Trying to remember if Japanese prices include sales tax?

See that the Samsung 980 pro is 180 from amazon at the moment so expect it to be in line with that.

The NEM-H series is an NVMe 1.4 compatible SSD with an M.2 2280 form factor, and will be the company's first consumer SSD that has handled professional and commercial storage.

An 8-channel controller is implemented, and the NAND flash storage method is 3D TLC. A dynamic SLC cache that secures up to one-third of the total SSD storage area as the cache size is adopted, which contributes to faster access and longer life. As a cache, 1TB model is equipped with 1GB and 2TB model is equipped with 2GB DDR4 DRAM to achieve stable speed.

Sequential read up to 7,100MB / s (1TB model is 7,000MB / s), sequential write up to 6,850MB / s (5,500MB / s), random read up to 650K IOPS (350K IOPS), random write up to 700K IOPS Can be accessed. Ideal for core gamers and content creators who demand high performance.

TBW (total write bytes) is 1,400TB for the 2TB model and 700TB for the 1TB model. MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) is 1.6 million hours in common. The warranty period is 5 years.

In addition, it supports the 4th generation LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) of the error correction algorithm. In addition, "Acronis True Image OEM" that clones SSD data can be used free of charge for one year.

Is this the PS5 expansion card? or a PC SSD? or both I guess?

Anyway, £165 is 1962 kr in Sweden, excluding VAT. So I guess roughly 2500 kr then.

If it’s a SSD that works for PS5 games then it’s still a day 1 purchase because of how important it is. The internal SSD is tiny.

For comparison, XSX 1TB expansion card cost me 2063 kr, 2579 kr including VAT. So roughly the same price.

No doubt Sony will be cranking the PS5 fan up full blast, because all the power and speed of this thing will be running hot. Great price for the tech. I was expecting Sony to charge a hell of a lot more, given that I had to pay over $120 for my Vita's proprietary 64GB card back in the day.

Looking at Nextorage's website, seems this company caters to professionals like photographers rather than consumers. I don't think this is meant for PS5 necessarily. If it were, there would a ton of PS5 branding on the thing.

Same specs as the PS5 SSD? Sony never said that at all. In their tech reveal, they referenced an SSD with speeds of this SSD but said further testing was needed.

Hopefully that's the case, cause it needs to be released ASAP. At least for those who play COD. I mean, the better fix would be compressing the game more, but that can eventually lead to performance issues.


In essence, additional storage is needed

Pci 4.0 and speeds 7000+ was the info I remember…both those sorts of spec drives have been available now for over 12 months

Those drives didn't start showing up until September 2020. Actually, I'm not sure exactly when the first 7000 mbps SSD arrived last year. I know we previously discussed the Samsung 980 Pro which wasn't available until September 2020, but there may have been others prior to that. Either way, this is just another drive in that class. It doesn't change anything.

Surprised there's DDR4 as a DRAM cache. Are there other PCIe 4.0 drives from Samsung, WD with DDR4, I haven't been keeping up with the specs lately?

980 pro does, its basically a match but the sony is rated at a slightly lower IOPS than the Samsung but its a purely a theoretical different imo

I'd imagine you'd be up to date if you are claiming this a beast or all the direct storage threads you have been in lately? But yes, there are SSD's with these specs already. The only difference is, this might possibly be used as the first official supported SSD from Sony.... Being that it's from Sony. Not that it excels or is a beast compared to other SSD's currently on the market.

I have been up to date on DirectStorage and RTX IO, not so much on what's currently the latest and greatest spec-wise on the market in SSD stuff lately.

Looks like the price (of a 980 Pro) has also come down a bit since I last checked, which is nice.

Btw, I think all drives that hit 7GB/s or more sequential read are beasts :messenger_savoring:

We all know exchange rates alone can’t be trusted, as somebody always gets unnecessarily screwed, taxes etc.

But for reference this card is cheaper than the Xbox equivalent in Japan at ¥25,190 vs ¥32,386. (Inc tax). Hopefully this translates elsewhere.

If they have DRAM then they would be using DDR4.
They wouldnt use DDR3 it would literally be more expensive to source DDR3 modules to place in an SSD today than to simply source the common DDR4 modules.

And we already have alot of SSD in this spec.

Its nigh literally a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus.
I can almost guarantee it uses the same Phison E18 controller as the 4 Plus.

So instead of waiting you could just jump on a rocket when the NVMe update finally comes out for PS5.
