If anyone is trying to decide what external storage to use for their next gen consoles, I highly recommend spending about $100 on a simple 5TB mechanical hard drive.

Been using it for months and it’s insane having all that space available and being able to swap out next gen games when needed. Also helps with such a large collection of Gamepass games.

Was considering an SSD if some sort, but so glad I went this way.

Side note; on Xbox, Quick Resume works on games installed to the external hard drive perfectly (as it still uses the internal drive for saving the state of the game).

Almost filled my 2tb+5tb on ps4.

Once I get a ps5, I will not use mechanical anymore.

Yup, I have a cheap 3TB external plus the 1TB expansion card. Works perfectly.

I still think it's weird how loading PS4 games on PS5 is faster from an external SSD than from the internal SSD.

I had a 4tb mechanical back when PS4 started supporting external storage , that same drive ,I used for PS4 pro ,Xbox one x and now series x , still going strong best investment ever made
The next gen 1tb storage is criminal it should be 2tb minimum

I use an 8tb external for "Durango" Series games and Xbox One games then a Storage card for my Series games so I can just plug into my Series X or S and just play.
Super convenient.

Just like phones we should have options for console internal storage maybe a regular 1 tb/2tb and 4tb options for the people who want it
On ps5 blackops and mw with all their add-ons is enough to fill like close to 500 gb of the 650 given space which is borderline insane

You are absolutely correct in your observation. In the past few weeks, I’ve bought four of them at Best Buy: one for my Plex server, one as a Plex backup, and two for the Xbox Series X. I have 11tb total on the Xbox with a little less than 3 now remaining. It’s just so neat to not have to worry about space right now, especially with Game Pass Ultimate being a thing.

I went from a 3TB external HDD to a 1TB external SSD for my PS5 and I don't regret it one bit. The loading times even on BC PS4 games are a game changer. I'll never go back.

I personally never understand download hoarding. When I'm done with a game I'm done for a while, if I ever replay anything its normally a year after minimum

Was dusting my consoles today and noticed my 5TB coated in dust bunnies trapped in the cable. Has anyone tried attaching it to the back of the Series X?
I was thinking using some sorta bent wire to hang off the back and keep everything nice and tidy. Tape just seems so…. ya know.
