Finally got my PS5 and started playing Demon’s Souls Remake…they butchered it

They completely destroyed the Soundtrack, I was in shock yesterday when battling the Phalanx and only after beating the boss, I realized something was missing. Where the fuck was the actual boss music? I immediately searched for it on the internet if there was a bug or something, just to learn in a YouTube video that they remade some of the most iconic tracks from the original, changed them beyond recognition.

They literally sucked every bit of soul out of the original music (pun intended) only to present an empty husk, that sounds forcefully “epic” and “loud” yet completely misses the atmosphere of the original. It sounds tailor-made for people without any taste nor sensibility for something special and unique. Dare I say it? It sounds like it was composed by a soulless, empty suit like Jim Ryan.

Example one.

Original Phalanx:

Does it sound like typical boss music? Nope! Here the music sounds degenerated, depressing, kinda slow and yet engaging…just like the enemy you are encountering, Coincidence?

Remade Phalanx:

Epic chorus, very loud, stupid inclusion of the Hans Zimmer trumpet because…remember that epic Christopher Nolan movie? It was so EPIC. Completely forgettable.

Example two.

Original Tower Knight:

Who is laughing here? Who dares to mock me like that? Could it be? Oh right, it’s the 100 feet tall knight towering over me, smashing me into the next wall with his giant shield, while his cowardly hidden cross-bow friends shoot me to death. These bastards had a good laugh, but next time…who laughs last, laughs best!

Remade Tower Knight:

What the fuck. Is this a God of War game? What’s up with that bland chorus again? Oh, I forgot…it sounds epic. It surly must be written somewhere in the official CliffsNotes of “how to…compose an epic soundtrack”. Bland, boring, forgettable. Dismissed.

The rest of the Remake is very well done, enjoying it greatly but the music man…I can’t get over it…

This entire OP makes me think of those guest judges in the Japanese version of Iron Chef who are like "You've masterfully captured the spirit and essence of a mother feeding her child, the warmth and sense of belonging inherent in a familial relationship with every swirl around the tongue. It's simply divine!" and the key ingredient was like duck taint.

I beat original on PS3 16+ times. I could speed run the game.

The Remake is better. I have no idea what you're going on about.
He’s talking about the changes to the soundtrack.

OP, I’m not going to buy DeS remake because I got the platinum on the original and still have Sekiro to play before Elden Ring - I wasn’t aware that they had changed the soundtrack and I have to say I agree that the original didn’t need changing.

Yeah it's amazing. That's what I'm confused about. But people will always find a way.

That’s going to be subjective, as the original is held in high regard. I’m sure you can appreciate that as someone who completed it 16+ times. As do I, as I own the soundtrack CD.

Your complaining about trash music of the original being made Into more mainstream trash OP. I’m sorry, but DeS does a lot right, ALOT, but it’s music is not a high mark.

Yeah you're ridiculous. I still have the original Demon's Soul, the music were good but the new tracks are sooo much better in every way that i don't get how you can complain, beside the fact that yes, they changed it for the better.

And that title "they butchered it" ? Did i miss the /s ?

imagine buying a PS5 which a lot of people can't find and the first thing you do is logging on gaf to complain about music

anyway i like both and the new ost feels more epic but it would've been nice if they offered the option to switch to old ost in the remake

I didn't like any of the changes I still play the PS3 version and recommend anyone to do the same if at all possible the remake is filled with nonsense changes

If this game wasn't a 'flagship' of the console "warz" it would have been torn apart

i agree. not as good as the original. cheap remake.

it has me worried for any future Bloodborne remake. sony don't give a fuck and just want to make more $ if the remake was done by FS themselves then it might be worth it. i think i'll be better just sticking to the PS4 version.

On another note, whenever it comes to soundtracks, developers seriously need to let there be a toggle in any remake to use the original score. Same issue with the new score in the Halo: MCC games. I'd love to play using the new visuals and the old score.

The remake looks and sounds great.
Though I think compared to the original they made it look and sound more generic. It lost some of the unique style which characterizes FROM games, and they went with a more "classic" Epic fantasy vibe.

But the visuals are still really good and when added to the 60fps gameplay I'd still rather play the remake than the original

Sounds like something from current era OSTs, I complained about music in games, even here, constantly. However I have not played more than 10 minutes of OG game and zero minutes of remake.

Jesus fucking CHRIST gamers will complain about anything.
OK... but I remember the first time I ever experienced Chrono Trigger, you know? If anyone decided to change the music in that to literally anything else, I feel like it would really impact how the game feels honestly.

99.9% of the time I would agree but music means a lot to a lot of people. It's central to the experience!

I do remember the Phlananx music kingkaiser kingkaiser . I remember trying to figure out how to kill a shielded blob of slime. I remember being scared and hearing the sad music. I get it, man.

Just wait 3 or 4 more years and Sony will re-remake it with a Toggle for the original soundtrack... For $70

I never liked remasters that lose the original game's feel.

While the remaster was better technically in every respect and the new audio was still well done, a lot of what was changed was done without keeping the feel of the original and that's something I hate to see. The music could have been remastered without changing the feel of the original music as could the various areas and creatures/bosses.

Again, technically the new remaster is better, nobody would even argue that, but a lot of the original game's feel was lost in the remaster. There is a definite argument to be made that one could still prefer the original version.

I can't understand the message in the screenshot. The only wall I see is of non-native level English.

This.
I've always felt that Bluepoints remaster goes against Fromsoftwares "Less is more" kind of aesthetic.
Technical limitations come into it too I suppose, but I like the "Dream-like" art direction as opposed to Bluepoints seemingly "More is more" bloat.
But hey, that's me.

But I think we can all see how medieval architecture was replaced with neo-gothic nonsense because epic.

The remake is a technical marvel and there’s so much to like, but the music and overall reworked architecture shows that some of the original tone was lost. I bet those were decisions made by suits.
