Are you actually linking a discussion about opinions? 😳😂
Not sure who is the idiot. The lore allow an adaptation to have everything you don't want to see in it.That was my point.

It's 2021 clearly, that's why all Hollywood remakes or reboots are being brownwashed. It's not crying just rolling of the eyes and que the Khalid another one meme. If you like your movies with a touch of corporate virtue signalling then cool, enjoy.

What are you on about? It's the establishment of characters being thrown to the side that pisses us off.

Crappy argument you have there. Johnson is a universally loved black character, no one bitched about the race.

The idea they can pass it off as another universe is weak and feels cheap. Keep some of the characters verbatim the same but change others. It wrecks the suspension of disbelief and creates a tangent character of unknown quality vs an already established and loved one.

It's not the race that bothers me, it's the cheap ass changing to gain what exactly? Just make new characters if you want to try something different.

Yes, you are. Whining and bitching about something that does not matter.

If this was a series about Robin Hood and lillte John was made black (not like that ever happened, am i right?), then I'd see your point. Different times, black people were few and far between in europe at that time.

But in space, hundreds of years from now? Gtfo. Doesn't matter. Their skin color has jack shit to do with their characters. This is not a Lance Reddick playing Wesker situation.

No you classify it as whining and bitching to delegitimize the viewpoint. My only point is that it’s a valid viewpoint, I really am not invested in the project nor stand to gain or loose financially from it.

When you don’t actually kick it with black people you think you’re advocating for them by doing this. Because of course blacks are very delicate, the Faberge eggs of ethnicities if you will. Even questioning anything = da structural racisms

It doesn't need delegitimizing since it's narrow minded nonsense to begin with. Race bending in adaptations have been done for decades, but now if it happens it's woke and whatever.

These are secondary characters. Most Halo gamers would struggle to remember exactly who they are. It's irrelevant and doesn't mean anything.

People have switched both sex and skin color in adaptations for decades, it's nothing new. What does it matter anyway? It's not like ethnicity is a focal point in the Halo games.

It was wrong when they changed established characters to whites in the past, and it's wrong when they do it now with blacks.

You don't know any Halo gamers outside of MP natives. Anyone with any familiarity and fondness for Halo and its lore know EXACTLY who the Keyes are. Theyre major players in the plot for fucks sake.

It's a part of who they are, why change them? It matters because theyre completely different characters now, especially Miranda. If these were black characters changes to white a lot of people would be singing a different tune.

I don't know what?

Look, if you're gonna try to nail me to some wall, at least try to make it stick instead of shoving your own foot down yoir throat.

I have a heavy dislike for a lot of race bending in places where it doesn't make sense, but it is so irrelevant to these characters what their skin color is. This isn't some white actor being cast in a story about aztecs. Or a black guy playing teddy roosevelt. It's just some military people on a spaceship sometime in the future.

Who the fuck cares?

You didn't see people whining when they cast Samuel Jackson as Ray Arnold in Jurassic Park, and why should they? Skin color was irrelevant to the character, and he did a great kob.

Call me when they hire Tom Cruise to play Sitting Bull, or cast black hobbits in the shire.

Isnt that actually happening?, Jar Jar Abrams is directing or something, i'm sure i read that.

I know this Halo series isnt supposed to be canon, so it 'doesnt really matter' what actors they pick to play whoever, but for me its more the 'why' than the 'who'. I mean if we didnt live in clown world, what possible reason would the producers and casting director pick black actors to play white characters?, i mean it wouldnt make sense, in a none clown world.

How does this make sense? What purpose does changing these characters races serve? What is sensible about race swapping in general? We have a major black character in the Halo series in Johnson, who is beloved by Halo fans, and instead of making him a bigger focus in the series, and maybe adding more characters from his family and friends, they race swap 2 lead characters in the plot for no apparent reason other than they can?

How is that sensible?

Just curious, because I honestly have no idea, but you do seem to know of examples - which established characters across media are you referring to that were non-white in the past, but became white?
Ghost in the Shell, I guess?

I honestly just can’t believe people care about Halo story this much that they’re really angry about this.

What importance does their skin color have? Why does it matter? No one is giving an answer but "it's wrong".

Why?

Millions of people play Halo. A tiny fraction will remember what the Keyes look like. Hell, I had to look em up when the casting was first announced and I've been playing Halo since 2001.

