[DF] Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut PS5 Upgrades Tested

I haven´t played this game so will get the PS5 version but if i had the PS4 version i would only buy the DLC. The PS5 upgrade for $10 is lacking. They should have made the LOD, distance view and other stuff bit better at least. 1800p CB to 4k CB? same 60fps. The haptic feedback ok.

Don’t own the game, so won’t be purchasing it. But basically this is the free upgrade for PS4 with slight improvements and couple feature most probably won’t use.

Doesn’t effect me but it does seem a crap deal. They should have just bundled the new features into the DLC.

Might as well had just set up a gofundme asking for free money. Only thing they should be charging for is the expansion.

Are people really complaining about a $10 dollar dlc? Am I missing something? There’s an entire new area and story content and people are mad? At what exactly?
I mean if the dlc is on the disc it’s not that bad. But it’s more the point of re releasing it for ps5, yet not really improving the graphics significantly.

For those who own the ps4 version there’s not much point, but if you want to just own the best version it’s a shitty upgrade.

-Leyends mode
-60 fps update
-Enemy lock-on and new control scheme
-New island (15 hours of game)
-Japanese lip sync
-Better looking cutscenes
-Better resolution

I cant comprehend how people complain about SP wanting money when they have been delivering with the game since minute 0.

Shut *** **** up and let employees get paid for their work when they deserve it.

They seriously couldnt do native 4k 60 fps?

They probably just changed the CB target resolution and did nothing more to the resolution.
And if I understood it right, that "performance mode" reduces the quality of some effects, as if it was needed to achieve the desired performance?

It's a rip off for how little was improved but I'm still going to buy the upgrade so more fool me I guess.
Yeah that’s me too. It sucks but there is no alternative. And when I can use the saves from the original PS4 release I can jump back in and possibly go to the new island right away. How much of the main story has to be cleared to unlock it?

Imagine people wanting directors cut versions of movie to be free just because they bought the original, imagine wanting 4K movie remasters to be free just because you bought the 1080p version.

This whole chase to the bottom that some people want is clown shoes. Stop spending your money on bullshit.

Sorry for this stupid question -

I beat the base game on PS4 then sold my PS4 to upgrade for a PS5, my question is if I want to play the DLC only on PS5, I have to complete the base game again?

After chapter 2 you can visit Iki Island if you're doing a new play through. New game plus you can go straight to Iki island I think.

Same boat as me. Download the save files from the cloud and then boot up the ps5 game and it'll have transfer save files from ps4 then you're good to go.

thanks - do you know if PS plus users will have their ps4 saves automatically uploaded to cloud?
at work now and couldn't check....

Nah, all of this concern is disingenuous and bullshit lol.

This game got a multiplayer expansion for free, a PS5 60FPS update for free, and another free multiplayer expansion coming this September. And, you guys wanna act like they're ripping us off cause they decided to charge us one time.

The fact DOOM Eternal gets thrown around here as a comparison is evidence of bad faith in regards to the concern with pricing. That game extracts way more money from consumers.
This should be up on the OP.

Or ar the very least be understood by many people who complain over this.

Many forget Sucker Punch came out with a fuckton of goodies since launch.

Did any of you expect this game had a fleshed out Multiplayer mode coming months after launch?

Or were many of you were caught by surprise, got excited, and pissed your pants by how in-depth the MP was for a game that you sure as hell didnt expect a MP element in it?

They gave more than they should have, and now its shamed upon to support them? Odd how the community forgets any good to turn on developers so quickly.

maybe not no. you have to manually upload every save file if you want to make sure, there is an auto upload option, but that shit simply doesn't work right half the time.

so if you didn't turn that on it won't be there. and if you had it on there's still a chance it's not there

thanks! sigh, I don't remember ever enabling the upload option on my ps4.
I didnt expect GOT to have a DLC thats why I didnt backup my save when I sold my ps4.....

I'm 99.9% sure PS saves are automatically uploaded to the cloud unless you go to options and disable auto saves. Every game I've played that has auto saves have been uploaded to the cloud since the launch of the ps4 for me, so that must be automatic because I've never turned it on.

compate the upgrades of Tsushima to upgrades of other games and see that other games get bigger next gen upgrades completely for free.

and Doom also gets new content all the time btw. they add new free cosmetics to the game and update the multiplayer.

it doesn't matter that the PS4 version got free uodates. the fact of the matter is, the PS5 version is barely an uograde at all, but Sony charges 10€ for it anyway.
and the ONLY reason they do that is to keep their also very shitty 10€ price hike for next gen versions/titles. that's the only reason.

The work to redo all the lip syncing in Japanese alone would be worth ten bucks to me. That must have been quite a bit of work. None of this is controversial and people complaining are weird. No one here has any idea how much effort it took to add PS5 features to the code base.

