Fifa 22 PC can only be installed and played on one machine

Tag, you're it.
Official response by EA:
"We can confirm there is not a one machine limit for FIFA 22 on PC via Steam. This was listed incorrectly and the limitation has now been removed.
We apologise for the confusion and thank our community for noticing the error."

Another stupid move by EA? Who would have guessed...

After confirming that Fifa 22 on PC will be based on the last gen version of the game, EA has decided to drop one last fart in the face of PC players: FIFA 22 can only be activated on 1 PC.
This means that if you change your motherboard or just buy a new PC, your game will be unplayable.

To put that in perspective, imagine if your copy of FIFA 22 on PS5 can only be played on the machine you activated the game on first, meaning if your PS5 breaks you will no longer be able to play the game.

What EA say about this (thx to Lupin3 Lupin3 ):
I asked them on Twitter. Here's the answer, make of it what you will:

Hey, there! Thank you for reaching out to us on Twitter with this question. I would love to help, but unfortunately, we do not have any details here to confirm this message. We are still releasing details as we get closer to launch, so we may come out with more information regarding this.

I replied and told them it was strange that they didn't know about something they themselves were responsible for, and they pretty much repeated the earlier answer:

I am sorry for the trouble, man. I know that would be frustrating. We are still releasing information as we get closer to launch and will make sure we clarify any concerns before then. I just do not have any information here, right now to provide but we will be monitoring those reports and provide updates if we do have new information.

So basically, nobody knows anything, it seems.

I'll let you do your own conclusion.

I bet this doesn't apply if you have EA Play.

So basically they don't want you to buy the game, they want your monthly £15 from EA play pro.

Who are you trying to fool you pirate? You just need to deactivate the machine and then you'll be able to install it in another.

Tag, you're it.
Doesn't it just deactivate when you uninstall so you can install it again somewhere else, or even manually revoke an activation?

Not really, you have to contact the support for them to do it. Except they won't do it because it is specified that it is only for one machine (and it's here for a reason). If you buy the game you agreed to this, so you're screwed.
(and I don't pirate FIFA, I have a self esteem)

These are the companies that we have to trust when streaming becomes the standard and only way to play new games in the near future.

These are the companies that will keep all games in our libraries in their own servers and let us play from there.

If this is what they can do now with regular DRM, imagine what will they do when they can have full control over all the game files.

So, back up your stuff and build a sizeble offline backlog because video games are in for a pretty bleak future and it's going to be soon enough that most of us will experience it.

Thats a lot of IFs. I have my PS4 Pro for 5 years and nothing went wrong with it. Im sure its the same for PC users as well. You are looking at the worst case scenario possibility where you cant even fix what you have. Also this is an annual game, in 10 months they will already buy a new one. It it was like Mortal Kombat that comes out once in 4 years then I could understand the fear.

Not even that. I have a Pc and a laptop that i use to play on the go, both using the same account. It's like having a game on Switch that you can only play docked.
Luckily i don't like Fifa.

ps. And pay for the last gen version...

This is stupid PC drm but I think you are exaggerating a little. The game doesn't become unplayable with a new motherboard because I assume there is a way to deactivate the old one on your EA account and activate the new one.

I don't understand how EA can get away with fucking people in the ass with all this SJW stuff going on. It boggles the mind.

FIFA is becoming a joke. If they want to enforce things like this the best thing to do is make it free to play and release each season as DLC tied to an account that can be checked against. It is DRM by the back door, but at least it is more convenient for consumers and I'd imagine better for them to monitise fans directly.

Cause they have STAR WARS, MASS EFFECT and DRAGON AGE. And even if they get shittier by time they are still top games Im too much a fangirl of those 3 sagas.
And what do all of these ips have in common? Right, their last good game was released over a decade ago 🤭.

but you do pirate other games? hence DRM annoys you because you cant steal?

i wonder if there is anyone who cries about DRM and doesnt secretly also pirate bunch of games

So what will define the main machine part? Like if I change hard disk I can still install or I have to keep that hard disk alive as long as I want to play FIFA 22?

Doesn't it just deactivate when you uninstall so you can install it again somewhere else, or even manually revoke an activation?
I guess yes. But some people still play on more than just 1 system, so this sucks nevertheless.

But yeah, the game won't sell well on PC anyways. Thank god

Or better yet, why do you buy EA games at all?

People buy their games because they're fun, simple as it is. There are flaws in those games and even more so in how EA handles the consumers, but the gameplay is fun and that's what ultimately matters for most people. And with games like Fifa, what other alternative does all the football crowd has? None, hence the game is such a behemoth. And I don't think EA's new practice will have any effect at all, because people will get Fifa 23 when it shows up and won't touch 22 ever again, so who cares if it's tied up to a singe PC or not.

Most likely the motherboard just like it is with Windows.

I guess you're right.

I guess I'm just one of the few people who straight up refuse to buy any ea game simply because I don't support greedy and anti-consumer practices.

Wait for all the people who wiped their drives when changing any part of their PC without uninstalling their games. And they shouldn’t be expected to do so, EA gonna EA. Must really hurt seeing Ubisoft releasing hit after hit and BioWare being thrash tier studio now.

People who still keep buy FIFA games deserve everything they're getting.
Love? /s

I dont buy FIFA on PC, so no issues for me. Though if I were a PC player... well, I´d buy the Series S|X or PS5 version for sure.

Are you sure that's not 1 active machine at a time? Meaning that you can deactivate, change motherboard, then activate again (Like with some other DRM).

I will laugh if its tied to all your hardware, i remember certain old manager games back in 06-14 had this, if you changed any components in your pc, or reinstalled your os it registered as another computer and you had to email the company for another key.

I remember this also with games on PC, they where like binding towards your hardware and then u couldn't do shit when u replaced said hardware anymore which fueled piracy like nothing else.
