You have to be one lonely muthafucker to watch that video all the way through.
Don't be that guy. You don't stick podcasts or YouTube videos on to listen-to whilst doing housework or playing games you don't need to listen to the sfx of? I thought doing this was fairly common?

What is this messaging thing people speak of? What exactly are we expecting them to say? that they are making games and will make announcements when ready? Isnt that obvious?
Well for one thing we don't expect the guy running the show to shit over the legacy of your older games. Talk about counter-productive. Then after backlash have his "apology" basically not be one, but instead amount to "I won't say anything next time", rather than something that would imply he was actually sorry or had a BC solution. I find it disgusting that the guy running PS had to say "I want gamers to know I don't have old games" (paraphrasing). Such a situation should never be a thing in the first place.

You mean when he spoke the truth about the GT games?

While Sony have made a few odd choices when it comes to communication (those breadcrumb Wired interviews etc), the fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter whatsoever. The information, and more importantly games, are being released no matter what. Sony aren't struggling in any way when it comes to selling consoles or software. This is especially significant when the consoles are backwards compatible with last generation. Most people are already invested in one console and will stick to that rather than leaving the library they've accrued over a generation in the dust. Don't understand the amount of people on here who are worrying about them. They have a plan, so just be patient and enjoy the stuff they're releasing.

1. That's your arbitrary definition. An in-engine trailer running directly on a console is literally not a CGI trailer, e.g., Redfall's was a CGI trailer that wasn't running on a console at all, because it had nothing to do with the game.

2. That trailer showed multiple moments of gameplay. For example:

lCy1MOR.jpg
VXOXjv9.jpg
gfmbHML.jpg

It is now confirmed that at least these three frames were gameplay. Interestingly, it also says that "Captured on PS5" directly on it.
Wow you guys go all out to make a point huh?

The state of PlayStation has never been better. Sony are the market leaders, they brought a state of the art console right out of the gate and their first party IPs are bigger, better and sells more than ever before. Simply put, Sony are at the top of their game.
And it's driving the Sony haters bananas. After their fall from grace with the PS3 they were hoping they'd slip up again with the ps5. No chance. Market dominated by switch, PlayStation and steam. The big 3.

There's messaging to me has be TERRIBLE! But their product is hot like 150 degree coffee, so they are good. As long as the cocaine that they are selling keeps getting everybody high, they'll be fine. But they REALLY need to improve on how they communicate to their customers.

I know but the sequence and UI was reworked and some dialogue was rewritten, no scene where Atreus is playing with his toys etc.

Do you have any clue how the fuck development works? Do you know most demo's that go to trade shows, are that, just a demo. As in what they have completed levels wise they stich together to make something playable. Which is why a demo is usually different from the final game. Unless the game being demoes is literally showing you the beginning or maybe middle of the game.

Why does that matter? They showed you early look at a game "in-development"? The gameplay, character models, and some of the scenes were all from the final game. Some stuff changed in it's order, but the levels were the levels, they were just mish-mashed because some stuff wasnt complete at the time.

It's like you have no clue on how games are fucking made? Sony literally now shows you basically the game in how it will play, how it looks, and sometimes a specific part of the game. God of war some stuff wasnt finished so they stiched together a specific section with a boss encounter.

There's no lying in what you got in the final game? I dont understand where your going with this.

Calm your cheeks, i know how game development works there's no need to patronize me.

Again my original point:
Gaming as a whole is struggling in 2021 as a result of the pandemic, don’t expect the situation to change for the better in 2022 until this pandemic is over and everybody's back to their work places, i expect this gen to be as long as the 7th gen or even longer because of this.

Expect a LOT of CG trailers of games that won't be out until 2025.
Games change during development which is why it's not good to show Anything until the game's finished and only QA and polish remains, even Barlog himself in the making of GoW 2018 itself admitted that the game was nowhere Near finished when they showed it on stage.

So why don't PlayStation follow the Nintendo model (they've already borrowed their Direct format with SoP) and only show games when they're only 6-8 months or less away from launch?

I think alot people dont understand sony are at the profit making stage, ps4 era was investment and growth satge, now they want to maximize profit, so like nintendo they will start doing the bare minimum, increase prices and cutting costs, release games on pc. its up xbox to up thire game and compete, lets hope ms get the games out and start cutting prices on consoles asap.

I guess my gripe is your saying Playstation will show CG trailers and thats not been the case for everything they have shown. It's all in game mostly. Even horizon trailer from last year was all in-engine and then we see the game and it looks just like the trailer for the most part?

MS are the ones showing trailers of CGI for games that are 3-4 years away. The pandemic is for sure an issue on development, but in what way does that correlate to Sony specifically showing CGI trailers? All their trailers are either in-engine, or are clips taken from gamepaly.

No smoke and mirrors from them. Even what we saw for ratchet last year was what we got for ratchet.

Can we at least get a timestamp?

Wasted 20min on that podcast with two narcissist telling me, what they´re about to play or that they´re verified twitch streamers or ...

