How did video games shaped your life?

It made me quit mobile gaming.

I was a long time mobile gamer. College life was kinda hard, and my phone was my distraction between classes. Used to play mobile games alot, to a point, where it was harmful for my mental. I was getting restless, checking my phone constantly, and spending 20$-40$ a week on mobile games. I was in consistent depression. I kinda hated my life back then.

The lockdown was horrible. I managed to spend up to $1k on my mobile games. Until I got fed up with one of the updates from the game. Sold my account, and bough My pc gaming, X1.

Before that, I had a pc. I moved from the house, and bought a laptop. That is when my mobile gaming addiction started. Due to unfortunate Incident in the family, I quit playing on my latop, which made gaming on phone alot worst.

I bought a ps4 for my brother. Played a few times. But not enough to defeat my mobile gaming addiction.

Then this happened.

Youtube and reddit was going for it. The dim light of my OG xbox/PC game time, kicked in. Sold my mobile game account, bought x1s and PC gaming. Fast forward February. My little brother was looking for PS5. I got him one, and took my PS4 from him.

Bought tons of sony exclusive and enjoyed them.
Believe it or not, Playstation exclusive is my 1st party games, which I bought and played alot. Only Xbox game which I played few times is forza4. Halo was ok, but not my style. Sea of thieves lost me. I used my gamepass for 3rd party games. Played alot of good 3rd party games from it.

I went back to my old mobile game. Saw the game and packages, and ran away. I was stupid to play a game, which had $29.99, $49.99, $99.99 as game packages. Everything was too p2w.

I am glad video games saved me from that fate. If my interest in video games havent been awoken again, I would have been a mobile gamer, and wasting my life through depression. Now I am more happy. I love soccer now. I dont waste my time on reddit or twitter. My health is in good condition. Video games, truly makes you happy.

it's okay to space these threads out more throughout the week OP

I'm glad you were able to kick that mobile gaming spending addiction though

I have a hot stepsister that I really want to bang. Trails in the Sky taught me that the key ice-breaker moment is when she “accidentally” sees me naked and realizes she wants a piece of this ding-dong. So to that end I have been plotting some ways to expose myself and see how she reacts

OP you are not alone sadly, my old job was centered around this whole problem, hundreds of people who fell for addictions because they had a hard time in their life or not having a hobby etc...

Mobile gaming / lootboxes / pay to win tactics will do continue to cause harm and problem, even if the majority of users won't have an excessive spending habit, there's still many that got their life ruined unfortunately.

I'm glad you found a solution that works well for you, it's a hard battle whatever the addiction is, kudos to you.

OP you sold your mobile account? How does that even work?

Edit:

Ok on a more serious note, I understand your struggle and appreciate your honesty OP.

For me I guess I realised I was playing too much around 2007-2010. I had just graduated from uni and got a crappy job. I hated being sat in front of a PC all day but then in the evening I would just just sit in front of the TV to play games. This was the heyday of SF4 and VF5 on consoles.

I did this for a couple of years or so until I had enough. I quit my job and went back to uni. I think this made a big difference.

Games for me are not the cause, but more a symptom. If I am bored Ill play more. So I think its healthy to play the games you like and be obsessed with some games like Dark Souls for a while, you know, some games kind of take over your life, and then step away from the TV for while until the next DS comes out or whatever.

Maybe read a book sometimes as well lol.

Met a ton of very close friends, friends who I still interact with to this very day, saved me from boredom (depending on if I wasn't reading something anyway, had no neighborhood kids to play with and there was literally nothing to do outside) and also kept my mind off of things when I was either depressed or angry as all hell.

When I got old enough for playing sports my buddy and I would play Madden 96 on his SNES. After playing a couple games we would simulate the rest of the season and go outside and throw a football around/play basketball. (On the SNES it took about a half hour to simulate a season) It literally got us out of the house to play sports haha. It's how I developed my hybrid game/sports mentality. I don't actually play sports video games anymore, but I still have that mentality!

They have certain sites, and people buy them. It works like ebay. These accounts sell for $3k. Mine was $500, and small ones for around 500$ over the time from ebay.

I read books, and diversify my times now days.

kingfey kingfey is creating threads like a hydra. One thread gets locked and 2 more pop up in it's place immediately.
I asked for mods to do that. Some were already there, and others caused some kinda of un intention war. Guess i need to be more careful.

I want to be on grounded mode, but its too divided here. Its hard to balance them out, especially when the other party is too tight lips. I looked for any Sony news, sadly no luck.

My father bought me video games then he loathed them. But I think in the long run it worked out because games help rule my interest in technology.

Then I invented the internet. I am Al Gore.

I agree with this part. My dad hates me playing video games.
That generation (baby boomer) just thinks it is a waste of time. But he reads a lot of books that are for just pleasure. And I find that just as "time wasting" as gaming. What I choose for my entertainment doesn't have to be what you choose. I would say reading might be more intellectually engaging, but if you are doing either for entertainment who cares.
