Mortal Shell: The Virtuous Cycle DLC - Axatana Weapon, Hadern Shell, & Roguelite Mode Gameplay

Hey guys, the DLC is here, and it is free for all platforms first 5 days. Here's some info:

- full install size for the game now with all DLC on Steam is 14.94 GB
- The DLC introduces a new weapon called Axatana. It's a dual sword which combines into an Axe. Basically each form has a weapon ability. Most broken weapon in the game atm. Does insane damage, and also is a bit bugged out.
- If you use the Axe weapon ability really close to an enemy and get on top of them you can infinitely smash them, doing insane damage, and gaining resolve back.
- I was able to one shot Enslaved Grisha, and Imrod with this, and most tough enemies
- New Shell is called the Hadern Shell. It allows you to use any 1 of the other shells abilities. Makes this shell OP. For example, Tiel's infinite running with Eredrim's stagger hits, along with Solomon's increased resolve gain. Yea....
- New Hadern boss with Axatana weapon. Two phase, two life bars. First phase katanas, second Axe. He is more deadly with the axe and faster lmao.
- Both Hadern and the new Reverie Roguelite modes are found in Fallgrim tower (HUB second floor)
- You have to beat the new Hadern to get the new weapon and shell, which then can be used for the rest of the game
- Roguelite mode places you in random spots with a chose shell and weapon. You get new abilities for the shell as you conquer checkpoint pillar. You can't heal in this mode. Only way to heal is to hit checkpoint pillars.
- These pillars also give new buffs such as increased damage, or bigger hp pool etc.
- obviously if you die in this mode you get sent back to the tower and have to start over again.

if there's anything more I'll add it here. Cheers

Virtuous Cycle Gameplay:

UPDATE: Ok if people are planning to use this weapon, you have to be wary of this. When using the Axe weapon ability, sometimes you can glitch the game. When you land you won't be able to attack. Or even roll. And the camera will screw up. It happened to me on Tarsus and Crucix. I'm not sure what the cause is but just a friendly reminder.

Not sure I will like this new weapon, as I'm fan of mid-slower weapon. Actually, the first basic weapon is my favorite so far. Simple animations, fair range and speed and rather quick resolve animation. To be completelly honest I was expecting a new area, but its all good.
But can't wait to fight this boss.

My take on this DLC:
-Hadern boss is not difficult, but it sounds kinda cheap with the amount of times he can dash and has a good amount of invulnerability frames
-Hadern shell is kinda way too strong lmao
-The new weapon second form also sound broken because of the damage and speed
- The Roguelite mode is a cool thing to add, my only complain is the overabundant spam of frogs. Now it has 2 types, the stationary and the moving one which is almost impossible to kill and will be garanted to hit you(too me sounded kinda a cheap way to kill you)

Frankly I don't really like what they did with archers on the Vicious mode. They now can fire 2 or 3 arrows in a row without even making animations. Felt like an another way to knock cheap deaths by spamming hundreds of ranged guys. I find an area with 7 at the same time.

I can’t find Hadern for some reason, he’s simply not upstairs by the other weapons!

Might be because I haven’t played the PS5 version so I’m only at the start of the game. I haven’t unlocked any weapons and barely any shells.

Is this game similar in quality to Souls or a cheap imitation?

I wouldn't say its a cheap imitation, it is different enough in meaningful ways.

However the overall quality of the Souls games is definitely a step above. If you've not had your fill of the Souls games and you haven't finished all of them then I'd say just play those instead.

It aint no Souls, but it is a better imitation than most.

I’d say its easily worth the price if you’re looking to scratch the Souls-itch. Very impressive game considering the small development team. Looks better than DS3 graphically (except art direction) and has a wierd sense of humor at times *lute drop sound*

I'm actually more concerned about enemies poping right infront of me during the Virtous mode. Hope its a bug.

What's the gameplay purpose of the player/enemy turning to stone all the time?

Or you can be like me and forget this even exist lmao

But seriously, I'm so used to Soul games that I sometimes forget of this mechanic even exists. It can be a diminish thing for veterans, thats for sure.
