Who are the most uninteresting and bland characters in video games?

you could say that out of humans in the real world. No different than a future version of GPT with limited data. Many even seem to take most of what they see as pure nonsense, and don't see the relevant deep meaning in many works of art and how they reflect the world and even the very story of their real world lives.

Pointless and endless debate like speaking to a bunch of rocks.

I disagree with you.

Nah lol. I loved Halo all the way to Reach. But he’s no Kratos to me
But do you know the Chief's backstory? For someone who "loved" halo up until Reach you dismiss the Master Chief as a character so casually. It's fine if you like Kratos more, but the statement, "I loved Halo all the way to Reach," and "haha Master Chief is uninteresting" are at odds with each other.

Kidnapped as a child and replaced with a clone, so the parents don't realize; and then put through a series of secret human experiments with a bunch of other kids who were also kidnapped, most of which don't survive. The remaining survivors become Spartan super soldiers despite only being in their early teens, with a bond closer than family when humanity was about to be completely eradicated by the Covenant. Then trained up military style and paired with Mjolnir armor to run numerous operations, not just John, completing heroic act after heroic act, helping to keep a part of humanity alive and safe. Many Spartans also died, but this fact is kept secret from the public to prevent discouragement and loss of morale. Thus, the mantra, "Spartans Never Die" is born. And that only gets you to the beginning Halo Combat Evolved. If the Chief doesn't show his emotions it's because Spartans don't show their emotions.

John is intriguing and mysterious as a character because despite Spartan training it's clear all the Spartans have feelings. Their childhood was stolen from them and yet they serve humanity with complete selflessness. I just find it a little more interesting than grrr I'm angry now i will exact revenge on the universe grrrr, because I'm a god grrr. So deep.

Even though I mostly play JRPGs - I agree that the characters are just cut and pasted in a lot of cases.

It's like seeing Tokusatsu (power ranger) stuff. Leader is the typical hot-blooded Alpha boy. Then there's cold, distant rebel guy type. Then there's hot girl. Then there's fat dude who's easy going. Lastly a genius kid. Almost always.

Most of the time, when I'm done playing... I entirely forget what had happened, their names and all - even though I was pretty engrossed in the game and enjoyed it.
Perhaps it's my poor long term memory and all.... but if it was more interesting, perhaps I would have remembered more of them.

Like my favorite RPG of all time, Ys series. Although I played every single entries and finished multiple times - I can only think of select few characters. Adol, Dogi, Feena, Leah, Lilia from the originals Chester, Elena .... Laxia (because her name reminded me of laxative) and Dana. Even though I just finished Monstrum Knox, just a few weeks back - I totally forgot their names. (I do remember cow girl, eagle guy, cat girl, creepy boy, a doll) Nobody from Ys 4, 5, 6, 7 too.

Let's see:
Princess Peach (Link and Mario are more emotive and expressive in their more recent outings so I give them a pass, especially link)
Lara Craft from the new tomb raider games
Aiden Pierce (You all know why, watch dogs could've been a GOATED game)
Lightning from FF13
Teenage Riku from KH (let's say from kh2 and onwards)

I think Lightning gets more interesting as the trilogy goes on, to be fair. I like the concept of a mortal turned into a basically all seeing Goddess tasked with the rapture. Only problem is they made her so aloof in the original game that by the third when she's supposed to be devoid of all humanity she's actually the most emotive and it's a non-Uncharted variation of ludonarrative dissonance.

Riku, I totally agree. His character arc probably got resolved too quickly if they planned on using him for as long as they did. Another sign to me that KH (while surprisingly good considering) has just been Nomura making shit up as he goes along and making it make sense afterwards. Very JJ Abrams style of writing.

Almost every single character in Days Gone.
Boozer was the least boring of the lot. The two lesbians were the absolute worst, they had the personality of a Disney animatronic from the 60s.
Deacon is interesting only because he is a shitty, aimlessly-written and frantically-performed character that the studio probably didn't know what to do with.

Still a great game.

Doom Guy?
B.J Blaskowitz (spelling?)
Nathan Hale
Joseph Capelli
Samus Aran in the Prime Games
Turok
Adam Jensen
Amanda Ripley
Corvo Attano
Emily Kaldwin
The protagonist in elder scrolls and fallout games

Not all of them male or bald.
Did you just pick a bunch of random names from a phone book?

I'm surprised too few name characters from the Gears of War franchise. Those are basically useless gun totting characters but for Dom and Baird who has some brains. You don't care about their few lines that would give them a background, and a bunch will die with the player not even caring about. You can litteraly call them by cute nicknames like "the sad one", "the angry one", "the one that is destined to die because of his name", "the smart girl" etc. The bestiary of the franchise is amazing but its characters are amongst the most boring i ever played/seen.

Locke from Halo 5.

I see a lot of people online say that 2B from Nier Automata is this, aside from her design, and that A2 is better. But I am go more for the "suffer in silence" stoic types because there is usually hints that they want to act out of that character or that one moment comes when they finally do break and react to something.

I'm more interested in those characters than I am characters that I already far out there with their mouths and emotions like A2 and Kaine.

Whoever said 2B never completed the game thoroughly.

I can't remeber anymore, but is his backstory even elaborated in the games? Or is this in Novels?

Owen from LOU2.

I don't think I've ever come across a more boring character, deliberately attached to the most boring section of a videogame to make it even more boring.

Well your comparing Master Chiefs back story to Kratos’s “personality”.
And your obviously biased lol.

Ethan Winters, worst character in universe, I am glad about the end of VILLAGE.

Capcom please make another resident Evil in a normal fashion, playing currently Revelations 2 in co-op and it's a great fun.
Is say RE8 is more classic Resident evil than Revelations 2 Coop.

Your right about Ethan though

The old god of wars are such over the top wannabe epic tryhard button mashing bs with a screaming one note depthless ass Kratos. play 10 minutes of one of them and you've experienced all of them.
Interesting how this criticism also works for the new game

Without putting all of them in a basket - most Ubi-Soft main characters are some of the most boring drivel ever.

In their entire AC series they have one good protagonist in Ezio. After that - they are all pretty boring. Maybe I can vouch for Bayek from Origins. All their Far Cry characters are lame and lets not talk about the Watch Dogs ones...

great design, but bland and generic writing. such a shame.

EO4owU8XkAADlP1.jpg

hopefully the writer can turn things around for Endwalker.

pretty much every character from every first person shooter. also most characters from gears of war. i cant stand all that cringy shit designed for teenagers and i actually played it whilst i was one myself but still found it annoying.

This is tremendous. LOL.
Not really. He only had one weapon in the other games also. Adding element effects to his Chains does not in fact mean it's a whole new weapon. I'm fine with him using an Axe, but it should have been a bigger one like the one Rock and Astaroth used in Soul Calibur games.

Nope, they were completely different weapons that even had different moves and combos. Even not counting those, he also used spears, bows, gauntlets, normal swords, etc.