The irony.

Saying you are owed it for free is ridiculous. Every company can do what it feels is fair.

This could have been folded into the DLC package and no one would have said a peep as that would have been a pretty standard cost for an expansion product. The DF video itself suggests that the performance updates are pretty minimal and uninspired so you're literally just paying for the lip-sync. If The loading times are improved regardless of version then I'm happy to just stick with the base content.

Why do people keep saying it’s 10 dollars to upgrade? I can’t upgrade my standard digital version to a ps5 version for 10 dollars can i?

This entire conversation literally has nothing to do with the developers. This is about the publisher setting prices for next gen upgrades.
Okay. So switch the word developer with publisher and it's still the same, no?

Sony allowed a full fledged mp, made the game part of a psn collection for ps5 launch, also allowed you to get a 60fps patch for free.

And this is, correct if I'm wrong $20 expansion with goodies, no? Not just a next gen upgrade? And no one is forced to pay for the expansion, and the game works, as intended, without it?

Soooooooooo where is the fault in this?

I'm sincerely confused. Please tell how Sony is dropping the ball here.

Can't wait to get back into this. I remember just as the pandemic started last year, we got FF7 Remake, TLOU2 and GoT, back to back to back. I was WFH and had the time to binge them all as they came out, and GoT was my favorite of the bunch. What a crazy period for gaming and what a pleasure GoT turned out to be.

  • MP mode is cool. Lots of games launch with both single player and multiplayer and the game is $60. I'm not aware of too many games that come out for $60 and then add a paid multiplayer later. Maybe FFXV and that's it off the top of my head. Most people don't care if you do that. Or if you are just late on making your multiplayer on release date and then delay what was intended to launch with the game, that's fine.
  • 60 fps patch. That's fine. Really the bare minimum of what we expect. PS Pro was getting patches like this for free for several years. Same with resolution increases.
  • $20 expansion. Totally fine. Reviewing well. People prefer the expansion model to microtransactions typically.
  • Charging $10 for minimal upgrades that have typically been a free patch in the past is the only problem people have had. People have been extremely clear about that too. It sets a bad precedent for the future of the "director's cut" branding. It sets a bad precedent for the future of backwards compatibility. The direct competition, and multiple third parties do more than this for free - so people are pointing out they are upset at this one thing.
Hope that clears it up for you.

Even the grass LOD hasn't been improved. They probably could have changed that just by changing a number in the source code.
Thats awful. Are you telling me that the game's foliage draw distance still looks like this?

They didnt even bother offering a native 4k version. How do you take a year making this, charge $10 for the next gen version and cant offer basic enhancements? Even Days Gone had better foliage draw distance in the PC version.

MLB The SHow also had no discernable upgrades unlike NBA 2k and FIFA which completely redid models, added brand new next gen only modes and EA even went ahead and added frostbite hair. All at launch. Meanwhile Sony's first studios get a 6-8 month lead and couldnt anything more than a minor resolution checkerboard increase and some dual sense support. Bare minimum to say the least.

These studios used to be the cream of the crop a year ago. What has changed? Why is their budget so small that they cant afford next gen enhancements like better LODs, better character models, better hair, ray tracing? They are not hurting. They posted record profits for their gaming division.

This is not a good time to be a Sony fan. Even worse than the early PS3 era. At least PS3 era Sony launched some next gen looking games in the first year with Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, and Uncharted looking absolutely stellar and a league ahead of their last gen titles like God Of War 2. If they want to release mostly cross gen games after Ratchet then fine, give us a reason to upgrade. I am pretty convinced that the TLOU remake is basically going to be TLOU2 instead of looking next gen.

Sounds like you're just looking for anything to be mad at Sony over.

It has better textures and they did the lip sync stuff, cutscenes are real time now.
There's haptics and stuff on the controller.
We literally had a list of shit the PS5 version has for over a month, how are people surprised about this?

Dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60fps
DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger resistance
3D audio with stereo headphones (analogue or USB)
Lip sync for Japanese voiceover
Ability to transfer PS4 saved progress to PS5 game

I'm tired of all these people wanting everything to be free. These guys did all this work, and they still wanted the PS5 version for free. Do they work for free?

Most of you have no clue about the amount work that goes into these 'simple' upgrades. If its in the budget of the production of the game then you get upgrades for 'free'. Realistically that cost was included into the original purchase of the game or paid for by microtransactions. If the upgrades were not included in the original budget, you pay for it. I get it everybody wants everything for free, but in reality everything cost.

I think the argument is that you should be able to upgrade the original ps4 version to the ps5 version without having to fork out for the extra island etc.. There is no 10 dollar ps4 to ps5 vanilla upgrade