What does race swapping characters serve? Hollywood almost always fucks up the conversion from videogame to show/film. Changes like this does nothing to make a good show and is only evidence of them pandering to a certain very vocal group of society that does not even consume their content.

The Dark Knight Rises, Bane is hispanic and Ras Al Ghul is an immortal Arabic warlord in the Batman comics, his daughter Talia as well. Christian Bale in Exodus, Gyllenhall in Prince of Persia, Fox in Wanted(I doubt most people even read the comic though tbh, the movie is an overall improvement though imo), and the Ancient One in Doctor Strange are all I can think of rn off the top of my head.

Hell didn't a white guy get cast as MJ in some movie? Am I misremembering?
I honestly just can’t believe people care about Halo story this much that they’re really angry about this.

Dude there are diehard Halo story/lore fans. Some of which even know the weapons down to their model number. It's a big community.

I wouldn't say I'm angry at this point, just annoyed and tired of this silliness tbh.

It's a part of who the characters are. Who we are is in part defined by our appearance. People want authenticity in their characters. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

On top of that, it's not cool to erase anyone's race in anything. Personally as someone who is mixed race but presents primarily as african american, it's super fucking annoying.

Instead of getting new meaningful characters, or spotlighting the existing black characters we get hand me down white characters who are palette swapped like Mortal Kombat ninjas. It's like saying the only good black character is a white character with dark skin.

Hell, I didn't even see Johnson's name in the cast list I looked at. Dude should be one of the main cast, he regularly deployed into combat alongside Chief and the Keyes.

Surprisingly, you don't speak for all Halo fans.

Come on, this isn't difficult. Most people can only name the leads in any form of entertainment they consume. Why do you think Halo is different?

This is an adaptation. Shit gets changed in adaptations. It always happens. Characters are removed. Some are added. Some are combinations of other's. It's the nature of the game.

Their skin color has about as much to do with their roles in this story as their haircuts. It's irrelevant.

The one thing I do completely agree with you on though is what you said about hand me downs. I totally get that. When I hear about shit like race bending a super hero, or making Thor a woman, that's just dumb to me. It's an easy way out for meeting the diversity quota instead of making something that matters.

But I don't find these two comparable at all. The Keyes aren't poster faces. They're important, but nobody plays Halo for the Keyes. They're background, secondary characters, and in adaptations, those are the first to get changed, removed or added in order to serve the story the writers want to tell.

I don't know what their reasons for doing this is. I'm not defending their reasoning, cause I don't know. Maybe they felt the cast was too white. Maybe they just saw this one actor and thought damn, he'd be perfect as Keyes.

I just don't see the problem with what they did actually is. I see no problem, and I still see no solid arguments against it. I'd be agreeing with you more if Jonhnson was turned white, Cortana black, or Master Chief was to be played by Gwendolyne Christine.

That doesn't make it ideal, or preferable for people who are fans of the thing getting adapted. Adaptations that depart from the source material typically aren't that good imo to begin with. Not for the franchises I enjoy anyway.

They don't need to be, in some cases people find themselves falling in love with secondary characters all the time.

You don't see the problem because you're damn near ignoring everyone's points about this and asserting that you're the one with the correct perspective.

So Johnson being turned white would be bad, but it's ok that the Keyes are made black? That makes sense to you? If race isn't important for the roles of these characters why would making Johnson white matter to you?

That's a bizarre double standard.

Johnson is a blatant african americsn drill sargent stereotype, it's basically his whole character. He's a carbon copy of the guy in Alien, even down to the cigar. Change HIS skin color, and you change his entire character. It's different. Very different.

I'm not asserting anything, I just don't find any of your arguments convincing, while you act like I'm talking down the entire board, while I've only talked to you, and maybe one other person initially. I'm saying my opinion, and until someone can provide arguments that convinces me otherwise, it's not gonna change just because you would like it to.

Anyways. It's pretty clear we're not gonna see eye to eye on this, so I don't see any point in taking this any further.

Keyes, who grabbed the index to stop a Halo firing and went toe to toe with Arby and Prophet is a secondary character?

She also ordered Chief to kill the prophet, is daughter of Keyes and Halsey, who created the Spartans and Mjolnir while believing Cortana looks like her too.

Sounds secondary to me. Pffft. You've lost me.