Sony needs to be more vocal, that´s for sure. They have been silent for like 4 years now. They need a PR-mascot to combat Phil Spencer´s never ending "rhetoric".

Not only it's obvious, but they actually DID say that 😂

"PlayStation Studios, the group which houses renowned Sony developers like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games, has “more than 25 titles in development for the PS5” – and “nearly half of which are entirely new [intellectual property]”."

I love how even after the Horizon gameplay reveal showed graphics on par with the initial reveal trailer, people are continuing the CG narrative.

Even Alex tried to dismiss the trailer because he said it was using hero lighting and hero character models. Well, GG is literally using hero lighting on Aloy's character model which looks on par with what they showed in the trailer.

I don't mind Alex, but his bias really needs to be checked more. I notice now he's not doing as many solo videoes. I think John kind of knows some of the blanket assumptions he sometimes has on things.

Will Sony ever reach the greatness that was Adam Boyes, Shu, Andrew House, Jack Tretton, Nick Sutner, John Drake....the list goes on and on?

Personalities delivering strong messaging to the fans.

Maybe?

This new Sony is deffo riding the coat tales of a successful ps4 era Sony but there continues to be great games so I ain't complaining. I just ain't a big Jim fan.

Sony's messaging has definitely been really bad this gen so far. Seems like sony is arrogant still and coasting off ps4's success mainly and sony fans encourage it lol.

Jim Ryan stinks as a public speaker. They should really find someone in their employ that they can consistently put in front of a camera who is good at dealing with the media. Tretton was real good.

I got Deathloop and Kena both preordered and I'm doing those on PC. What other exclusives have they given us dates for, for the fall/holidays? I really hope they get Horizon out the door cause that'd be an amazing way to finish out the year

They are killing it on all fronts by basically all metrics, nobody is making it better than them:

They are making way more money than other console makers to the point they are breaking gaming history records. PS5 is the best selling console in gaming history on its lifecycle point and new shipments get sold out in a few minutes worldwide. PS4 is only 2.5 million away from the same at its lifecycle point, but it sold over 1500 million games and it's the console that sold more games in gaming history. They are the company who makes more money with game subscriptions. They break gaming history records in social media. Their first party games sell better than ever, their exclusives dominated the GOTY awards for the last decade.

It would be impossible to perform it this way with a bad messaging or a bad product.

Jim Ryan stinks as a public speaker. They should really find someone in their employ that they can consistently put in front of a camera who is good at dealing with the media. Tretton was real good.
They are company executives, not TV hosts or politicians. Their job has nothing to do with appearing in front of a camera.

Tretton was the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America from the release of PS3 until aprox. a year before the PS4 release. The worst period for the PlayStation brand on all its history not only as image, but also in numbers. Specially in his region they lost a ton of market share against the competition. So Tretton was an awful CEO and it was a good idea to replace him with someone else.

They promoted Jim Ryan to global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment because always did a great job and achieved top numbers in Europe. Now as global CEO PlayStation is breaking gaming history records in basically all fronts, by many metrics. Jim does a great job as CEO, and that's what matters, what is important. If some random guy on a gaming forum doesn't like something he said (or some lies invented by some fanboys and gaming media put in his mouth but he never said) doesn't matter.

The new management just isn't as good as the old management.
The new management is doing a better job than the previous management and are breaking many gaming history records. Looking at the key metrics (game division revenue, consoles sold, games sold for their consoles, GOTY awards won by their exclusives) nobody in the gaming industry ever made a better job handling a console manufacturer than them.

I love PlayStation. Always have done, always will do. Screw Xbox. When I see PlayStation I say "yes". When I see Xbox I say "No". That is all.

Their messaging has been fine. It's the forum fanboys everywhere that keep attacking everything they do, and certain publishing companies..

I wish I had a dollar everytime I read the words arrogant Sony. The only time they get positive press is when they release a big game.

Sony have been pretty average to poor since E3 2018. They just kind of took their foot off the accelerator and fizzled out. Meanwhile XBOX have massively ramped up everything and definitely control the mind share right now.

Sony is letting their games do the talking, and it's obviously working out very well. So well you could be excused for saying it is objectively good.

Two months ago I would have said the opposite. But then E3 came and went, and in its wake something was obvious. The only reason Sony's messaging seemed crappy was that I was hearing Phil says this, MS says that, best value in gaming, yada yada yada, pretty much every single day that I checked gaming news. All that fun sounding hype made me want to hear Sony news. But then E3 came, and with it the realization that all that hype was, by and large, just noise. At the end of the 2021, in terms of BIG next gen Xbox only games, MS will have launched a Forza and Halo, the latter of which we have seen very little of considering it was supposed to have launched in 2020. Starfield is at best a late 2022 game that they still aren't ready to show off, and Elder Scrolls is probably 5-6 years away at this pace. I am not closer to buying an X or S than I was 4 months ago, because there just isn't anything I am desperate to play in the next year.

So yeah, I'm happy they are letting the games do the talking right now. And once MS starts doing the same, I'll be ready to read the reviews and consider if I want a S or X.
