Oculus Quest 2 has sold 4 million units. Also they're being recalled.

Ouclus is issuing a recall on the foam facial interface thingy in their Quest headsets because a small number of people are having allergic reactions to it. This is not as huge a deal as it probably sounds as the facial foam is removable, there are already numerous replacements and covers available, and the issue only impacts a small number of people. They are offering Silicone covers as a make good to anyone who doesn't want a replacement.

But this also forced their hand to reveal actual sales numbers for the first time. Oculus has always been tight lipped about the exact number of units sold, and while we have seen them grow to an absolutely dominant market share on the PC side, we've had no real insight into the total sales until now.

4 million units is a lot for a product that launched 8 months ago. It took PSVR 3 years to sell that amount.

Nice, just ordered my replacement. The foam one often made my face uncomfortable and red, so this is probably meant for me. :)

I already purchased a third party silicon cover but ordered the replacement as well.
Definitely something that should have come standard to begin with.

Great sales figures, they earned it, it was the unit that finally got me into VR.

Have they fixed the annoying wireless stutter that came with an update this summer? Heard it affected both airlink and vrdesk

It really didn’t bother me much but I still purchased the VRcover because of the increase of FOV

Someone posted some sales figure graph in a VR thread not long ago and it looks like it was very close to right.

What is that thread title lol. Clickbait much. They're not recalling any headsets.

But it's nice that they're giving out free VRCovers, got mine a while back (this has been a thing for months, it's not news). I never had any issues with the original foam one, but the VRCover is nicer, and why turn down free stuff.

Why did you purchase one when Facebook are giving them out for free? You just need to claim it on their site.

The thing they're giving out for free is the silicone cover, I think, not the replacement facial interface with the faux leather pad. Which I also purchased the day I ordered my headset (but didn't recieve for 6 weeks because they had their own recall die to leaky dyes)

How does this compare to psvr? I think it took 3 years for 5 million and was the best selling headset ever. Quest 2 did nearly that in what 8 months?

I got the faux leather one (two different sizes): https://us.vrcover.com/products/facial-interface-foam-replacement-set-for-oculus™-quest-2-standard-edition

Maybe they've downgraded to a cheaper one now, but this is the one they were giving out a while back.

Because I didn’t buy a silicone one I got a foam pad for comfort https://amzn.to/3i81cR3

Clearly not, as you would have wasted money on something you get for free
Clearly yes because even withtout the allergy thing, the foam inside the oculus devices is utter shit, i have an oculus rift and a quest and i bought a cover from that site for both after the first usage.

Yeah I have one of those but I paid for it.

I think the issue with the standard one is probably not a reaction to the thing itself but it soaks up dander and shit so if you have a mild allergy to your pets or whatever it can build up. I always found that kind of foam gross and non hygienic so I ordered the other one right away.

Off the top of my head, from 72Hz to 90Hz, then 120Hz, airlink (wireless untethered), pass through, place your couch in VR, hand tracking, USB-C audio..

airlink and 120Hz alone are amazing game experience changers
Airlink is like playing pc stuff but without the need of connecting a cable?

Yeah, via wifi. I had such a good experience playing half life alyx on it when I went wireless, the cable used to always get in the way. I had virtual desktop app before the official update, but oculus now officially supporting it makes it a lot less of an hassle to run. I can’t go back to wired, I have a useless USB-C cable now..
